Update on the absurd Jets media blackout: a couple of completely meaningless nuggets out of Jets camp like "Stephen Peterman working as the backup center" and "Sheldon Richardson working as a blocking specialist fullback" got tweeted by beat guys or retweeted from fans, which led the Jets to threaten everyone again, which in turn of course itself got reported on.

Robinson is also faster than Tebow, doesn't bring the off-the-field poo poo that Tebow does (which, even though his teammates may dig his leadership, is ultimately a distraction and takes away from the team as a whole), is younger (and therefore has more upside), and is on a cheaper contract than Tebow. And as Rap said, he's already willing to lineup in the backfield/as a wide receiver/as a kick returner in addition to taking snaps at QB which Tebow has shown reluctance to do. I can't imagine a world where I would rather have Tim Tebow on my NFL roster than Denard Robinson.

"Everyone knew the risks!" is the dumbest argument. Guys knew they could tear an ACL or break bones, but players had no idea the effect "getting your bell rung" could have later in life. That is one of the worst, most out of touch things I've read about sports in a while.

The article uses horrible wording and does a bad job of making the point it wants to, but I agree with the theory. Football is already pretty regional and the talent disparity already skewers much more towards the lesser income areas of the country. I do have a question. Did wealthy people ever take up boxing or was it always a poor sport? I was just thinking about how I did not know a single kid who boxed. I was wondering if football was heading the same way.

My issues with this are A: The Army draws a large portion of it's recruits from the middle class. (1) B: the racial language used is just dumb (and wrong, see the first source. The military's issue is with not having enough wealthy people, not being too minority/poor/etc). C: The amount of power and money the NFL has. They can use that to promote the game and to play it safely. That is also ignoring the prestige playing football has. I know but I was just thinking boxing as a major sport which basically went away and everyone found out it was dangerous. Correct me if I am wrong, but most people who go to MMA gyms and stuff aren't actually brawling for real, getting knocked around, concussions and so on, right? I used to go to a gym with MMA training and it mostly looked like grappling, not getting decked in the head for an hour straight.

I'm not too worried about football. Kids will always want to run around and throw a ball and chase each other. They'll change the rules and eventually everything will work itself out. Then we'll look at old highlights and think "poo poo that's what we used to watch!?" Sort of like when I watch highlights from late 80s NHL, which was practically gladiatorial combat at times. There's stuff that you'll see and the commentators are like "clean hit" and now it would be a 30 game suspension.
