Gridiron Thunder is going to be like no other football video game you've ever played. Why? Because the devs understand fun. What's fun about Gridiron Thunder is that the players onscreen will do AMAZING touchdown celebrations. And that seems to be about it.

This is truly my favourite awful Kickstarter in weeks. It has it all.
  • Hilari-bad gameplay video of a game supposedly shipping in two weeks.
  • Unsubstantiated claims of having the notoriously difficult-to-acquire NFL license (including an image of Bill Belicheck, who opts out of every video game)
  • suspiciously high average donation (80 grand from just over 100 backers)
  • OUYA
  • Absolutely no indication of where the money is going
  • Will Perone Senior Evil Scientist Overlord of Doom
and much, much more. Do not miss the video.

Fixed.

The third is Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service. It gets pretty dark.

Anyway, I checked Kickstarter for stuff near me.

SquatchIt! - A Sasquatch caller which is a whistle that lets out an absolutely horrifying noise, specially crafted to match the vocalizations recorded by Bigfoot hunters. Video contains a video shot in a revolving office chair, and multiple instances of the SquatchIt being used. List of things to use it for: Calling Bigfoot, scaring campers, putting your kids to sleep. They even advertise that kids can have fun with it for hours - because that's what I'd want my kids using for hours.

Royale Tees - It's another crappy t-shirt kickstarter, once again with "witty" and "funny" things on them. What makes it for me though is the pitch - she's solved America's economic problems! America's debt is enormous, and that's because of outsourcing. The creator of this kickstarter has the solution though - just make American jobs so the money will stay here! She plans to do this through t-shirts made in America, noting how bad conditions are for workers in sweat shops. Did you know Japanize girls are sold into sex slavery when they can't make shirts anymore? Anyway, she needs $2,500 to start up her own t-shirt making company which does all its work in America. She claims she'll be using the money to buy necessary machinery, a place to house the machinery and workers, and also pay people to sell her shirts. $2,500.

The Balam: Rise of the Bolontiku - Currently unfinished urban fantasy novel. He needs $17,000 so he can hire editors, proofreaders, and other things that I will admit are necessary. He also provides a sample of his writing. I was going to put some choice quotes here, but nearly the entire thing is choice quotes. It is really bad. Also the villains in this are aliens called Croats - which are an actual ethnic group in reality.

Transformers Shorts - This guy made some stop motion Transformers videos a while ago, and he's actually got talent in that area. I've done stop motion before, and it is really hard to get right. The opening video is from 2007, but he goes on to show more recent videos which display definite improvement. While he's good at getting the stop motion to work, he's not very good at voice acting or figuring out how to frame the shot correctly.

The main problem with this guy is what he wants the $20,000 for - an HD camera (fair, although he may get a standard commercial camera instead of one made for stop motion), materials to set up a home studio with proper staging and lighting equipment (fair), and a forum so people can tell him what to make. He thinks that with this collaborative process, where he makes the videos but he lets other people come up with actual ideas, he'll end up producing entire shows on par with Robot Chicken. He expects to make enough money to take care of his family by doing this.

And of course, he claims there are absolutely zero risks.

It's also an enormous scam. See, OUYA is running a promotion where if you kickstart a game and make it a 6-month exclusive for OUYA, they will match whatever funds you pull in. The top grossing game will receive an additional $100k. So it stands to reason that they managed to pledge $75k to their own project (look at the number of backers and the tiers list) in the hopes of scamming OUYA. Of course, OUYA being OUYA, it's doubtful that they'd even pay out the supposed bonuses in the first place, even if they did see through the blatant scam.

In conclusion, I hope they make enough from legitimate backers to offset Kickstarter's cut of the total. :v:

I did, but it's really the manga tie-in with the new GITS anime, since it's not actually written or drawn by Masamune Shirow. Who should be in this list, just avoid the stuff that he started to do once he got his Mac and/or past 2000 or so. Talk about a guy who traded his birthright for a pound of flesh and entered into the "creepy Heinlein" phase of his career.

Berserk is also probably one of the best of this hyper-detailed manga, especially the later volumes when Muira's figures don't look that stuff. Lots of cross-stitching that makes the comic look like it came from a wood block print. And the gory fight scenes are so over the top, with the main character literally cutting through formations of dudes in full plate mail with a single sword swipe, like someone needed to be show what an example of the D&D feat "Cleave" would look like. However, there's some squicky sexual violence thrown in, so word of warning. The only thing I can really say about that is that it's at least equal opportunity.

Professional comics in any culture are often done in teams- if I'm not mistaken, American comics have specific artists working on inking, coloring, lettering, etc.

Webcomic art, however, is almost always done by a single artist, occasionally partnered with a writer.

If I'm not mistaken, Fred stopped inking his comic pages years ago purely due to laziness and simply excused crappy penciled updates as part of his "style".

I sent off a question about that this morning and received a response about it:

quote:

As for Hyperbole and a Half - We are not selling that image (it was not on a shirt) and we did review it to the best of our ability using the four major criteria:
1-Purpose - It's purpose was to entertain, and to inform of the character of the t-shirts for sale on the site. There are no Hyperbole and a half images for sale.
2- Nature - Being it's use as a Meme -It's not being sold.
3- Amount and Sustainability - we are only using a small portion of the actual comic (from what I can find) and since I wasn't actually aware it was based on a comic, I will be finding and citing the original artist. However from what I can see of Tom Forsythe vs Mattel, it falls under fair use.
4 - Effect upon works value - There is no effect on the original works value.

However a vast majority of our kick starter was to be for legal purposes to have an attorney look over every design to verify that we are not erroneous in our research.

We really are trying to keep our shirts free of theft, as I am an artist myself I understand.

Thank you so much for your interest and taking the time to bring the hyperbole and half to my attention as that one I hadn't prior completely researched (it was actually an addition from my 16 year old).

So it looks like it isn't going to be featured on a t-shirt, but what I find most interesting is that most of the money is going towards legal fees, rather than a finished project. You think, since she labels herself an artist, she would understand the importance of original design work, rather than leeching off preexisting art. It might take a bit more effort and time, but the result is product that is more unique and something that can be sold without consulting a lawyer about what falls under fair use.

Tile-based strategy games like The Settlers of Catan provide limitless fun and excitement for you and your friends.
