Are there any good mods that buff the less impressive civs? I want to like Washington but apparently Firaxis is a bunch of godless commies because America is pretty clearly the worst civilization, with the only one giving it any competition being Germany. Any combination of, like, 25% border growth, faster settler production, or double yield for hexes a city is founded on would be so much better for landgrabbing than the almost totally useless UA it has right now.

e: VVV well ideally they should all be equally fun and viable. If I wanted to play some garbage civ I'd download the Beavis and Butthead or Krogan mods.

Is this a weird joke that I don't get? Washington is really powerful with my playstyle of teching up and conquering everything in the late game.

Washington is widely considered to be bottom tier and theyre actually changing it in an upcoming patch.

None of the civs are "bad" but washington is pretty boring and to a degree, outdone by the shoshone.

I think mods have totally ruined my perspective. I won't go back to the base game, just hope the new patch won't make Washington completely bonkers in my future games.

Really loving big maps. No one can conquer the world except Shaka with his giant armies until Washington starts raining bombers on everybody. It's hard to move quickly without planes when everything is so far apart. Even then someone (me) usually gets a science victory, I'm going to try a domination-only Marathon game soon to see what happens.

I bought this game just 10 days ago for full price! Ugh, whatever, I got my money's worth, but I really wish I could have picked up Gold for the same price.

Does anyone know a really fun set up? I played Brazil in a jungle world, and the amount of culture I was getting was absolutely hilarious once I unlocked acoustics. I am considering playing Elizabeth in some islands map, but it doesn't sound as fun as it should be.

I like playing Emperor because I have a higher success rate at getting my favorite wonders. I'm too scared to try Immortal, but my games are close enough in Emperor that I don't usually win until turn 350 or so.

Anyways, does anyone know a really fun religion strategy? I usually go for religious texts and then spend my prophets/missionaries all over my continent to maximize gold from tithe, but I'm curious if there might be better ways of playing a faith-based game.

Frida Call Me

Boy, you gotta carry that weight
Carry that weight a long time
Ways to have fun with faith:

Ghandi on pangaea with +growth founder, +food temples and shrines, swords from plowshares. Send food to your capital all game long (if Delhi is coastal even better!). Try and grab the hanging gardens and then prioritize food tiles above all else. Run minimal specialists until you've grabbed -food and -unhappiness from freedom. If you tech straight to medical labs, Delhi can easily have 60+ people in it by turn 300 on standard.

Byzantines with tithe, religious texts and itinerant preachers. If there's a lot of high population cities, by late-game you'll be making more income from tithe than from your trade routes and city output. Alternatively, you can grab all 3 religious buildings and the reformation belief that gives you tourism from them. Then build a shitload of cities and win a hilariously early cultural victory.

Sandstorm map type with faith from desert tiles and holy warriors can let you crank out 3-5 cho ku nu's the moment they're researched. This will let you conquer your two nearest neighbors unless they're early powerhouses.

Liberty with jesuit education also works well. If you can ICS without getting obliterated by the AI, buying 6-12 copies of a science building with faith will make your science graph climb vertically after you blast off in space.

It's to find CSes, Natural Wonders, and other civs to trade with, all of which are important for early game gold/happiness boosts. I find I usually want three scouting units on a Pangaea, which sometimes is 3 scouts or other times is 2 scouts and my initial warrior.

It doesn't. If you have not hit your max routes, but have no partners in range it won't let you. If its letting you, that means you have at least one city that can trade with another and it probably isn't the city you built it in.

Click on the menu option of "Trade Route Overview" and you can see available trades. Then use the "Rebase" button underneath the trade route button on your caravan or cargo ship and rebase it to the appropriate city. If you have a land route and no sea route it will not let you build a ship and vice versa.

Simcity is a poor example because anyone who preordered it in a box from Amazon got a refund and still owns the loving thing on Origin, so ordering a physical copy from a third party with a better customer service record than EA is probably also a good rule of thumb.

I can't disown it, it's there forever. It makes me want to abandon bf3 and open a new Origin account.

Sometimes you have to play on launch day, though, especially if you're bad with money. A civ5 expansion for example is a safe bet, and Infinite :biotruths: just got spoiled for you if you didn't beat it within 48 hours.

Oh no, I understand the desire to want to play games on release. I don't do it as much as I used to, but I do do it.

But like for BNW alone, you could get 20-25% off BNW before the game was out, if you got a steam key from green man gaming with a promo code, as opposed to 10% on steam. That's what I mean by waiting to find a better deal.

What's the deal with caravans? it seems like once in a while they 'stop' and you need to reallocate them. They're a new BNW feature, right? I just want my caravans to go non-stop, and to be able to reallocate if I feel like it.

Also how long does it take for religious pressure to do anything? if I trade with a city and have +6 religious pressure against them, then what happens?

I use it on BNW and it works fine for me, I've had no problems with it.

Does anyone know of any mods that let you choose music that is not related to your civ? I like some of the music in the game, but some of the civs I don't like much at all (Siam for example does nothing for me). I found a mod that lets you skip tracks if you don't like the song that's playing, but only within the same "album" of music for that civ.

I know I can just turn the music off and play my own, and I have been for the longest time, I just kind of want to play and hear the war themes, and the snippets that play when you create a Great Work of music.

Well, anyone who gets so invested in a video game that they're willing to do what amounts to unpaid development work for it is clearly a pretty devoted fan. That leads into a whole discussion about what draws people deeply into fandoms (for video games and otherwise) and escapist entertainment in general. That's probably a discussion for another thread, but to make a sweeping generalization - and without wanting to sound too judgmental about it - I could imagine that someone who has a hard time getting along with other people, for any number of reasons, might be inclined in that direction.
