This is really weird. Why do the vocals remind me so much of Slough Feg?

I'm following Chip & Ironicus' LP of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance (it's a real word). One of the boss battles had a piece that reminds me of older Dragonforce songs, back when they were half-tolerable. Actually, most of the boss songs in the game are pretty metal so far.

Not specifically metal, but Canada just readjusted regulations governing touring artists. It's going to cost a lot more for a small band to tour there, which will probably mean that your favorite foreign metal band won't be going to Canada ever again, unless they're, like, Slayer. Which sucks.

SUCK A DICK, DUMBSHITS!

quote:

The regulations require that any venue with a primary business other than music but which also books bands or performers must now pay an application fee of $275 per musician and those travelling with the band (tour manager, sound person, guitar tech, etc.) when it applies for a Labour Market Opinion, or LMO, to allow those outside workers to perform and work in their establishment. That’s also in addition to an extra $150 for each approved musician and crew member’s work permit.

Pretty sure it's $450 plus $20-$50 for every band member and you have to apply through Homeland Security at least three months in advance. You can expedite the application for $1200-$1500. However, as far as I know the application fee is a one-time-per-tour thing.

I know a bunch of the small venues around me are classified as "bars" because they have liquor licenses, and I'm sure that's true of small venues across the country. This is going to be a problem.

Man Wintersun really blew it away in Hollywood this Monday. I was disappointed with Fleshgod Apocalypse but the rest of the lineup (Arsis and Starkill) was also good. I'm really starting to enjoy Time I. Jari's stage performance was much better than I expected. That dude must've been raising his arms for half of their set. I'm now proudly sporting a new Wintersun shirt!

I doubt Fleshgod will ever work as a live band given their musical style, unless they get their own sound guy and a massive budget to get some of their symphonic bits performed properly. I'm really enjoying Labyrinth, but I saw them touring Agony twice I think, an both times they were really disappointing. I can't imagine they've got any better really.

Has anyone seen Shining live yet(the jazz one, not the black metal one). They are coming here on tour soon and I'm wondering if they are worth seeing live. I actually like the new album One One One a bit. Its one of the few new albums that I've bothered listening to more than once. Its usually hard to drag me away from my old finnish death.

Also, no one replied earlier....so I'll just post it anyway. Here is my bands new EP...its death metal, and its a free download on bandcamp. The styles in some of the song vary a bit as Inferior, Biopsy, and Echoes were written last year, and mechanical, colony, and poison are new songs written in the last few months.

I saw them on the current tour with Wintersun and they were awesome. The sound at the venue (Irving Plaza) was kind of poor for all the bands - drums way too loud relative to everything else- but ironically that hurt Fleshgod the least since that's pretty much how Agony is mixed too.

They were tight, they were heavy as hell, the symphonic stuff came through enough to make it work, and they had a lady (I'm guessing the same one that's on Labyrinth) singing a lot of parts, even on the Agony material. I expected the bass player's clean vocals to be awful live but those were actually pretty solid too.

This was exactly how Fleshgod's sound was in Hollywood. I could barely hear the guitars and the drums were way too loud in comparison. This must be intentional if their album was mixed like that. The other bands didn't suffer the same fate. I'm not a huge symphonic metal fan though so I'm biased.

Exactly how much scotch does one need to drink to enjoy Gorguts and Wintersun?

I've been enjoying Abominant's sorta-melodeath middle era. It's interesting how different it is from the 80s-influenced European stuff and hardcore-influenced American tendencies.

After falling in love with Nekrogoblikon's STENCH album, I feel like they sorta phoned it in with their newest release, "power." The album is short, it manages to be even goofier than their last album, it's a bit sing-songy and the lyrics don't flow with the narrative as well as their other stuff.

Having a hard time picking a favorite track on it, but I suppose it'd be Bells & Whistles right now. I still like the overall style of their music but this album did not grab me like STENCH did. I don't automatically hate switching between gravelly and clean vocals in the same song, but the way they do it on this album is annoying to me.

My friend is the drummer for two small DFW bands, Urizen and Tarim and Tarim just released their first album. When they were releasing previews for their songs during recording, I really enjoyed the song Immolation but the whole album sounds the same to me. Lots of single note runs with little variation in the guitar fills.
