Athenry posted:You can also save old ladies by stopping the criminal before he acts, but then you look like a crazy person to the public. Or you wait until she gets mugged and look like a vigilante. Its an interesting choice that hopefully won't end up too simple. I think a good way to make it a fun risk/reward mechanic for the player is to make it so there's a really good chance the criminal will actually kill the victim, and because you're right there when the victim might get killed, there's another dice roll that will determine whether or not you'll be seen as an accomplice if a murder takes place, maybe even based on your physical proximity to the event. The risk factor is that you won't know how much time will go by between the start of the crime's commission and the murder itself. You might have 10 seconds between to react, you might have 1 second before it's all over. Either you can avoid the risk entirely by just leaving and letting fate take its course, meaning even though your stats won't be affected you'll still probably feel a bit guilty as a human being even though you know it's just a video game, or you could take a proactive stance and take a very small loss of your community standing by killing/incapacitating the criminal before the crime, or you can wait until the crime starts and depending on how you do, take either a large boost or a large cut from your community rep. Another thing I was wondering about this game: will there be less-lethal weaponry (rubber bullets, pepper spray, tasers)? At some point (probably the first time) I want to do a pure-Batman (Begins) run (no direct killing, but I'd probably allow thugs to fall to their deaths or die in an exploding monorail crash).

That's probably the point of the baton. I like it as a signature weapon for Aiden, it's not normally seen as a cool weapon in fiction but they make it work.

Also they're explicitly not federal facilities. Probably because it's a lot more plausible for a single vigilante to fight a city government than the federal government.

I mean, if some dude broke into a federal facility (cause let's be honest, the feds would be all over a system like CTOS, regardless of its origins) and gunned down 10 contractors, the entire city would go on lockdown until the perpetrator was apprehended. And then they'd tear down the entire system until they determined exactly what the perpetrator had done. http://www.npr.org/blogs/parallels/2013/05/31/187316703/Rio-Goes-High-Tech-With-An-Eye-Toward-Olympics-World-Cup Federal involvement is not necessarily a given. Of course, this operations center in Rio is run by people instead of being completely automated. Anyway, it's the Assassin's Creedification of all Ubisoft games, Aiden will do the equivalent of ripping down wanted posters until he's incognito again.

Chaltab posted:Not as far as I know? Unless they've figured out a way to make XBL, PSN, Nintendo Network, and Steam all work together without any hiccups. On six different vastly different platforms with vastly different specs? (You say still like it should be expected at this point, but I can't think of any AAA title with that feature.) There are games out there that have cross play between their home console and PC (see Shadowrun for XB360, FF14 and Portal 2 for PS3) and we're going to see more of it in the future (War Thunder and Warframe for PS4 will do cross platform multiplayer with PC users). The technology has been there, but I think the console manufacturers policies are more to do with the lack of cross multiplayer games this generation. It helps them fan the console warrior bullshit when they can say "Play the _____ version of this game if you want to actually play multiplayer hurrr hurrr". Sony and Microsoft don't want to have unified multiplayer because it hurts them in a capital sense. If someone was going to buy a game that is available on both consoles and they have the choice between the one your friends play and the one that looks better, with a fully unified multiplayer they would just choose the one that looks/controls better and be done with it (Which is the ideal position for the consumer to be in, but Sony and Microsoft both want to keep you invested in their brand bubble at any cost). For what it's worth, this game is probably going to be the one I get with my PS4. I've been pretty much sold on it since the first E3 showing it had, and I'm really digging the Demon's souls-esque multiplayer. I'm probably going to go on media blackout here so as not to spoil myself on too much of the game before it launches.

I love seeing open world game demonstrations where people walk at normal speed and park their cars properly instead of what every player actually does (constantly jump around like an idiot and leave their car in the middle of the street blocking three lanes of traffic).

I was under the impression that the game was ostensibly about a vigilante anti-hero, but the video made the guy seem like a psycho killer.

What will be the most insane thing you can hack? Maybe you can hack like a power plant or something and cause a catastrophe. Some insane hacks that would be fun to do in game can even be performed today, with bolt cutters. Will Aiden carry bolt cutters?

With the online element I wonder if someone could screw up your goals, like if you were chasing down a criminal you just prevented doing a crime and the other player runs him over, who would be credited for preventing a crime and be penalized for the criminals death.

I think I'll spend my time in this game in other people's games pretending to be an NPC whose "player detection and avoidance" mechanics don't work. Basically I'm going to do my best to act like a dumb AI who always stands and walks right in front of and/or around the player and just won't move out of the loving way and see how long I can last.

Get in front of them in a car and then just stop dead, not allowing them to pass in their car. Reverse and go forward a little every few seconds, to really sell the "broken ai" angle.

This. Also, how much do we know about the multiplayer mechanics? I haven't seen anything in the videos I've watched about how you stop a hack or how finding them works if they initiate a hack from far away and then just run like hell. The basic stuff, like what exactly are the stop hacking triggers? Obviously killing them works, but what else? Does identifying them stop it, or do you have to hack them to stop it? On the other side, how do you keep a hack going? What tools does the victim have to locate you? Does that "he's in this area" circle move with you? Does it just give the other player a starting point so you can flee that area and he's going to have a hell of a time finding you? Or does he get a new waypoint "go here" if you leave that area? I have no idea if we know any of this yet, I'm just really curious as to what mechanics are going to exist and how cat and mouse it has the potential to be. If maybe you'll end up in a chase where you want to keep a good distance between you and your victim but not stray too far. Kinda wonder how much warning you'll get about going out of range. Hopefully you get a couple of warnings and then a short countdown to losing signal or something. Really curious as to what we haven't seen yet.
