The Massive #15 is a stunning comic. I have no idea where all of this is going but Brian Wood just altered the entire tone of the story in the best way. Garry Brown's art (with Jordie Bellaire's coloring) is powerful stuff. There are several instances of character expressions with emotions that just explode off the page. Please tell me there's someone else out there reading this! You are my Massive.

I would be reading it if Dark Horse could figure out digital comics.

I read the first trade. I liked what I've read of it but I'm trade waiting for it.

They seem to have a pretty good handle on it to me. Are they region locked or something?

It had no choice. Their defense grid was smashed. We'd won. Taking out Carr then would make no difference. Skynet had to wipe out his entire existence!

This. I bought a load of The Massive, and it was great. Then I updated the app and they were all gone and the only way I could work out to get them back was to go back in to the store, search for them and re download them again. And sometimes you have to try 3 or 4 times to get stuff to download. At least Marvel Unlimited worked in making their app better, but the Dark Horse one usually manages to infuriate me before I can even read a comic!

TMNT #25 is pretty loving great and has an awesome reveal that I didn't see coming at all. They've solicited the upcoming Micro-Series issue that centers around Hun, even though he's yet to show up at all. Then in the new issue, Casey's drunk dad has a moment of clarity over his son being hospitalized at the hands of the Foot, punches a mirror, yells, "NO MORE!" tears apart his shirt and we see the giant Purple Dragons tattoo on his back.

TMNT has been consistently entertaining since the first issue and feels different enough from the previous incarnations to be exciting as well. Of course the last page of #25 is good for fans of a certain TMNT.

What I am saying is if you have even a passing interest in the ninja turtles you should be reading the IDW series.

Is Mary a demigod or what? Spirit of the Ocean? How did she do that?

It's gotta have something to do with the ocean. I think the best part of the series so far is in #5 with the flashback during the thunderstorm on the oil rig and that beautiful prose about how the ocean still had use for her. There's also her swimming with the megalodon like it ain't no thang. Regardless, I thought that Mary stopping the warheads in #15 sequence was so beautifully executed as to not be a jarring change of tone for the series, which in narrative terms I'd call miraculous. Lovin' this story.

Something like that? It's intentionally unclear, but the story has been leading up to that.

More The Massive

I had gotten the feeling that the story was building towards something like this. If you read the shorts that preceded the launch of the comic, it's heavily featured. I especially like the one about Cal and the oil rig mission.

So I was following up on Nowhere Men #6 (now due Sept. 25!) and I saw this:

https://www.imagecomics.com/comics/releases/nowhere-men-8

They are going to release #6 and #8 on the same day, and then #7 a week later? The comic is weird enough that I could see them do something like that, but given how it fell off the rails I could also see it as a mistake.

Yeah, they probably rescheduled issue 6 & 7 and haven't touched 8 yet because they have no idea when they should even reschedule it to. They'll probably bump out issue 7 and then bump out issue 8 to a week behind 7 until they can get a clearer picture of when 8 will drop.

It's a shame too because I really enjoyed the issues I've read of the series but I wish they could keep on a schedule.

The latest issue of Prophet has a copy of Brandon Graham's script in the back pages. It's mostly reference materials and rough thumbnails, but nonetheless a fascinating look at the process. It's interesting how they don't work with a conventional, written script but share enough common vocabulary as artists to flesh out a basic outline.

IF you're buying from the Top Shelf sale, everyone should have a copy of March. It's an exceptionally well written and interesting true story and Rep Lewis is quite an exceptional person. Well worth a read, especially if you're a history buff.

Yeah. The issue itself was like one giant non sequitur and I kinda gotta read it again but I still like it.

Some day I'll try reading it again but I really couldn't get too far into it. The art wasn't doing anything for me (granted this appeared to improve later in the tome and I did love the art in From Hell and few bits of Bacchus I've seen), the era/region didn't resonate with me at all, and it felt like a much less interesting version of the Maggie and Hopie stories from L&R. Maybe I just didn't get far enough, though; the L&R stories were also pretty bad when they had the sci-fi trappings but in that case I knew to push through until it shifted into the LA 80's stories.

For $8 or whatever it's probably worth a gamble, and if you really hate it it's a huge book so you'll be able to start a lot of fireplaces with it, or set boobytraps if you get the HC version.

I just read through UDON's Street Fighter Origins: Akuma graphic novel. I've always been a fan of Akuma and I thought it did a great service to explaining the backstory of an enigmatic character whose background goes no farther than, "Killed his master, killed his brother (but he got better) and lost in a fight to Gen one time."

The Ryu/Akuma stuff from Street Fighter lore is so blatantly Jedi/Sith that it almost feels like the writer wanted to see if he could write an "Anakin turns to Vader" life story without wussifying the main character and making him whine and cry. poo poo happens and you nod your head because, yeah, it's totally understandable that a dude would become a badass demonic hermit living in the mountains, obsessed with power and honor.

Hey guys, Sex Criminals #1 by Matt Fraction is out today and you can grab it here. The premise is a bit more interesting than I originally thought it would be and it's (unsurprisingly) pretty funny.

Well, YMMV but last time I tried it I couldn't even work out how to use it properly, it was weird about downloading stuff, the filing system is confusing and it randomly deleted stuff. Maybe it's better now though, give it a try and let us know how it goes?

I thought the premise was *so dumb*, but the comic was actually good.

Honestly I just want Fraction to write more Hawkeye, Hawkeye all the time, though. Have liked it at least one step more than anything else of his I've read, including Immortal Iron Fist and Invincible Iron Man.* I'd love for him to have a creator-owned I'd really love, though (Casanova I bounced off one issue, but I should probably try again).

*A large part of this must be the art, though.

They also don't have any HD comics. Like, at all. I say this a lot, and maybe it's just a big deal to me, but it's inexcusable that they're making you pay the same price for SD comics in 2013. It's a lesser product, straight up.

Sex Criminals was good but it was the most Matt Fraction book possible that I'm curious if it will manage to maintain as the book continues.

Also it's weird to have a character quote Lolita at a girl and it not being played as him being a creep.

I really loving loved the hell out of Sex Criminals, it to me felt more on point than the other stuff he's been writing other than Hawkeye. I don't know two people discover that they both have the ability to stop time when they have sex and decide to rob banks/ commit crimes is a loving brilliant hook.

I think part of the Sex Criminals thing is just that any of the elements in it could be done wrong and it would ruin the whole book, but everything works together so well. The whole is really greater than the sum of its parts for this book.
