A wolf was no less a wolf because a whim of chance caused him to run with the watch-dogs.

If you land on the asteroid, you take a damage roll (and can't attack). Next turn, as you leave the asteroid, if your template touches the asteroid, you take a damage roll.

Ok, so no double damage roll from the same asteroid in one movement though right? Like template touches AND you land on the same asteroid the template touched?

Correct, it's only one roll per turn. If you cock up and land on the asteroid, on your subsequent activation you will take a second asteroid damage roll if your template overlaps the asteroid on that move. So the same asteroid gives you two damage rolls on two turns because on each turn your template overlapped it.

Ok so just so I am 100% on Asteroids for the next session I need one more thing validated or disproved. If your movement template crosses two different asteroids, OR your movement template crosses one asteroid, AND you land on a different asteroid, will that be 2 damage rolls? Or is it just one overall abstract damage roll?

This is the main thing that's jarring about X-Wing - it's impossible for me to get past seeing Rebel vs. Rebel fights and Empire vs. Empire fights. I know the setting is just the two sides (forgive me if there are more, I don't read the novels and such) and you can't get away from that, but it's just...weird to see.

They're training exercises!

I'd like them to add a pirate/smuggler faction or at least make them solid subthemes of the rebel/empire factions, but with the speed of releases I'd think we have wave 4 to go at least before that.

It would be cool if they just added a new faction via new pilot cards that let you fly, say, stolen TIEs with a YT-1300 and HWK or something, although that'd probably need a lot of new point costing and balancing.

Of concern however is the tournament prizes. Since it is a WizKids production, a lot of game altering cards/units/dice will only be available through the tournaments. This includes an attack die with no misses and even some double hits that can be used once per turn, for only 5BP (out of 100). Also DS9 is a tournament prize exclusive, and can be used in tournaments. So keep that in mind if you're thinking of playing it competitively.

How could they ever think this was a good idea. If X-wing had stuff like this I never would have bought so much of it.

I would make sure to watch people move their ships. I've seen people who brag about "flying in formation" who just move one ship then move several otehrs along with it, instead of using the templates (which will result in a crash)

This a million times. I was guilty of this in my first two games (friendly not tourney) until someone showed me that moving ships side by side through turns doesn't work with all ships doing the same turn. And I assumed they would because I was playing from a "warhammer fantasy" standpoint so it made sense that things would move in unison and keep formation as long as they all selected the same maneuver.

FFG is really really good about not doing that sort of thing. L5R is pretty bad, but it's mostly through limited promos, not tournament prizes THAT CAN BE USED IN SUBSEQUENT TOURNAMENTS.

Looking at the current event, the Dominion War series of tournaments, the following ships/cards are tournament exclusives.

Month 1 (past)
Krayton/D’Kora-class Ferengi Marauder (The iconic Ferengi swept crescent in orange)
Elite Attack Dice/Reference Cards (5SP, replaces one attack die a round, no blanks. All sides are either battle stations [focus], hits, crits, or even double hits)
DS9/Nor-Class Space Station Oversize token & cards (A cardboard token that acts as a ship)

Month 2 (now)
I.K.S. Ch’Tang/B’rel-class Pre-painted Plastic Ship (Iconic swept wing Klingon ship)
Command Tokens/Cards/Reference Cards (5SP, does... something, don't know)
Red Shirt Crew Upgrade Promo Cards (probably discard it to prevent another crew from discarding)

Month 3 (future)
P.W.B. Aj’rmr/D’deridex-class Pre-painted Plastic Ship ([Need I say it?] Iconic Romulan TNG ship)
Reinforcements Sideboards (Looks like a nice template for keeping your ship cards organized, probably costs points and does something)
Plastic Bases and Pegs set; each set includes 4 bases and 8 pegs (in 4 colors) (Okay this is a cook promo prize)

Month 4 (future)
U.S.S. Sutherland/Nebula-class Pre-painted Plastic Ship (Of all the federation ships I want this one. It looks like a Galaxy class's derpy, stunted little brother)
Flagship set; each set includes 4 Flagship Cards, 1 Reference Card, and 1 Base and 2 Pegs (black) (They are point cards that give +1 attack/agility/shields, 10 pts each)

Month 5 (future)

Rav Laerst/Breen Battle Cruiser Pre-painted Plastic Ship (I honestly don't remember these ships in the series)
Hideki Class Attack Squadron Resource with Reference card and Ship Card/tokens (ditto here, at least these are participation prizes)

Month 6 (future)

Akorem/Bajoran Starship Pre-painted Plastic Ship (Not even shown. Oooo maybe it's the stupid wooden solar sail lightspeed ship)
Federation Attack Squadron Resource with Reference Card and Ship Card/tokens (At least these are participation prizes)
Deep Space 9 Pre-painted Plastic Space Station Grand PrizeThe big one, and only 1 per store for all 6 tournaments.

http://wizkidsgames.com/dominionwar/

BTW, according to the WizKids event locator (which has the most annoying registration for a site I've experienced in the last few years. Segmented activation code fields, ugh), the stores running these events "mostly haven't entered themselves into the event locator so try calling around and see if you find something."

Still, at least for the primary ship prizes for each tournament there is one set aside for the event organizer, something which FFG should do but currently doesn't.

Also looking at the pictures online and the stock in stores/in play, I'd say it's false advertising. The original Enterprise/Constellation class, something they should put a lot of effort into due to it being iconic, looks nothing like the online pictures and looks more like a charm bracelet. None of the ship sculpts are terribly impressive, likely related to this being the same company that does HeroClix.

Incorrect, according to the FAQ.

Q: After a ship moves through or overlaps more than one obstacle, does the owner roll an attack die for each of these obstacles?
A: No. He rolls only one attack die regardless of the number of obstacle tokens his ship moves through or overlaps.

For someone with 2x Core Set, 1x Millenium Falcon, 1x A-Wing, 1x TIE Advanced, and 1x Tie Interceptor, any recommendations for 2 forces?

I'm thinking for Dark Side...

Darth Vader/Backstabber/Obsidian Squad Pilot/Turr Phennir (100 pts)

and for light side...

Biggs (R2-F2, Shield Upgrade), Luke (Expose, R2-D2, Proton Torpedoes), Arvel Crynyd (Concussion Missiles).

Not having access to the Tie Fighter pack IDs really hurts the swarm I would want to run (Darth/Backstabber/Mauler Mithel/Winged Gundark/Howlrunner, with 5 points worth of things)

Playing in my first league games tonight. Not sure I want to play with the HWK or the B-Wing with little experience. B-Wing seems ultra easy to incorporate into a squadron but making use of that HWK-290 could be tricky.

What's a good staple? I like running the Falcon with Gunner for the inevitable Darth Vader rubbish. However, I was thinking of running Wedge, some rookie pilots, Proton Torpedoes, and a B-Wing. I have everything in multiples except Y-Wings.

Yeah, Imperials not having howlrunner really hurts the swarm but I would probably do something like:

Soontir Fel(Push the Limits)
Darth Vader(Squad Leader)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot x3

For rebels, you might not even want to use this because it will probably wreck the imperials every time but:

Han Solo (Marksmanship, Gunner, Chewbacca)
Rookie Xwing x2

Its a pretty popular build called "Han Shot First" and its brutal.

Do you just have one B-wing? B-wings are so good so many ways and they fit perfectly into so many builds.

The only one b-wing list that I think may be competitive is:

Wedge
Biggs/Sheild/R2D2
Ten Numb/Marksmenship/Engine Upgrade

Its the classic Bigg/Wedge with the beast Ten Numb instead of luke. The list is really good but loses to swarms or double firespray lists really easily.

Tournament today had a nice turnout of 19 people. Was $5 entry and I made it to the top 4 for $20 with wedge with swarm tactics, a-wing, x-wing, and dagger b-wing with HLC. Lost to a sweet imperial build in the semi running 3 interceptors with a Jendon lambda+vader+saboteur and 3 interceptor list. Having a shuttle that rips your ships apart after taking down shields is rough.

I ran something similar but should have altered it. B-Wings are beasts but everyone was playing Rebels and the asteroids were bastards. I ran an Autoblaster on Ten Numb and when he was in range it was ridiculous. I took Jan Ors to support him and give him 4 die roll along with a blaster turret herself with Recon Specialist. I ran a Biggs setup with an R2-F2 unit and Stealth device.

I think that would have been far more effective against an Imperial player because Rebels pack so much damage having 4 die really didn't matter since chances were he lost the stealth device quickly. Going to take a look at doing an imperial setup due to the composition of what everyone seems to run here.

The only thing I put stealth device on are things with 3 base maneuver. Things with under 3 are always better off taking a shield upgrade. Especially x-wing's with R2-D2 that can regain the bonus shield upgrade.

Stealth Upgrade can work on A-Wings but you can't really base a whole gimmick around it, and as rebels modifications aren't all that great unless you've got a gimmick around it, on account of their ships being relatively expensive already.

Having been a fan of the old Rogue Squadron games I decided to go straight-up rebels, and as of now I've got four ships with a bunch more on the way. That being said, would anyone mind looking at the list I've been using? I've pretty much only been able to play against other newbies, so I'd be interested to see how it compares to what other people have been fielding.

I haven't been able to use this exact configuration yet, but I've been using the A-Wings a bunch and I really like what both the advanced pilots are capable of, especially Tycho when he's paired with Push the Limit.
