Digital Life can be billed separately.

Which TMo data plan are you quoting? Just curious.

Simple Choice: http://www.t-mobile.com/cell-phone-plans/individual.html

Line 1 with 2.5GB (tethering included) = $60
Line 2 with 2.5GB (tethering included) = $40
Line 3 with 2.5GB (tethering included) = $20
Their "FAN" equivalent = 15% off total bill, so $102 total.
International data and SMS roaming is also included.

AT&T Mobile Share: http://www.att.com/att/planner/index.html

Line 1 smartphone: $35
Line 2 smartphone: $35
Line 3 smartphone: $35
6GB group data (tethering included): $90
FAN discount = 20% off the data portion, so $177 total.
No international data or SMS roaming included.

Basically with or without the FAN, AT&T is $25 per line per month more expensive. Considering that an AT&T contract is 2 years, that's $600 worth over the term per line.

T-Mobile is really making changes for the better.

Digital life has to be a separate account, they haven't integrated the billing yet. Solves that problem for them.

I don't know if we need to go that hyperbolic and white knighting. Its def important to mention there is a big coverage gap between TMo and ATT/Verizon, so I would advise trying a prepaid burner phone first. If it works great, if not stick with ATT.

Personally, I'm curious to see if TMobile can keep the pricing up long term. Sprint made waves 3 years ago with similar pricing, and then they jacked it up when they realized they couldn't break even. I'm all for a competitive market, so it'll be interesting to see.

If you are in east PA have them come see me, Beefstorm is in West PA as well. A digital life sale makes or breaks a reps month right now.

That wasn't my intent, only to point of that the "pros" of the T-Mobile are rather restrictive before they really make sense. They aren't competitive for a reason, and it's their general lack of coverage. So they make these fun gimmicks like international roaming to create a perception of value. You have to acknowledge that T-Mo has run the numbers and wouldn't back any initiative that isn't making them money; i.e. so few customers will travel internationally that they can absorb the cost and still profit from what looks like good PR.
I'm currently one of the last people to white knight for AT&T; I'm irritated beyond belief over some of the (retail) changes that have happened over the last 5 years. Helping people and making them happy has taken a back seat to "growth."

Yeah I hear ya dude. Its pretty depressing at times. I'm pretty proud that my survey rating is at 94% this month (the goal is 72%), and if they ask me how I did it I would says its treating each customer equally even if they are not buying a Digital Life or Next.

To clarify for non-ATT retail goons, as of August ATT retail employees only get paid revenue when you increase the bill. So if I have a customer with a total bill of $160 a month, and I switch them to a mobile share that is $150, I see $0 off that revenue. If I switch them to a $160 plan, I see $0. If I switch them to a $180 plan, I see $180. Or if it's a $160 plan with a $10 insurance plan, I see $170.

Sales working under a large company can be fun. The plus side is the goals are at least pretty easily achievable currently. I'm waiting for those to get jacked back up.

Oh, and they basically stopped paying on upgrades unless you do the aforementioned revenue increase or sell a billion accys.

Get Uverse TV, Digital Life, or Activate more than 2 (smartphone) lines of service at a retail store, and a manager would probs let you slide with a free one. Anecdotally speaking, of course.

AT&T will most times give them away when you buy whatever they are pushing at the moment.

Pretty much exactly what we've all been saying.

All of us confronted our manager yesterday informing him that, even though we know it isn't his fault, if they do not fix this, or at least communicate that they are working on it, we can't afford to work here and will be leaving.

It's been a very stressful 4 months.

How I approach it is by reasonable sales. I upsell where I can (I would say it is my job) but the minute I realize I can't make anything, I lower the bill as much as possible. The system really does promote self interest over the customer, but I would say that currently the goals are low enough that you can finagle enough to both take care of the majority of people while not being a complete shitwad.

I do have to say, even with the changes ATT pays way better than what I made at other similar jobs, so to be fair I don't think it's that cut and dry yet. That being said, there are def huge issues with commissions reporting that I personally have been fighting for months, and I def have seen a pay reduction in a 3 month span on my commission in spite of focusing on the new company goals. In the end, ATT will likely just have a one time big turn over where the old guard who knew how much better it was leaves, and the new guard comes in knowing none the wiser. My personal solution is to get promoted in the next months and not have to worry about it.

My Nexus is working fine on AT&T now, and I’d like to take the iPhone profits and get the Nexus 5.  What I’m having trouble grasping is what I need to do in order to make the iPhone ready to sell.  I understand that it comes with a pre-loaded SIM that (maybe?) is linked to our account.  I’d prefer to leave the phone in its factory wrapping, of course.  I understand that the phone will be locked to AT&T, and will of course advertise as such.  Is it necessary that I open the box to remove ‘my’ SIM prior to sale?  If so, I might attempt to sell it locally, so that the buyer can open the box, knowing that it’s factory fresh (and then I’d take the SIM with me and toss it?).

Thanks, and sorry for all the words and dumb questions.  I even tried AT&T customer service, and I didn’t really get it.

If you intend to cancel the number, then don't worry about the sim. Otherwise just go into an AT&T store and request a new sim. That wayit deactivates the sim in the box.

You're fine, just call in when you get the phone and have them delete the pending activation. That won't delete the upgrade or cause a cancellation, when you order te phone the system "parks" the equipment where it auto activates when you say "hey I have the phone." Since you don't want it to do that, just ask them to kill the pending parked equipment.
