I had loud-rear end Danmoto slip-ons on my Firestorm and since then have reverted back to stock. I also lowered the gearing of the sprockets for more furious acceleration. So it's now a relatively quiet, but startingly fast, commuter. Yet it keeps on getting the backseat to my SV650... cuz, fuel economy. V-twins rule anyway, especially on 35-degree mornings when you don't want to bother with warming up a I-4 engine for some commuting fun. Torque up the wazoo from 3-5k rpm.

Yeah I love it despite its laughable range. The regulator died already, but the dealer replaced it and the battery for free which was nice. You are the second person to tell me about that and the cam chain, so I'll probably get that replaced preemptively as soon as I can. Edit: this Friday in fact. According to my dealer, Honda has a cam chain tensioner which superseded the original, and is not poo poo. Also swapping the tyres for a set of Pirelli Angel STs as the current ones feel like old wood and the front end in particular feels stupidly slippery. Well if I'm reading it right, the front tyre has been on since 1999 and the rear since 2001. V edit: yeah I've heard they're pretty good, and they can last a very long time as well. I just put some Angel STs on not too long ago. It's been a great tire so far. Be ready for the quicker turn in from the profile. I was taken by surprise on the first corner, but you get used to it fast.

drat. I got my bike with the original stock tires (none too good even when brand new) still on it. They were from 03 and they were dry rotted as all hell, and there was a huuuuge crack in the sidewall directly under the DOT date on the front one. The PO was still riding it in the twisties. "Don't lean over too far and you'll be fine!" he said.

In A mode, you better be ready to commit to accelerating, as it is pretty jerky. I put it in standard on the freeway and B for around town and there's no real twitch. There is a weird thing where if you give it just the tiniest bit of gas and keep the throttle there, it surges a bit like its running lean until you give it more throttle, once you give it some normal throttle though, that goes away. All in all, this bike is amazing. The suspension is exactly what you would expect from an $8000, and will probably require heavier weight oil and new springs for my fat rear end. I love it so far. I'm 6'2" and 300 lbs so I'm gonna need to get a rear spring for my weight. Even still it is perfect for the riding I've been doing lately which is dual sport events and single track. The Honda was a good bike to use to make sure I wanted a dual sport but I'm glad to be on a Drz. It's so light and the controls pull so easy it feels like cheating. I'm even gonna sell my Sv650 that I haven't been riding.

I rode this one way on a 45 mile trip, and road my buddies speed triple back. The only difference I could tell was the suspension on the FZ-09 feels like that's where they cut costs. Still handles like its on rails though. God drat this bike is fun.

Bought a set of Warm and Safe heated liners. Gloves, jacket and pants. Oh good god I'm so warm. I was riding down the freeway in 30 degree weather and had it set at half power, and it was almost too hot. Expensive to get set up, but drat is it worth it. Got some new Pirelli Angel STs installed on my Firestorm and picked it up this morning. Amazing how different a bike can feel when you don't have tyres that are 11-13 years old on them. Then I took it out to start the process of duttying that nice new oil up by giving it a nice run up and down my favourite section of the Old Pacific Highway 3 or 4 times. Definitely the hardest I've ever cornered, I only have maybe half-inch chicken strips now and the tyre has that nice stippled appearance on the parts of the tyre where I was quite leaned over. I had the dealer soften the suspension to the "Comfort" settings as specified by Triumph and they softened the preload as well as I'm about 10kg under the weight the bike is sprung for. It's still firm, but has that little extra bit of compliance which takes the harshness out of it. They said they found the intake manifold bolts weren't tightened up fully and that was allowing a bit of an oil leak, I dunno wtf that's about. Said they'd never seen it before. Anyway, that's sorted, and I'm pretty sure the intake growl is more pronounced now. So that's nice too. I'd post a pic but some fuckwit backed into the bike and knocked it over in my second week of owning it, I'll get some snaps once the repairs are done...

Got my Firestorm back with the cam chain tensioners changed and a fresh set of Pirelli Angel STs today. Naturally I had to go find some ribbon roads to see how it feels. Its actually the first time I opened it up since I bought it. Lets just say that I run out of guts long before it runs out of torque. Holy poo poo. Only thing that's bugging me now is that the front suspension seems to bite, like its sticking somewhere in the suspension travel over sharpish type bumps. This is particularly noticeable after a longish ride, and under braking. Dunno what that is. Doesn't seem to affect the handling or anything, but it's certainly jarring.

It was present on the bike from the time I bought it. Either its just a characteristic of the bike, or perhaps the bike's suspension is a little tired. While it is more obvious when under heavy load, it doesn't happen exclusively then. VVVV edit: 32 thousandish kilometres (less than 20K miles), and the bike is completely stock. Not a lot, but it is a 13 year old bike, and I would be surprised if the suspension has ever been looked at. Its probably something I'm just going to have to live with for a while. I don't really have the money/time to deal with it right now, and I'm pretty sure the wife would set the thing on fire if I brought it up after the money spent to buy it (which she grudgingly gave permission for) and the new tyres/cam chain tensioner (which she didn't give permission for, but accepted as necessary, if with bad grace). So I'll probably just have to live with it until it becomes effectively unridable, or I can get them to take a look at it for its next service. C'est la vie. I'd go replace fork oil>check steering head bearings. What sort of mileage has the bike got? The only firestorm I've ridden had pretty heavily modified suspension so I don't have much reference myself.

Have you properly adjusted the suspension for your weight? I think superhawks have preload both front and back. At least set the suspension back to the stock settings.
