I remember the last time these got brought up someone found one that was made from the front-half of an Olds Toronado, wish I could find that picture. Pimp-est plane tug ever. E; gently caress why do I always end up with the snype. Terrible Robot fucked around with this message at 23:27 on Nov 25, 2013 |

The backward half-cars are specifically for seaplanes, so you can see what you're doing instead of trying to back up a trailer. Often made from Olds Toronados, because they have the front-wheel-drive big-V8 combination that makes the conversion a lot easier. I'd imagine with most 4wd trucks, the front half of the drivetrain/transfer case is somewhat less beefy that the back half. I can't find the pictures either. Edit: here's one picture. anonumos posted:Airports frequently use half-cars like that to tow planes around. Something about maneuverability. This showed up in one of the threads on SA, so I remember the discussion about them. It's like a poor man's version of this: You'll see some inventive things at some of the more smaller rural airports. Specialized pushbacks are very expensive so many places have to make do with what they can. This is one we use at work it was purchased used and was still over $40,000 I believe. Its 4WD and has a couple different modes of 2 or 4 wheel steering with one allowing it to do 360 spins sitting in one location. fe: found a pic without our company logo on it

The first time I saw one in real life was when it was casually parallel parked between other cars in front of a post office in a small town in CT that I used to live in. The thing is TINY! I was amazed that such a rare beauty was driven about and left unattended. Few years later through a string of coincidences I was lucky to have been driven in a bunch of Z8s and my 507 sighting always made me appreciate them so much more.

veedubfreak posted:Is that motorized or is that chick just seriously strong. Also, that transmissions is loving huge. I doubt it's motorized, and how much could that all weigh? 1200 lbs at the most? On a flat burnished concrete floor you should be able to move that thing around with one hand on a cart like that. I can move 500-800 lb motors around on a lovely harbor freight 3-wheeled engine stand (tiny, crappy wheels) on a not-nearly-as-nice concrete slab one handed without effort.

The Veyron really does nothing for me. It's also like 7 years old at this point, right? Maybe the aesthetic made sense prior to the financial crisis. To cleanse the palate, I think this might have been posted before but here is Speedhunters on the Huyara again. http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/10/nur-meister-the-pagani-zonda-revolucion/ http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/10/pagani-tour-next-step/ http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/10/modern-day-da-vinci-horacio-pagani/ http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/10/huayra-love-love/ http://www.speedhunters.com/2013/11/drive-of-a-lifetime-the-huayra-on-track/ I don't really care about mega-dollar cars in general but I hvae to admit the Huyara (and Zonda too I suppose) makes a pretty good case for being actually worth $1m+.
