The Shortest Path posted:In regards to Curse being douchebags and all that, what's the big deal with them? The only influence I've seen them have on sites they've bought up have been positive ones, although I don't know anything about their big WoW-related addon/site thing and all the drama about that. It's mostly the WoW thing. They were involved in a lot of shady dealings to kill competition (like trying to hold copyright claims on any mods hosted by them.) They've also been accused of rigging sponsored tournaments in LOL and the like through purposely throwing matches and splitting the winnings.

Yeah, anyone who hates spelunking hates fun. You can find huge fuckoff caverns several screens in size, large mineral veins and +4 level monsters leaping out of the darkness to eat your face off.

It does use up resources in the form of torches and a pick and your generic block type of choice, but it's got about as much biome diversity as exploring surface levels. Maybe even moreso, considering that one of the layers I had to dig through on a desert planet was made entirely of ice and snow. "Flesh" is my favorite underground biome.

DrManiac posted:Not if it's as bad as the randomly generated weapons The randomly generated weapons that drop from guards and USCM prisoners on TL20 planets were pretty fantastic. Lot of 24-25 penetration stuff. Getting a weapon with 25/1.05/40 for its stats meant one-shotting everything other than the occasional guard on a TL20 planet, while doing 150-200 damage per hit to the Tier2 boss. I'd take armor of a similar 'badness' in a heartbeat. Right now you get snow infantry gear and then hope you can find a fuckton of gold, and later platinum/titanium to make the knight armor (or w/e else non-glitch get). I killed some avians on a TL30 planet and got a 34 penetration weapon a bit ago, it murders things wonderfully. Maybe when things like even gold aren't rare as hell on TL20 planets then ok. If i could get a good 2handed sword every tier I'd be a happy murderbot. Nothing as fun as a giant, long-reaching overhand swing that does shitloads of damage even if it's a 0.45 attack speed. Either way, bring on the random armor drops/sales in towns. Pakled posted:Not to presume things about how other people play the game, but I think maybe some people who are saying that spelunking is unsatisfying haven't tried digging deeper. Starbound does have fuckhuge cave systems with neat treasure and ores and stuff inside of them, but unlike Terraria, they rarely seem to be linked to the holes in the surface. I think the game would be better if you didn't *always* have to dig to reach the interesting underground parts. So people check caves linked to the surface, find nothing of interest, and assume the underground is barren. Fortunately, the system Tiy was talking about earlier of making harder monsters and better loot spawn deeper underground will incentiveise digging more. Last night a cave my group found went about 80% of the way to the core of the planet, and digging slightly at the bottom connected to another cave system that did hit the bottom. We spent probably 2 hours slowly crawling through it and the only thing in terraria that comes close to the complexity is a large world dungeon or maybe a lucky jungle setup. The cave system in this game is amazing. One section even switched to cobble stone and some semi-damaged pillars. Sadly it wasn't some ancient ruined keep but it looked sorta like it.

My big problem with digging far underground is that there is usually no music, so it can get quite dull to just be spelunking in silence. I'm guessing there's either a missing trigger for the music, or the intended track isn't yet implemented.

And, well, there's them harassing Tiy for not making their wiki the official one; them being dicks like that is also common. Basically they're assholes who encourage their users to be assholes and have done a lot of dubiously legal (at best) things. They're awful. Also most of what they provide is terrible anyway.

You shouldn't have to just dig down doing absolutely nothing for whatever amount of time to find cool caves and poo poo. That isn't really fun. Also how do I find prisons and towns and stuff like you guys are talking about? Just have to explore for long enough either left or right on a planet?

The caves are pretty densely-packed, there's not a lot of areas that don't have caves in them, and a strong percentage of planets have some kind of civilization on them. The theme from what I've seen seems to be "seek and ye shall find".

I read the OP and the last couple pages but this thread moves very very quickly so I apologize if this comes up a lot. I'm not really interested in using the google doc to jump straight to a specific world, but I'm just dying to find a gun. Just a regular old bang bang gun. Right now I'm wearing iron armor and using a 2 handed sword that lets me feel pretty comfortable out to about TL 5 or 6 (I'm probably very bad at this game.) So my question is: can anyone give me some low spoiler advice or hints on where I might find a solid projective gun with high damage and low rate of fire (like a shotgun or bolt action rifle) without saying "go to these coordinates"? Are there certain kinds of worlds I should be looking for? I killed a few APEX guards and though they all HAD guns before I killed them, they dropped junk melee weapons.

If you ever find an anchor on the ground with a chain going waaaay up, you're underneath an Avian airship. The quartermaster sells guns, that's the most reliable way to get them. Guns are typically much weaker than melee weapons though so they won't do a whole heck of a lot of damage in the way you probably want. They're rebalancing all of the weapons and armor and basically gutting the whole system and replacing it because it's broken and they're doing that this week though so who knows how it'll look in the next couple days.

There's no better armor that I can make in tier 2 than the steel armor, right? I went to the level 20 planet posted a few pages ago to get myself some guns (I think I should be dual wielding pistols now that I've experimented with my sniper rifle, though) and everything two-shots me. The first hit takes me down to near-zero.

Ok, well, double pistols was a bad idea. They have no knockback and the higher DPS doesn't come even close to making up for the decreased damage. I was hoping that the 20 armor penetration was gonna be all I need, but nope.
