I was just looking through the docs for Immersive Mode and it looks like we could use SYSTEM_UI_FLAG_IMMERSIVE_STICKY to avoid the jumpy resizing behaviour when toggling the bars in Immersive Mode.

Yes and no. Yes, it improves the behavior if you manually pull down to get the system bar. However, if you cause a dialog or the overflow to pop-up, the same normal behavior happens. I'm sure there is a way to prevent that but I have no idea what it is.

Why don't we just hide the Action Bar entirely in Immersive? It's only a flick away and I'm sure most people spend a lot more time reading the content than starting a new (unquoted) reply. This is also what Google suggest.

Honestly I haven't experimented much with Immersion mode (or fullscreen) and just went with Glimm's implementation. But when I tried hiding the action bar, P2R behaved in unintended ways.

3.0.5 went out today. If you have a device with 4.4+ it's all the way down in the settings.

Yeah initially I hid the ActionBar and P2R was a bit borked. I might be able to look into making it work that way over the holiday, I just haven't dug into the P2R stuff much. Would we want to update to the latest version of that lib too? I think a large-ish, API breaking release was made recently - but it might solve some of the issues we've had with P2R. IIRC Awful uses a pretty customized version of an older version right, mainly for handling pull from both ends I assume?

Also I had the sticky flag in place while messing with immersive mode but for some reason thought I should turn it off. I don't think there was any technical reason for it. I'm totally down for going sticky!

Fyi, I just tried pulling down the master from the Awful repo and I think the AQuery jar isn't actually in the project. For now I'll build with the broken AQuery version some jackass added to the build.gradle when he moved the project over to Gradle.

Immersive mode owns, thank you! The jumpiness is a little quirky, but is pretty minor as far as I can tell and in general I think it works very well. Confirming that P2R/P4N looks to be working properly in threads now.

Immservive mode just seems buggy on Android in general. I used another app called Instapaper and it's jumpy when it goes to fullscreen too. iOS solved this a long time ago how hard is it for Google to just copy it.

Just checked and yeah, the whole folder (\Awful.apk\libs) is missing. Nothing in the .gitignore's, but the folder wont go up. Who the gently caress knows. I'm glad I left the old line as a comment.

As for P2R, it mostly seems to work now except for the P2R string when not on the last page. I opted fixing the bugs this far instead of updating the library. Pulling from the bottom will not be implemented by Banes and afaict is harder to achieve in the new version. Our version isn't that customized though, mostly ' if(fromBottom){ y = -y;} ' stuff. I wouldn't mind an update to the P2R library but I think it might be best to wait for 1.0 or whenever he stops messing with how the library works.

I think that would be a good idea, that's the first place I looked honestly :shobon: think it would be great for dev-chat.

Anyway, what dev environment are you using, Eclipse?

I'm trying to get it running in IDEA, took me a while to get everything to import correctly and get the correct environment / Android SDK stuff set-up. Anyway, I've got a build configuration running build.gradle, then attempting to make Awful.apk, which then fails with the following error every time

quote:

android-apt-compiler: Command "C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\build-tools\19.0.0\aapt.exe package -m -J C:\Users\user\.IntelliJIdea12\system\compile-server\_temp_\android_apt_output3107423358748684403tmp -M C:\Projects\Android\Awful.apk\Awful.apk\src\main\AndroidManifest.xml -S C:\Projects\Android\Awful.apk\Awful.apk\src\main\res -I C:\Program Files (x86)\Android\android-sdk\platforms\android-19\android.jar" execution failed with exit code -1073741819

Any remote idea what this means?

Tangent question, I thought gradle would run build scripts and build poo poo, seems I'm wrong? Is it basically just dependencies management (at least for this project)?

Coming from an embarrassingly heavy .NET background so a lot of this stuff is new to me (gradle etc).

I guess it's not a bad idea in the long run. I'll make a thread over the weekend.

If I understand the error correctly it's trying to compile the project with the old method (ant?), not gradle.

Personally I switched from Eclipse to Android Studio after Glimm made the gradle changes. I checked out the project in AS and was able to test it almost right away.

Actually figured out it was another thing I was missing in IDEA. Doh! (For the curious, I was running the wrong configuration - I was not running any of the gradle tasks, which you do through the JetGradle plugin).

But it brought up another thing, in Awful.apk/Awful.apk/build.gradle the dependency for AQuery is commented out, which was causing me to not get that library which was causing some compile errors.

Is there a reason it's commented out?

You should be able to build using the gradle wrapper which is included with the project. I haven't tried on Windows but running gradle.bat should make a proper build from the command line.

Also I totally second the idea of putting a thread in the project log!

Er, yeah - when I converted the project to Gradle I pointed the build to an older version of AQuery than Awful.apk was previously using (because I'm an rear end). It was commented out in there as there are some bugs in that jar, but the newer version hasn't been added to maven central and we haven't recommitted the jar.

Personally I'm just un-commenting that out locally for now until Sereri can update the project with the proper jar (but I think Sereri is having some git issues committing it?)

Yeah, I still don't know why. Anyway, Maven central has only version 0.25.9 but we need 0.25.10+ . Last time I tried 0.26 was still beta; it's the stable now so I guess that would work now too.

If someone could successfully commit the jar, it'd make things easier for people setting up the project.
