The "crops grow instantly" bug has to do with two different unstackable items of the same name, too. I harvested some tomatoes from a planet, got 4 seeds and 1 seed, and those 4 grow instantly and that 1 doesn't. And the seeds from those as well.

I you want to rush through the first few tech levels, yeah sure it feels grindy if you do it as fast as you can over and over. But if you take your time and dig and explore it's great. I mean look at this, it's fantastic.

So I got that "instant base just add water" mod working this afternoon: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4EUN4pFPTJ0 There's some other assorted tat in the mod - recipes so you can craft all the different kinds of metal table (dunno why they're disabled in the base game), a kitchen counter version of each of those tables, one of those apex pod things that you can get into for rapid healing and a furnace that lets you smelt stuff instantly. I don't suppose anyone fancies doing a few icons & images for any of that? I'm cack at art.

I don't think there's any practical limit on size or object count, though you have to stick with preset stuff at the moment. I'm looking at making them repackable right now, but I'm not sure if you can store information on an object and have it persist - monster taming does something along those lines though, so I've got a place to start at least. If I can get it working, the aim is to have craftable sensors - you'd put one at each corner of the building, wire them together, interact and your building gets packed into a cube. You then have thirty minutes to move your cube. MShadowy posted:drat that's actually a pretty neat mod. That's really what it's for, hit a new planet and slap down a quick outpost before you start exploring. You wouldn't make it a home.

This is the kind of game where "progress" isn't the whole point really. If you enjoy exploring and building now, odds are you will enjoy exploring and building later. It's a make your own fun sandbox.

Morning posted:Chest bug is still in game, I just checked. I tried out the two Primitive Chests I had; When I put them on the ground, they had new loot inside. Emptied them, picked it up, put it down, no loot. I think the bugged chests will only do it once now; after you pick it up it's the 'right' kind of chest now. Tried out my bugged seeds, potato in this case. Put them in the ground, they grew instantly. Harvested them, and the seeds were combining with my other stack; putting those in the ground leads to the normal sprout and growing time. I think these bugs have been fixed, the bugged items have to be used once more to revert to their correct versions, though.

Ok, since I don't really have time to tidy this mod up before christmas or test it myself, I've slung it up on the Chucklefish site for people to break: http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/base-in-a-box-v0-1.58547/ Feedback (especially of the "I did something you hadn't anticipated and now your mod is on fire" variety) is much appreciated. You really don't want to go there. There-in lies madness and pages-long derails. The quick answer is that all player sprites are based on a set of base models, one male and one female. So all females in the game have the same body shape (breasts included) because that's the shape of the base female model.

I know that that makes sense- I guess I just always feel a bit about humans assuming that every alien will have: A) two binary genders, and B) Boobs and/or a penis. Eh- I'm sure eventually someone will come up with a non binary, asexual, or differently-gendered species. That'd be super neat.

Makes big builds a huge hassle right now.
