Maybe it's just the inertia and lack of interest with bands that punish their fans for three straight albums, but I don't think anybody bothered to let me know that this year's Children of Bodom wasn't a complete piece of poo poo and was actually the best thing they've done in a decade.

Blooddrunk wasn't so bad. Halo of Blood hasn't really been doing it for me but maybe I'll change my mind after I give it another listen. Bodom hasn't done to their death metal fans what In Flames did, at least. e: their best album in the last few years was where they did a bunch of covers DeusExMachinima fucked around with this message at 01:38 on Dec 24, 2013 |

The best unknown album of 2013 is the collaboration between St. Louis bands The Lion's Daughter (black/sludge metal) and Indian Blanket (folk) entitled A Black Sea. Here's a track from it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzSeiGa0vec

That's as good an explanation as any for why Worlds Beyond the Veil is a goddamn great album. Although it seems to imply that The Next Day is David Bowie's best album and that is simply unacceptable Gamma Nerd fucked around with this message at 06:36 on Dec 26, 2013 |

I thought the death/doom release from Autopsy was particularly good this year. I also really liked the band Lasse Pyykkö did with Kam Lee a few years ago called, The Skeletal. They released one album called, The Plague Rituals, that was drat fine. Not so much of the doom/death variety, but pretty much just straight forward horror influenced traditional death metal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjziEA6_nB0

I went searching for more music like Nemesis Divina again, this time I found this thread on metal-archives.com. Fog - Through the Eyes of Night... Winged They Come https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQbd747s0CA The production doesn't quite match up, but the general style does. Taake - Hordalands doedskvad https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0u4eh8ZkWY This is more similar in production, I think. Anarchist Mae fucked around with this message at 00:50 on Dec 27, 2013 |

I've got a not really metal request: I'm looking for something like Tommy Emmanuels, The Journey, but heavier. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frIPjM1YaDQ It get's really interesting at about the 2:30 mark, and 90s sound effects aside I really like it. The problem is he never did anything like it again, as far as I can tell he mellowed the gently caress out, which is a shame.

Enslaved are pretty distinctive imo, but you should check out Negura Bunget, who released OM, which is an incredible progressive BM album. You might also like Borknager. As a sidenote, I'm listening to the new Falkenbach, which is pretty ridiculous melodic folky black metal and it's catchy as poo poo and definitely hitting the spot right now.

I know this question gets asked every once in a while, but I'm looking to start working on a patch jacket/hoodie and I need to know good places online for them, primarily in the realm of death/brutal death, black, grind, and thrash. I've already gotten a ton bookmarked from Hell's Headbangers and Dark Descent, but I know I'm missing some other good sources.

While we're on the topic of metal merch, I am looking for a Per Ohlin t-shirt. I need it within the week so I don't have time to have one printed. If anyone has a link to one it would be much appreciated. On a different note, I remember reading somewhere that Taake had some trouble getting into the US? Is that true?

Add the whole swastika-ordeal, and he's gonna have some trouble getting into the US. It's not like they can get a replacement for him. They did however play in Montreal earlier this year, so it might not be a problem at all.

Hey metal thread, I'm going to be in the US through February, is there a good gig guide website to see who's playing, or should I be looking for gig guides in each city I'm staying?

Sheizerbrick posted:Hey metal thread, I'm going to be in the US through February, is there a good gig guide website to see who's playing, or should I be looking for gig guides in each city I'm staying? You'll have to look in each city, and unfortunately it's not too easy to find guides. Some local zines/blogs/sites will cover certain cities, like this one for NYC: http://nycmetalscene.com/ - I'm not familiar with any outside of the NYC area though. It's often tough to find info without looking into the local scene unfortunately. There's also this guide to venues which is incomplete and needs some updates and research, but it covers some cities well if people from the areas contributed. Might be a bit out of date but it has some names/website links to check. http://www.metal-archives.com/board/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=90960
