RUSH: You have?

CALLER: Yes, I have. I was in the Coast Guard from '75 to '79. I made a trip to the winter north and the summer south. And let me tell you, if it's freezing down there in the summertime and they got stuck, I guess the ice is growing.

RUSH: Yeah, that is a fascinating observation. It is summertime in the southern hemisphere, and Antarctica's in the southern hemisphere, right?

CALLER: Yes, sir.

RUSH: And that would mean that it's theoretically not as cold down there in the summer as it is in the winter, and yet the ice is not melting. In fact, more of the planet is covered by ice today than -- I forget. None of it's melting.

CALLER: No.

RUSH: None of the global warming predictions are happening.

CALLER: I'll tell you, Rush, when we were down there breaking McMurdo Sound open to replenish the base we actually played football on the ice in T-shirts, and that was during the summertime.

RUSH: What was the outside temperature?

CALLER: Oh, I think it was like in the forties, fifties. It could get hot up there, you know, during the summertime every once in a while. But yet when I worked for the Navy down there I helped load a C-130 to supply the magnetic South Pole, the geographic South Pole --

RUSH: Right.

CALLER: -- and we couldn't get there because it was a whiteout.

RUSH: A whiteout?

CALLER: A whiteout.

RUSH: What do you mean, no black people?

CALLER: Yeah, the snowstorm was slamming at the South Pole.

Fun bit of trivia that would blow a dittohead's mind. One of their Polar Class Icebreakers, the USCGC Healy, is named after Captain Michael A. Healy the first black man to command a ship in the US Coast Guard; commissioned by President Lincoln himself. He was also one of the biggest supporters of native independence, maintaining the Alaskan subsistence lifestyle, and has the town outside of Denali National Park named after him.

Yeah.

So I wasn't disappointed today regarding the "Jesus Christ! It's freezing everywhere!" and "boats are stuck in ice!" therefore "there is no global warming" talking point popping up everywhere. But, knowing what little I do about climate science, isn't this exactly what climate change scientists believe(d) would/will happen? The ice melts, the cold air from the ice goes somewhere and then creates crazy fronts, tons of snow and general weather lunacy like what we're currently witnessing?

Have I got that about right or am I just brainwashed by the liberal media? Because this weather seems perfectly in line with the stuff I've read and seen on the topic.

Also, do you guys think it's time to start a new thread yet or are we OK for now?

Honestly Republicans have made such a mess of the matter socially I threw my hands up a long time ago and decided to just be content with "Vast majority of scientests say it's happening, and if you think the only thing that happens when global temperatures rise is that it anecdotally gets kinda hotter only in summer you can tell it walking".

It's easier to explain the concept of anecdotal evidence and then try and move into average temperatures if you're talking with someone whos is engaging honestly.

As the climate destabilizes, caused by human behaviour, we can expect to see more extreme weather patterns and events more frequently. That's the most global and general way to put the scientific consensus.

Yes, talk radio today was full of 'because there's recorded breaking cold for a few days in a limited part of the world global warming is a hoax' going on. Made me want to call into Rush or Cain and ask, 'so if someone signs up for Obamacare and/or their insurance rates go down does that mean Obamadontcare is a hoax?'

Funny moment of talk radio for me today touched on both those topics. During Herman Cain's 'Rapid Fire' segment a caller phoned in initially to bitch about global warming but then switched gears to Obamacare. Caller said that government should stay out of healthcare with one exception - cost. This was said with no trace of irony. Caller than proceeded to bitch about how expensive some procedure was for his dad.

Reminds me of this article I read yesterday:

quote:

To understand Kentucky's conflicted relationship with the federal government, 50 years after hosting President Johnson's launch of the "War on Poverty," is to meet Terry Rupe. The 63-year-old widower can't remember the last time he voted for a Democrat, and he's got nothing nice to say about President Obama. He's also never had health insurance, although he started working at age 9. Since his wife's death four years ago, he's been taking care of their 40-year-old, severely disabled daughter full time. She gets Medicaid and Medicare assistance.

"I don't have any use for the federal government," Rupe said, even though his household's $13,000 yearly income comes exclusively from Washington. "It's a bunch of liars, crooks, and thieves, and they've never done anything for me. I'm not ungrateful, but I don't have much faith in this health care law. Do I think it's going to work? No. Do I think it's going to bankrupt the country? Yes."

Rupe sounds like he could be standing on a soapbox at a tea-party rally, but he happens to be sitting in a back room at the Family Health Centers' largest clinic in Louisville—signing up for Medicaid. Rupe, who is white, insists that illegal immigrants from Mexico and Africa get more government assistance than he does. (Illegal immigrants do not, in fact, qualify for Medicaid or coverage under the Affordable Care Act.)

Shoebat, literally claiming blood libel against Muslims:

quote:

A nun in Germany has recently done a presentation in a conference of an independent investigation she conducted of the treatment of Christians in Syria under the hands of Muslim fundamentalists. She revealed that Muslims are butchering Christians, draining their blood in bottles, and selling each bottle for $100,000 to Muslims in Saudi Arabia who take it to wash their hands in Christian blood, with the belief that it atones for their sins.

Truly, Saudi Arabia is that “woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus” (Revelation 17:6), and the kings of the earth are fornicating with her, trading with this harlot the wine (oil) for the obliteration of the saints. This is why I ask you to donate now and save Christian lives.

I can't tell if this is plain ol' sour grapes, some weird lesbian crush manifesting itself through punditry, or just NRO being NRO, but good grief:

http://www.nationalreview.com/article/367610/rachels-show-eliana-johnson

quote:

MSNBC, the left-leaning cable-news network, has settled on one solution to its recent problems. It now has an executive reviewing scripts before they go on the air. The role, which has fallen to Rich Stockwell, a former executive producer of The Ed Show and Countdown with Keith Olbermann who now oversees special projects at the network, was created as several of the network’s hosts have, to the embarrassment of network brass, conducted a master class in political incorrectness. In recent months, Alec Baldwin, Martin Bashir, and, most recently, Melissa Harris-Perry have awkwardly crashed into the trinity of sexual orientation, gender, and race, leading many to wonder if there are any adults in charge at MSNBC.

There is one such adult, actually, and her name is Rachel Maddow. Though she provides the network’s ideological vision — MSNBC president Phil Griffin has called her “our quarterback” — she’s neither an executive nor a manager. Griffin, who wears both hats, is, from all appearances, letting the inmates run the asylum

quote:

Sources say it is Maddow rather than Phil Griffin who provides MSNBC’s editorial direction, and that she also holds considerable sway over personnel decisions. “I know I’m never going to get freakin’ talking points from Phil,” Maddow told The New Yorker last year. “Can you imagine? Like, what would they be?”

Behind her back, colleagues call her “the queen,” a not so subtle suggestion that Maddow gets what Maddow wants. And what she wants is a network filled with young wonks such as Chris Hayes, Ezra Klein, Alex Wagner, and Harris-Perry, whose highbrow intellectualism can, she hopes, push the Democratic party, and the country, to the left. On Twitter, Harris-Perry’s show proudly uses the hashtag #nerdland. Alex Wagner’s move to the 4 p.m. hour, where Bashir’s show once aired, has Maddow’s fingerprints on it.

quote:

Maddow, by contrast, is motivated by ideology. “If you debate for a living, you’re going to lose sometimes. Sometimes your preconceptions are wrong — that has never happened to her one time,” says a former colleague. “She is actually not that interested in reality; she is the most ideological person I’ve ever met. That is not somebody you want in charge of your programming, because she might put on a great show, but she cannot make rational decisions — her agenda is changing America. . . . She really thinks she is changing America for the better. You can’t have somebody like that in charge of your programming.”

Like the Democratic party itself, MSNBC is in transition. The party is no longer a coalition encompassing big labor, Hollywood, white ethnics, teachers’ unions, and minorities. Under President Obama, it has shed much of its blue-collar constituency while consolidating its gains among minorities, college-educated whites (women in particular), gays, and members of public-sector unions. A former MSNBC employee describes MSNBC’s transition this way: “When I worked there, it was axiomatic that all of our viewers were white — that’s what Phil Griffin said point blank. Rachel has decided to make a play for black viewers.” The New Yorker reported last year that MSNBC’s audience is now 30 percent African American.

quote:

So will this series of embarrassing public incidents induce NBC to make a change at the top at MSNBC and impose more discipline? Or will it allow Maddow’s ideological preferences to continue to define the channel?

“My life is better with every year of living it,” Maddow told Vanity Fair in 2012.

It’s good to be “queen” — to be a liberal paid millions by a publicly traded company to spread the progressive gospel. Rachel Maddow, striding about Rockefeller Plaza in her colored sneakers, may be the luckiest woman in television. For now.
