I know it's connected, but it's stupid to say that it's a one to one relationship. It was probably part opportunism and part vision of a new kind of horror movie. Who knows? Anyway, it's like an established field of film criticism and theory for like forty years. Goons did not just figure this out recently, nor do they have the most nuanced opinions on the topic. Fun bit of trivia that would blow a dittohead's mind. One of their Polar Class Icebreakers, the USCGC Healy, is named after Captain Michael A. Healy the first black man to command a ship in the US Coast Guard; commissioned by President Lincoln himself. He was also one of the biggest supporters of native independence, maintaining the Alaskan subsistence lifestyle, and has the town outside of Denali National Park named after him.

Yeah. So I wasn't disappointed today regarding the "Jesus Christ! It's freezing everywhere!" and "boats are stuck in ice!" therefore "there is no global warming" talking point popping up everywhere. But, knowing what little I do about climate science, isn't this exactly what climate change scientists believe(d) would/will happen? The ice melts, the cold air from the ice goes somewhere and then creates crazy fronts, tons of snow and general weather lunacy like what we're currently witnessing? Have I got that about right or am I just brainwashed by the liberal media? Because this weather seems perfectly in line with the stuff I've read and seen on the topic. Also, do you guys think it's time to start a new thread yet or are we OK for now?

Honestly Republicans have made such a mess of the matter socially I threw my hands up a long time ago and decided to just be content with "Vast majority of scientests say it's happening, and if you think the only thing that happens when global temperatures rise is that it anecdotally gets kinda hotter only in summer you can tell it walking". It's easier to explain the concept of anecdotal evidence and then try and move into average temperatures if you're talking with someone whos is engaging honestly.

As the climate destabilizes, caused by human behaviour, we can expect to see more extreme weather patterns and events more frequently. That's the most global and general way to put the scientific consensus.

Yes, talk radio today was full of 'because there's recorded breaking cold for a few days in a limited part of the world global warming is a hoax' going on. Made me want to call into Rush or Cain and ask, 'so if someone signs up for Obamacare and/or their insurance rates go down does that mean Obamadontcare is a hoax?' Funny moment of talk radio for me today touched on both those topics. During Herman Cain's 'Rapid Fire' segment a caller phoned in initially to bitch about global warming but then switched gears to Obamacare. Caller said that government should stay out of healthcare with one exception - cost. This was said with no trace of irony. Caller than proceeded to bitch about how expensive some procedure was for his dad.

Reminds me of this article I read yesterday: quote:To understand Kentucky's conflicted relationship with the federal government, 50 years after hosting President Johnson's launch of the "War on Poverty," is to meet Terry Rupe. The 63-year-old widower can't remember the last time he voted for a Democrat, and he's got nothing nice to say about President Obama. He's also never had health insurance, although he started working at age 9. Since his wife's death four years ago, he's been taking care of their 40-year-old, severely disabled daughter full time. She gets Medicaid and Medicare assistance.

I can't tell if this is plain ol' sour grapes, some weird lesbian crush manifesting itself through punditry, or just NRO being NRO, but good grief: http://www.nationalreview.com/article/367610/rachels-show-eliana-johnson quote:MSNBC, the left-leaning cable-news network, has settled on one solution to its recent problems. It now has an executive reviewing scripts before they go on the air. The role, which has fallen to Rich Stockwell, a former executive producer of The Ed Show and Countdown with Keith Olbermann who now oversees special projects at the network, was created as several of the network’s hosts have, to the embarrassment of network brass, conducted a master class in political incorrectness. In recent months, Alec Baldwin, Martin Bashir, and, most recently, Melissa Harris-Perry have awkwardly crashed into the trinity of sexual orientation, gender, and race, leading many to wonder if there are any adults in charge at MSNBC. quote:Sources say it is Maddow rather than Phil Griffin who provides MSNBC’s editorial direction, and that she also holds considerable sway over personnel decisions. “I know I’m never going to get freakin’ talking points from Phil,” Maddow told The New Yorker last year. “Can you imagine? Like, what would they be?” quote:Maddow, by contrast, is motivated by ideology. “If you debate for a living, you’re going to lose sometimes. Sometimes your preconceptions are wrong — that has never happened to her one time,” says a former colleague. “She is actually not that interested in reality; she is the most ideological person I’ve ever met. That is not somebody you want in charge of your programming, because she might put on a great show, but she cannot make rational decisions — her agenda is changing America. . . . She really thinks she is changing America for the better. You can’t have somebody like that in charge of your programming.” quote:So will this series of embarrassing public incidents induce NBC to make a change at the top at MSNBC and impose more discipline? Or will it allow Maddow’s ideological preferences to continue to define the channel?
