I also want to buy Argent, but the 30 dollars shipping fee because I'm not in the US is making me wince enormously, even if it's understandable. I have 50 bucks, not 80. It's too bad, the game looked really, really cool. Oh well. Woes of Canada and all that.

I received my copy of Rivet Wars tonight. They glued all of the models to their bases so some of them are going to be a bitch to paint.

How are the mold lines?

Not bad at all - there are a couple that are noticeable on the legs of the walker, but the majority of the models have very few, if any, mold lines that you can see. Note that they are dark green and grey, and I am looking at them at night and not under natural light, so I may be missing something, though I think they are pretty clean. There are a few tags where you can see some parts were not removed from the sprue cleanly, so it looks like some minor cleanup will be in order - certainly nothing major though. From the reading I did, it appears that the models are similar to the Super Dungeon Explore models in that they are fully assembled and glued to their bases. I'll really have to sit down and look at the models to determine whether or not I think it will be worth trying to paint the models, or if I should just try to sell the set and cut my losses...

Hey guys. Sorry I haven't posted here in a bit, been a busy bee. I'm sure those of you who backed Deck of Legends already saw the update about the current state of the project and about the delay before shipping. I do have another small thing going on right now on this cool new site Patreon. Pretty much I'm doing packs of images that people can use for their projects whether their commercial or personal. All stuff meant for rpgs and gaming. Packs are planned to go up every two weeks and each will have a theme. The first pack is winter and it will be going live today (1/8). Patreon is kind of like a subscription service with micropayments. You can toss a dollar or two at it and that is how much you will pay for each pack of 7-10 images. It takes paypal. Here is the link if anyone is interested in supporting such a thing. http://www.patreon.com/thedandmom and here are some little previews of the first pack.

I have seen lot of public complaints from board gamers who picked up SDE and then never played it because they didn't realize how much time would be needed to put the models together. I don't think they had a choice, really, unless they shifted their target for these games further away from board gamers. I wouldn't be surprised if most of the games have more people that play them and never paint the minis (even if they originally intended to) than those that go through the full effort, especially when they can't even play one round without putting hours in and investing in tools to glue before seeing if they really like the $100 game they just picked up.

And I completely agree with that. Unfortunately, the KS sold the project with painted photos of the models - while not impossible to do, it is going to be pretty difficult for some models. As a modeler and painter, I'm kind of bummed about it.

I feel like Deadzone is kind of the same way, it took me several days to assemble all the minis (some having obscenely small parts, having 3-5 parts per model, etc) and then after a few coats of primer said gently caress it and STILL haven't primed or assembled the terrain. I might get the terrain done by the time the second shipment arrives but there's no way in hell I'm also painting the minis after all this, and Deadzone is definitely more of a board game than a minis game (considering everything is measured in the squares on the board/mat).

I ended up pledging for Shadows of Brimstone a while back, and I decided to check in on it- the last update was in early december. That was fine with me, Flying Frog isn't a fly by night company, and with a staff that seems to just be three people, more or less, them being busy + holidays seemed pretty reasonable. I highly doubt they won't be able to deliver. But the whole comment page is/was full of people threatening Flying Frog with credit card chargeback, exaggerated claims of how they'll sue if they don't get more updates, and people getting stalkerish and finding out the designer's personal phone number, email, address, etc. And calling him up, demanding more updates. He finally got on earlier today in the comments to answer a few questions and explain the workload they're currently under. But christ, I don't get some of these people's obsession. Taking a few weeks off, and not even off, just working and spending time with family, does not mean they've run away with their money.

This sort of thing has happened a couple of times lately. Audience reactions like this will only serve to make creators less likely to want to engage with an audience, so this stalking behavior and general shitassedness is really pissing in the pool for future kickstarters.

Like a champ: World of Calidar has entered its final two days. If you liked the old Voyage of the Princess Ark series in Dragon Magazine or remember any of the old Known World Gazetteers, this is the man to go to and he's delivering more of the same with the benefits of experience. The only question it's facing is whether it makes its final stretch goal.

The General posted:There must have been an easier way to say "You get this many dice with your donation" It's one of the worst-worded kickstarters ever. Basically you get "points," which they call picks, to assign to various things, and some things cost more points than others. If you want a set, the important thing to know is that 11 picks gets you a complete set of all 18 dice.

It's also the part where foreign shipping of those zocchi dice gets... well, kind of stupid. As in it would cost me upwards of eighty dollars, even if regular freight is fourty, just to get my hands on the dice after paying the shipping cost to my country. So I guess this kickstarter might be useful for international buyers assuming that the people running it know what they're doing, and what with their overcomplicated order system I wouldn't be optimistic.

They're not precision edged like casino dice, but in-between them and the rounded edges you see on Chessex dice. I find they're a great compromise and roll very well on your average tabletop.

For what it's worth, I backed their previous dice campaign (the d14 / d18 campaign) and their Big Lebowski minis campaign, and they did just fine with both. Understand that Impact Minis is basically two guys in a garage in Indiana and that one of them suffers from health problems that any delay might be blamed on, but I don't have any doubt that they'll be able to complete this campaign and deliver the dice they're making. I guess I must be the only gamer out there that wants the complete set. Sure, I'll never NEED them, but if I ever do, I'll HAVE them. Now to just track down a red and a blue d34 to complete the set...
