Are any of the classic SMT games like MT1&2 or the SMT 1, 2 and if... on the JPN PSN? Will Atlus ever remake any of the older games for the new generation?

I'm pretty sure 1, 2 and if... are there (they are also available on smartphones). MT1/2/Kyuu aren't, because they were never ported to the PS1.

They would have to remake the games to not be dated as hell, because early SMT games feature so much terrible dungeon design for the sake of elongation that they are just not worth playing. That and the dated first-person dungeon crawling and mechanics not being very refined.

Too bad even more people would pay for a new Persona game and a 3DS port.

I don't know, how did Soul Hackers do? Worse case scenario, a translation of the mobile port or a 3DS e-shop release or something. I'd play it, outdated gameplay and all.

In the SMTIV thread OP, it mentions that accepting the quest to free Blasted Shibuya is not only +5 Law but unlisted. Yet in the FAQ I see:
"When in Blasted Shinjuku, being offered Akira & Kiyoharu's quest..
* Alignment +1 = Accept it (pretty much required)"

Is this a contradiction, or are they referring to different things?

I think it would. Soul Hackers got slammed for being dated and it is infinitely less dated than SMT1 and 2.

They're referring to two different quests.

I might get it, but will they keep the Terminals as save points or let you save anywhere like in SH with that one COMP add-on?

Personally, I would like it more if they just let you at least quick save anywhere, it's not like SMT2 is that hard. :v:

While I'm not sure if I'd bother going through SMT 1 & 2 if they were introduced to the west, I'd totally go for super-enhanced remakes of them. I'm talking modernized gameplay, press turn, and even 3D graphics if Atlus decided to bother. Or they could give us Nocturne HD. That's good too.

I wonder if it would be more crazy or less crazy than Maken X.

Good for you, this game is fantastic. I'm supposed to be going off to fight the final boss but I'm grinding heavily, partly because I want to see the ultimate Personas, and partly because I don't want to let this game go.

Doesn't Eternal Punishment PSX have a surprisingly passable translation? I know that the characters from P1 have their original Americanized names, and that's the only major change I'm aware of. There's a new scenario in the PSP version where you see what Tatsuya's up to, but you should wait until you've finished everything else and then read a script translation.

Yeah, there is some extra stuff in ReP which is why I bought it. I speak Japanese so the translation wasn't really my sticking point anyway, more so the streamlined mechanics and prettyfied art. Also, widescreen.

Battle system [for P2] seems good at first, just give it ten more hours and you'll be bored outta your mind. It's way too sluggish and there's not much in the way of strategy outside of using your best fusions and grinding out cards. The only thing I can give the games is that the original PSX versions at least have some difficulty to them, which is something I can't say for a lot of boring, easy mode JRPGs of yesteryear.

It's not that the battle system is boring. It's just that the game is oddly really easy and balanced heavily in favor of the player. You don't need to master all these obscure systems or get every Persona, the game's difficulty curve just kinda breaks down after about halfway in. I could easily take the last boss at level 62 or so, whatever he's got. Unless it's a she like P1.

It's a perfectly fine translation and definitely should not be a deterrence towards finishing the two games.

Better than that in the PSP game Jean De'Arc (it's pretty great as FF tactics clones go), old Gilles was a main party member.

Uh, did I encounter some kind of bug in SMTIV? I just tagged along with Walter after learning Gabby's true identity so I'm not going to wind up killing Lilith, and I can't seem to go into Ichigaya (the tunnel is blocked off). Near as I can work out there shouldn't be anything I have to do between going there and where I am.

It's really good, I think, but stylistically it's wildly different from how later games in the series have been translated. While personally I like it better (probably because I played it first) it's going to be very much not what someone playing it for the first time is used to. So, just keep that in mind.

Sorry, more SMTIV alignment crap (can't wait to get locked in so I don't have to worry about this anymore). Are both the FAQ and the thread OP missing this decision? It's not in the FAQ's list, but it is in the general walkthrough:

"I won't reveal much about the conversation, but, within, you are asked a question by Tayama. How do you respond?
*Alignment -1 = I see no issue
*Alignment +5 = It is a bit vexing"

Really wish there was hard, numerical alignment value you could constantly check in your menu. I dunno, make it an app or something. Probably my only real complaint about the game.

There's still a pretty dedicated fanbase to the main line and non-Persona spin-offs though. Enough to bring over pretty much all the games at the very least. I mean sure they don't pull Persona money but it's not super mega niche, and Persona's visibility gets a lot of people to try the other games as well.

So I'm playing Innocent Sin!

So far, I am completely and utterly hooked. I can't believe I'm saying this but this might be my favorite game in the entire series already. While the battles aren't as strategic as they are in 3/4 due to the lack of press turns, I still think they are amazingly awesome. The playing field, with characters that move around and attacks that are affected by range? So cool. I now know where the one cool thing in Final Fantasy 13 comes from. I actually watch the battles in this game instead of putting them on skip and setting my Vita down like I did for Persona 1. Fusion spells really introduce an awesome turn order strategy, which is welcomed.

The characters are so far great, even if the voice acting is a little bit over the top (T: Look into my eyes....). Not to mention Lisa's Cantonese. The thing with this is that I actually didn't hate the characters in P1 so it's really, really awesome to see them in an actually engaging story/universe. Yukino is awesome, And seeing even side characters return makes it really clear the people writing both care about their universe and have a great sense of fun.

So far I'm loving the game to death. It really, really is a shame that the Eternal punishment remake never made it to the states. I thankfully have a Japanese copy, but still.

Anyway, Persona 2 actually is awesome and everyone should play it is my point.

Yesssss P2 is amazing and I would throw all my :10bux: for more things featuring those characters.

And yes to some TANKINO love :hfive: Serious, Yukino has insane VIT, especially if you abuse the "+1 to VIT at level up" accessory. She also has the best Shadow confrontation in the series imo and is just a great character Then again, everyone's a great character. Micheal :allears:

Also, I don't know if it was changed for the remake but the original had an absurdly easy difficulty curve. I managed to get through the entire game with story provided Personas +a low level Fairy Persona and some level 12 thing

I'm only at Mu so far but I haven't even gone to the velvet room yet and I'm pummeling enemies with relative ease.

The only thing that is kind of silly is the absurd encounter rate, but I like the battles so it's not actually a problem. The only thing I explicitly don't like about the game is that Tatsuya's walk speed is so absurdly fast and the controls so touchy that I can't really walk in a straight line very well. He controls like a crack-addicted 5 year old driving a Go-Cart.
