Bloody Pom posted:So I just spent the weekend powering through the SEED remaster. It... wasn't as bad as I was expecting. I legitimately enjoyed most of it. If this is the one where it's kind of a retelling solely from the perspective of Athrun, it's... better. But not really that much better. It gives Athrun a few more scenes of him actually *doing stuff* like fighting the druggies before Impulse shows up at the very beginning.

I just think it's funny Fukuda and Morosawa say that Destiny is supposed to be from Athrun's prospective.

Nope, it's the remastered series that's nearing the end of its run. It's too late to turn back now, I've committed myself to suffering through it. I don't know, both the Zaku Amazing/Build Strike and the SD Knight/Bearguy III fight are just as good, if not better, if for different reasons in the case of the later. That's more a show of how good some of the fights are than a condemnation of this one though.

That dates back to the ZZ Gundam, though. Well, the RX-78 would split apart too, but the core fighter was more of an escape mechanism rather than forming independent vehicles. Except when it did split into two separate vehicles. But the universal century is a revisionist history and there's no room for the G-Bull and G-Fighter.

Oh God, the remaster looks so much worse. I can't stand Hirai faces and that's a big part of the reason why SEED is near unwatchable for me. I'm actually not sure if the series or movies are canon, although they did have numbered Guncannons in a museum in Zeta, so I'm guessing its the movies.

The real answer to "Which is canon?" is "It doesn't matter," since ultimately the outcomes are mostly the same, and both the TV series and movies are referenced, teased, and easter-egged.

Yeah, they're pretty much the same except one has the G-Fighter, G-Bull and Gundam Hammer, and the other has core boosters. It's not like Zeta: A New Translation where they make any substantial storyline changes.

The real disappointment with Destiny HD is how it hasn't retconned anything though. It's just as boring as the original, they even brought back the clipshows.

No, actually, SEED Destiny HD retconned that back. The SEED D movies changed it to emphasized Kira could not have killed Shin's family but the Destiny HD put the ambiguous shots back in.

It's also been said before, but if Gundam SEED actually looked like the image on the left instead of the image on the right, I might be able to actually sit through more than a couple episodes. It's nuts that the "remaster" makes it look worse. The off-model picture has a face and head that isn't horribly misshapen and actually shows emotion. Maybe it's uncanny valley or something, but the faces just look so hosed up and weird. The blank expressions mixed with widely spaced eyes seriously makes it look like the characters honest to god have downs. And given how the characters act, well... that doesn't help.

Usually its a reference to robotics and 3d animation, but I get the same sensation here. Looking at the picture on the right gives me the same disturbing shudders as looking at a real doll. It varies from person to person I suppose.

I know what you mean, honestly. There's something wrong with his mouth in particular. In the left image he looks like he's shouting in anger but in the right image it's just... hanging open for some reason.

It's like they started by designing the big fancy wings and then called it a day. The Aile Pack actually looks like it would get the Strike Gundam off the ground with those honking great booster engines, and it's a nice touch that it doesn't get enough lift to make it fly while on Earth .
