Well, maybe I'll polish it up. I'm about 6 months behind on the ongoing. Gimme a day or two.

You might be right, but I think it could work. IDW has been releasing really good stuff as of late. I picked up the first classic collection not too long ago, and this would be a good excuse to finally read it. Hakkesshu fucked around with this message at 22:00 on Jan 30, 2014 |

My favourite version of the TMNT is still Michael Zulli's 1990/91 version: Zulli also did the art on the unpublished issue of Swamp Thing where Swampy met Jesus which was was cancelled when the DC president thought it was too inflammatory, which led to writer Rick Veitch quitting the company.

I don't think that's actually in the single issues, 'cause I've never seen it. It might be a trade-only thing. But yes, cutting off dicks is a major plot point in that book regardless. I still think it's the single best comic of like the past 5 years. The only bad thing about it is that James Stokoe is becoming the George RR Martin of the comics world in terms of how long it takes for him to put out new poo poo. Orc Stain looks nice and has a great setting, but I found it to be kind of dull and poorly written, like most 'written-and-illustrated-by' comics. Dicks are great though, don't be a loser.

Not that I don't agree with your premise, obviously, but Bendis was never a particularly good artist. For more though: Matt Wagner, Moebius, Brandon Graham, Alison Bechdel, Jeff Smith, Art Spiegelman, Paul Pope, Sergio Aragones, Eddie Campbell and, like, every indie comics dude or lady from the past however many years. edit: and Howard Chaykin and David Mazzuchelli and Katsuhiro Otomo and Jon Lewis and Jules Pfeiffer and like a zillion more I'm forgetting Uncle Boogeyman fucked around with this message at 04:31 on Jan 31, 2014 |

I'm just going to gush over the fact that Mike Mignola is, IMHO, one of the preeminent storytellers of the medium who just so happens to be an excellent artist as well as writer. While he got scripting help from John Byrne on his first Hellboy story, his follow-up Wake the Devil was a spine-chillingly powerful debut as sole writer and exhibited a really surprising and enviable grasp for writing, far more sophisticated than what you'd expect for what was technically his freshman effort. He's only gotten better ever since; much of his early work was buoyed by his own first-rate artistic style, but as he's progressed and passed the artistic duties onto his collaborators, you can see how his refined sense of character and plotting rose to the forefront. Seriously, if you wanted to see a masterful confluence of artistic composition supported by expert tone and pacing, look no further than Mignola's Hellboy. That argument is really low hanging fruit, though.
