I upgraded to an iPhone 5S last week (on Next) but I've been regretting my color choice. I bought it at a corporate store and I'm still within the exchange period; should I expect a restocking fee if I exchange?

While I'm at it, I'm a GTF at University of Oregon and I hear we are eligible for a discount. Is there a way to see how much it is before I commit and lose my old one?

You will have a $35 restock fee. You can always add a discount on at any time so yes.

Why has the price of new in box iPhone 5Ss gone down so much on ebay relative to what the newest iphone normally goes for? Looking like they are around $500 instead of the $600 previous ones have gone for.

Yeah but why is it different than what seems like every other generation has gone for? People have always had the same complaints about the phone not being anything new just like this one, so I'm wondering if AT&T is doing something new. Sounds like an insurance claim honestly.

I had a customer walk out the door, immediately trip on the sidewalk not 2 feet from the door, and shatter her phone. It was hilarious, and she was very happy I convinced her to get insurance.

ATT made most people eligible for Next plans so for the next few months most people who lose phones are just walking in and upgrading. Otherwise no big conspiracy or anything, it's just competition because of tmobile. Good for everyone really.

We switched from Sprint and signed up for a 4GB mobile share plan, $70/mo for data plus $40/line in contract (total 70+160=230). I just called customer support and was told that the 10GB data plan is $100, plus a per-line fee of $30/mo in contract (total 100+120=220). This sounded like a great move so I asked the support rep to make the change.

However, the myAT&T app now shows that my rate plan is $260/mo. Do you have any info on whether I was lied to or if it's just going to take a while to show up properly on the website? I want to make sure I don't get screwed on my next bill.

Given that they specifically talk about using a credit system here, I'm guessing the latter. It ties in pretty well with things like sponsored data.

Edit: Specifically, note that if data is not permitted, you get fewer credits back. It's basically rate-limiting for non-approved (or non-partnered) data sources.

I have an 18% discount through my employer but the rep told me that the bill, both pre- and post-discount, would decrease by switching from 4GB to 10GB. The pre-discount amount jumped from $230 to $260 though which will result in a higher bill.

Ask me about shrimp.
For some odd reason, one of my two Mobile Share Value lines had a two year contract on it (So paying 40/month instead of 25/month, even though we bought our own phone). Called customer service and asked about that and the $100 credit for activating a new line. Was told nothing they can do about either and to go to a store about it. Went to the store closest (Big store in a mall) to us. After asking a sales rep about it, she bought us to a manager that said we needed to call customer service about the issue. When I said we had, she said there is nothing she could do, but she'll look.

After all said and done, she got it. Her exact words were "They gave me a button I didn't know I had before." Nothing too wrong with that on it's face, but she seemed really pissy and annoyed about the whole thing, and confirmed she could do nothing about the $100 credit, even with the 14 day price protection. Anyway, my wife has been wanting to try out a iPhone 5S for a while (Well, iOS in general. She has a N5, but just wants to see how iOS is). So we go into the store a little later and inquire about getting the 5S on the next program on her line (we took the contract that wasn't supposed to be there off my line). The sales lady told me "You know that puts the line on contract, right? So you want me to redo what we just undid?"

Aside from that being technically wrong, she was pretty bitchy about it, so we said never mind and left. gently caress giving her commission; might seem like a dick thing to say, but jesus, try being a little more nice to your loving customers. Probably going to just do it online now, as there are not any other ATT stores around me for quite a distance.

ATT basically closed a snag with the new plans today where the 10GB plans were higher than the old ones with 4+ lines. They did it surprisingly aggressively and overall a lot of people will benefit.

The biggest snag yet is the new plans are still more for individual lines, so customers with old one line plans still don't have an incentive to switch. Honestly that's the only downside now.

FYI everyone: even if you are in a 2 year contract, as long as that contract was signed before February 2nd if you move to the mobile share 10Gb plan, your line is $15 a month, not $40. I'm moving mine over today to confirm directly that that is true.

To the person saying you were misquoted, recheck once the system refreshes today, it should be good starting February 2nd.

It shows up on audit. And if its not noted correctly its big points. And some Area managers and even VPGMs get all lovely about doing it.

BUT! If the manager "fixing it" or whatever actually notes the account correctly its not a big deal in any way shape or form and it sounds like whoever he talked to is a oval office.

Yes, if you go to the change rate plan page on myAT&T you can get off-contract pricing for the whole family. Phone reps can't swap it until tonight, apparently.

You're still in contract and eligibility for upgrades/Next doesn't change. And once you make the swap, you are ineligible for any more subsidized phones--full retail or Next only.

I'm not seeing that verbiage on the AT&T site, and now it's showing $40/mo in contract or $15/mo out of contract. It's definitely uneconomical, though.

However, the phone rep I spoke to this morning said ineligible. No more subsidized phones and no more contracts. He explained in nicer terms that AT&T is doing me a favor by giving me off-contract pricing of $160 for 4 lines + 10GB, and the discount price means we're going to pay full retail or submit to Next in the future.

e: Beefstorm, in your experience, what options do I have as a customer with all the misinformation floating around? We just switched from $230 with 4GB to $160 with 10GB, but I'm afraid that some system update is going to push our rate plan up to 100+40+40+40+40=260/month. Is "the phone rep told me it would be $160, I want you to honor that" a good defense?

Is the 10 GB/month eligiable with premier? And if it is, is the discount (25% for me) applied to the whole $130 in this case?

I'm trying to see if it would be cheaper to go with the 6GB like I have now for $110 a month, or the 10GB plan.

Any premier discounts only apply to the data charge ($100), the per-device charges are not discounted.

In you case, assuming you have 2 lines, the charges would be $100(data) - $25(discount) + 15 + 15 = $105

These new plans are really competitive. With my company's 20% discount and assuming 15% taxes it breaks out to be about $48 after tax for 3 lines and $40 with 4. Down to $36 with 5! Throwing the in-laws on my plan would likely still keep us way under the 10 gigs. I'm the biggest data hog and back when I had unlimited I still would cap out around 4gb streaming pandora every day (which I don't do these days). The whole economics thing gets blown out of the water though if someone wants to get a new subsidized phone. Is AT&T next just a way to pay for a full phone outright and spread it over the 24 months? Is there a fee for the program or is it basically a 0% loan? That would be a good way for the grandparents to get their phone kick without a kick in the pants.

My understanding is Next is a 0% loan spread over either 20 or 26 months with an option to upgrade early. Next 12 spreads the cost of the phone over 20 months, but after 12 months you can give the phone back, have all remaining payments forgiven, and start a new 20-month installment plan. Next 18 has 26 payments and lets you upgrade after 18 months. Both Next plans also waive the $36 upgrade/activation charge so that's a plus. I'm not sure where sales tax comes in (if it's spread out or billed upfront) but you are essentially separating the phone payment from the wireless service.

If you're looking for a cheaper phone you can always try http://www.swappa.com and grab a mint condition AT&T or unlocked phone.

So for the last year I've had a 10Gb shared account with 7 smartphone lines and a 20% discount. Everyone I believe is pretty happy with their existing phones, so I'm wondering if it's worth making any changes right now. The drop to $15 sounds enticing of course, but I'm not sure if we'd regret it later since we'd likely be forced into NEXT knowing everyone's finances. I'm probably the only one that would consider paying up front for a phone. I'll have to ping the group and see. This is probably a dumb question but if we move to NEXT all of our existing phones stay ours right since they were associated with the standard 2 year contract?
