If Doctor Who was a comic book, it would be a bad comic book. The sheer amount of hand-wavey bullshit involved in the resolution of most episodes is extreme even for comics.

So I'll keep talking poo poo about Doctor Who, because there are plenty of superhero comics with far better writing on average.

They seem really afraid to alienate any part of the audience that likes Nick Fury so they constantly have him jump through these mental, and moral gymnastic exercises to justify why the character isn't as much of a piece of poo poo as he seems to be and it really spoils the tension between The Avengers and S.H.I.E.L.D. and the World Security Council.

That's why Captain America pretty much has to break the mold and start introducing some serious moral complications into the MCU unless all Marvel wants to do is see just how far the fanboy "I'll see it anyway" dollar stretches. It almost certainly won't introduce any complications, of course. At most I'm betting it'll be a few rogue agents or a rogue faction within SHIELD whilst SHIELD itself remains upstanding and good. Still, it'd be nice if it did.

There are essentially like 3 characters that Arrow explicitly can't use in the DC Universe. Supes, Bats, WW.

Any one else is fair game.

If you think Agents of Shield which is explicitly tied to the Marvel Movie Universe has that level of freedom you are crazy. Why waste some character in a TV show when you might be able to A. Make a movie about them and make billions, or B. Make that character it's own TV show.

Agents of Shield's writing isn't good by any stretch(Getting a bit better though in the back half of the season). But the controlling nature of Marvel over the TV show prevents it from dropping reference after reference like Arrow does. DC does not give a poo poo about Arrow as long as it doesn't touch those 3 characters.

Dude, can you read? I literally said that the core problem with AoS wasn't the fact that they can't use Marvel characters. I understand exactly why executives mandate they can't use anything, even if I didn't explicitly say so. I'm just saying that it really doesn't help, since fencing off some poo poo exclusively for the TV show (even if it means *gasp* mandating they retcon something if they give a character who first appeared on AoS their own show/movie), would go a long way into at least making the show stand out as unique and worthwhile. If nothing else it'd capture the lower substrates of fandom who literally don't give a crap about quality so long as they recognize the characters involved.

Worse in my opinion. The Bat-Embargo did mean that a lot of cool stuff couldn't be used (and Aquaman, for a while), but it forced the guys writing JLU to focus on lesser-known characters and villains and the show was much richer for it. Whatever they've got going on with AoS is by contrast suffocating the show's potential to be anything other than a bad NCIS knock-off (and NCIS is pretty garbage to begin with).

Because you can always put some other version in the movie and who really cares if it's in the TV show? There's no reason AoM shouldn't be mining the Z-pile for characters like Foolkiller, Jennifer Kale, Howard the Duck, or pretty much any character from Man-Thing. Hell, at the very least start using AIM or Secret Empire, it's not like overlapping with the TV show will mean anything when the movie producers decide they really gotta have a MODOK.

It's most likely because since Marvel wants to make this whole shared universe thing, but also make movies first and foremost, they want to make sure no character or story gets used on AoS that might preclude that character's appearance in a movie by a different actor later. This shouldn't be a big problem, but nerds/Marvel is weird.

Oh yeah, him and the Iron Man C-Lister (how lame do you have to be to be on Iron Man's C-List?) Blizzard as a civilian. That's still not much of anything for most of a season, especially when you consider how minimal most of those characters have been so far.

I also hate hate HATE the roster of characters they've got on AoS and what I've seen done with them so far, so unless the writing has truly turned a complete 180 (which it hasn't, no show is that good), I will probably never go back to it.

Most of the marketing has him masked, so I think it's supposed to be a surprise to some extent. But the way Widow's talking in that trailer makes me think Steve's going to know from square one who he's dealing with. And that makes sense, in the original story, he's pretty sure it's Bucky from early on.

They aren't hiding his face at all, so an astute viewer can see his face and recognize him, but since he was a relatively minor character in the first movie (I still hate that his arc of having to play second fiddle to Steve after years of the opposite went nowhere) and has completely different hair my guess is that most casual viewers won't know.
