We had a team that picked their own software for an EPoS system backend, all we did was make servers available for the guys that installed it. Didn't stop us getting tickets from the group asking how to use it. We just sent them back the link for the training that the vendor offered that was turned down. If the app's not working then it's a helpdesk issue, if you can't work it then it really isn't. Helpdesk aren't the "figure out how it works and then present this information to you in a way you can understand" department, especially as the figuring out part comes from clicking logical sounding items until the desired result appears. A skill which nobody should be proud of not possessing.

So, if you've been reading the ticket thread, you know i'm in wales right now. What you probably don't know is that the data conversion guy is a loving rear end in a top hat who has taken the better part of two days to do his part of the job. It got to monday (it should have been done yesterday) and we asked a guy back at the office to do it. It took him an hour and a half. All the data guy has to do is implement it. I'm still loving waiting.

Having to call someone for a call number every day. Then with this call number I can call some helpdesk with horrible waiting times to get a token number to log in a server to do maintenance/changes on software. It logs you off after one/two hours.

I bought a couple of BD burners so I can rip them and watch them over my home network. The discs just sit on a shelf.

I don't know why you'd spend more for a burner, but I do this. I have Blu-rays and HD-DVDs, but I never actually play them as intended. Ultimately if there was a legal way to simply get a high quality file as if you'd ripped it yourself for a low price, that would be thoroughly reasonable. As it stands, if you want a good quality copy of a film, you have to buy a chunk of plastic and have it mailed to your house and copy the contents to your machine. Which is utterly ludicrous..

Planning and meeting for the domain controller upgrade continues, and the more I spend looking at certificate services, the more I hate whoever put it in place in our network. Not only was the root CA a domain controller, it's also the FSMO holder, and they named the cert after the server itself. It was pushed out via GPO to everything in the domain, but then I went looking for what was actually using the cert. Here's a list!code:
