Managing your own mods is pretty easy, you just keep the zip files of all the mods you want in your starbound/mods directory, unzip them when you want to activate them, delete the folders when you want to uninstall them. It could easily be automated, but I don't see the point at this stage.

So today we spent our Sunday having a long (5 hours!) design discussion in which we are pencilling in the finer details of the games progression.

As we said before, the current progression is entirely temporary, existing to provide temporary gameplay whilst we work on the engine. Today I want to share more with you about the games new structure and the beginning of the game.

First of all we’re removing the different universe sectors. In the final game there will be only three sectors. The sector the majority of the game takes place in, a pvp sector and a creative sector without dangers.

Instead of progressing through the game sector by sector, you’ll advance by upgrading your tech to allow you to visit planets that were otherwise inaccessible due to hazards. An example being a planet with no breathable air. Progression will be less linear and more akin to the kind of progression you find in modern metroidvanias.

We’re building the game with 3 main paths of progression that branch off later on. Farming, adventuring and building. We want players to be able to advance through the game whilst doing whatever they enjoy most.

At the beginning of the game (what would be the alpha sector in the current progression) you start on a ship with a broken fuel module, giving you access to only one planet. Through a series of quests you’re taught how to farm, find trophies in dungeons and build the beginnings of a settlement. Completing these quests will give you the pixels you need to use your ships 3d printer to produce a new fuel module. Which in turn allows progression to the other planets in your current solar system.

At this stage were introducing a new planet type called an outpost. A small and safe planet populated by members of every race. A safe haven for trade and quest taking. You’ll learn how to generate pixels through selling crops, taking quests, selling trophies found in dungeons and renting out houses in your settlement.

From here each of these roles will expand outwards as you progress (for example animal farming becomes an optional part of the farming progression).

I decided to make stuff like tar, slime and so forth useful while I was at it by making you able to crush them down into reagents. No more just throwing out piles of 1,000 slime stacks!

Hey, I like your Block Replicator and wanted to throw an idea at you: can you make one for seeds and one for tree saplings (or one for both together)? Trying to build seedbanks, especially tree ones, is pretty frustrating.

The codex stuff I wrote for them is literally that they don't have to worry about dying so instead of being all stuffy like Tokienien elves they want to see as much rad poo poo as they ever can across the entire universe, because they have the time.

I might have them partially explode while respawning...

Of all the ways they could have gone, I'm glad this is where they're taking the main game. Being able to expand not just combat but also farming/building is a great mechanic that I wish Terraria would have considered. The idea of quest hubs and "settled" outpost planets where you can just mingle, shop, and take quests really appeals to me.

Other than that, what catches my eye the most is the idea of dungeon "trophies". As a long-time video game hoarder, this is my jam.

Oh man this all sounds incredible. I love the fact that you can just move between story progression, PVP, and safe sandbox depending on what you feel like doing.

Yeah, definitely. Once things settle down a bit in the game I'm definitely going to have a hoarder-esque bunker full of knick-knacks.

Hey, did this mod ever get anywhere? I did a quick search and it seems like the dude last posted a little under three months ago, and his last update was starting to write the flavor text.
I tried my hand at making a custom gun with new sprites, and it was actually pretty fun to do. If this hasn't gotten anywhere and/or the maker kind of vanished, would it be bad form if I nicked the names (with full credit to Arsonide and company, of course) and started tweaking with my own take on a gun-crafting mod?

There needs to be blocks in the background. Water drains out the back without them.

Also, not all rainstorms cause accumulation. Watch it, if the rain visibly blobs up, then it can accumulate. There are lower intensity storms in which that doesn't happen.

Yeah, I've got a complete background, even into behind the foreground walls. Block type changes from cobblestone to glass along the bottom and it's closed by a gate, but I had a dirt-and-wood-enclosed garden closed by a gate that used to gather water.

Make a morph ball tech, but make it turn you into a skull instead of a ball and have a fading bone trail particle effect when moving. Then you can roll them bones all proper like.
