I hate it when podcasts blue ball the listener.

On the latest Steve Austin podcast he interviews William Regal. At one point he asks Regal his thoughts on Savage/Steamboat at Wrestlemania 3. Regal says he loved it until he talked to Ricky Steamboat about it, and now he's put off by it. Austin cryptically says he knows what he means, and then they just move on to the next topic.

So what the hell is this dark secret of Savage/Steamboat that can't be spoken of??

They're just talking about how Savage would always script his matches moment-to-moment as opposed to improvise the majority of the match. It's why Steamboat has said he prefers his matches with Flair over the Wrestlemania 3 match.

IIRC, Steamboat doesn't like the match because Savage insisted on planning everything out, as always. Regal probably thought it was awesome until he heard it wasn't called in the ring.

EDIT - beat like Liz.

It's odd they wouldn't just say that instead of being all mysterious about it. It's not like wrestling fans don't know matches are usually planned out to a certain degree anyway.

I imagine that the "different outlooks" refers to a lot of MLW Radio fans hating her because she didn't add anything to any of those podcasts, and for a bunch of really sexist reasons I'm sure.

I seem to recall Savage matches having far more organised spots then most. Instead of two or three key spots it'd be like "star inside -> outside, slam my head with a chair -> then inside I'll hit you with a suplex ->" etc etc I haven't watched them in a while, but I recall watching a bunch of Savage/Santana matches and you could call them spot for spot after two times or so. But they were drat good, the blow off return match where Savage wins for good and blades was really good.

So I just figure him and Savage did that match like twenty times on the house shows before Mania.

To be fair, they don't defend Russo as much as they say "Yeah, he was loving awful, but his intentions were good".

Hell, they have a massive run-down at the end of every bad idea Russo ever had. They really just make the defense that at least every guy on the roster had something to do, and he did take a crack at pushing younger guys.

You also have to remember that this is their only experience with Russo WCW. They only get a small sample of the lovecraftian horror that was his booking.

Nah, they've watched some TNA.

I disagree with them saying that McMahon didn't act as a filter, especially since everything post those two years in WWE has been a perfect example of how he was filtered. There's giving everyone on the roster something to do which is a good thing but you have to remember that half of the ideas he had were to turn people into some form of sex offender or racist caricature. Also the whole " He didn't kill WCW" argument where while you can say that WCW was already on the downward slope you can't deny that Russo essentially cut the brakes and stuck a brick on the accelerator. I mean you can do that by pointing to the amount of fans that left in droves after he got in.

Also that list barely scraped the surface of the insane poo poo Russo did. I say you could replace Russo with any male 15 year old fan fiction writer and achieve pretty much the same as what Russo did.
