Most people don't notice how crazy the anatomy in something like this is. They see it's a photo and they just assume he's built that way. Designers all copy each other, and if the superhero physic gets popular enough we start to bring it into fashion photography. Once fashion uses it, advertising does. It's not long until every photo of a man you see looks like a Rob Liefeld drawing. It becomes the standard by which we judge a man's beauty. One that cannot under any circumstances be obtained.

I'm still pissed at Calvin Klein for causing the washboard ab craze. A look I can't get Without makeup and carrying around a really good lighting rig.

Maybe try doing a situp

Yeah, I like the wings and the little jet pack intake, but the whole "tactical" nature kinda turns me off. They could have given him a speed suit or something.

That's the problem with making something too "realistic", if you go too far, it becomes hard to suspend disbelief.

Seems like the perfect topic for him. The intros to most Calvin & Hobbes collections were him ranting about the ways newspapers were operated and how they hosed over comics.

Unfortunately I'm going to guess that most of his interview will be old man complaining about new fangled gizmos and how they're Just Not the Same.

STRIPPED is a love-letter to comic strips. It brings together the world’s best cartoonists to talk about the art form they love, and what happens to it as newspapers die. Over 90 interviews were conducted, including the first-ever audio interview with Bill Watterson (Calvin & Hobbes), as well as Jim Davis (Garfield), Cathy Guisewite(Cathy), Mort Walker (Beetle Bailey), Mike & Jerry (Penny Arcade), Matt Inman (The Oatmeal), Jeff Keane (The Family Circus), Ryan North (Dinosaur Comics), Lynn Johnston (FBOFW), Zach Weiner (SMBC), Scott Kurtz (PvP), Scott McCloud (Understanding Comics), Richard Thompson (Cul de Sac), Jeph Jacques(Questionable Content), Stephan Pastis (Pearls Before Swine), Bill Amend (Foxtrot), Kate Beaton (Hark! A Vagrant) and more. STRIPPED sits down with these creators to talk about how cartooning works, why it’s so loved, and how they’re navigating this dicey period between print and digital options…when neither path works perfectly.

Even more than comics, this movie’s about pursuing art in an age when the business of art is changing constantly.

There's a more complete list of the interviews in the link.

Haha some of the choices for those interviews are kind of hilarious, especially Ryan North because in a sense Dinosaur Comics is basically the polar opposite of Calvin and Hobbes.

Anyways, yeah I was about to go share this when I saw it was trending on Facebook. It looks really good and his explanation of the concept is pretty amusing as well:

Bill Watterson posted:

Given the movie’s title and the fact that there are few things funnier than human nudity, the idea popped into my head largely intact. The film is a big valentine to comics, so I tried to do something really cartoon-y. I had thought of having it colored with off-registered printing dots like newspaper comics, but Dave asked if I’d paint it instead, and I think he made the right call.

Set it to intervals of around 5 to 10 seconds. They will be on the site before the announcements on Twitter or Facebook - usually a minute or so - it's how ive snagged all of mine.

It reminds me of when commercials for Vampire's Suck came out and all of the reviews mentioned were by reviewers like "Seymour Butz", I guess because the producers couldn't find a single positive review from even the most obscure source to cite.

This. It's also why crap like Sharknado does nothing for me. There's a difference between parody and homage (Grindhouse, Machete) and cynically making a piece of poo poo to corner the 'bad movie' market. The people who rent/buy this stuff don't like 'bad movies', they like the idea of liking them. They would never sit through Buffalo Rider or Puma Man... though I can't really fault anyone for not watching Puma Man.

Puma Man was actually my introduction to Mystery Science Theater 3000 and it remains as one my favorite episodes.

Supersonic Man could be considered the spiritual successor to Puma Man, and it almost makes Puma Man seem competent by comparison.
