I'm pretty sure Grimlock and Soundwave are getting reissued this year, so definitely look at picking them up if you can.

Goldskull posted:What is the deal with the Mech Ideas thing? Long story short is good for me, I know their Demolition Crue is well regarded and they got no3 Gauntlet coming soon. Mech ideas release teaser images of upcoming animated-style pipes and huffer (luigi and mario, as envisioned by Spergmaster D. Wyatt). People get reasonably hyped about it. Pre-orders open up on BBTS. Some people wait out for pre-orders on TFsource, captured prey and other outlets. As such, only a handful (unknown amount at this moment) of preorders are filled. After only 1 day, Mech Ideas then release a statement saying they're pulling the plug because "insufficient preorders blablabla". Self-entitled fans and normal fans find out that both figures were actually BBTS-exclusive. A clash occurs over the TFW thread about the following:
There's more but I have an actual headache from reading the thread.

The Taint Reaper posted:I think it's time they put it behind them, there hasn't been a huffer figure or a prime with a trailer in the same line since G1. That was a joke. The issue with the character choice seems to be the notion that if you're trying to drum up excitement for a new 3rd party line, Huffer and Pipes are probably not the best options for hype building. Almost nobody cares about them, and a lot of the people who did care about the TFA style versions actually wanted Mario/Luigi repaints. Hard to really argue with that, no matter how obnoxiously the point is being made over on TFW. Small addendum to what was said about the Mech Ideas thing: BBTS is the one that made the decision. There's a chance that they might turn up elsewhere, and if they do, they may be ending noticeably cheaper. We'll likely never know and this is tin hat BS on my part, but BBTS may have put them up for order before MI expected them to and then pulled the plug. The same person does hype for both MI and MMC, so I can't imagine them dropping the ball like that given their track record. Also, BBTS won't take Animated toys in their trade/purchase program because they have a terrible time selling them, so they sort of have decent reasoning for wanting to dump it.

You know, Wyatt's a cool guy, I've met him on a few occasions now. Yeah he had a very concrete vision for Animated, but that gave us a pretty good show, honestly. With characters who have stuck around since and been featured in both later shows and the films. I don't think there's anything wrong with his work, and he's completely disappeared from the scene anyway, he's off working on Ben 10 or something.

I think it may just be me and Ka0 that have a problem with Mr. Wyatt. He can be a totally great guy to be around and hang out with, but that doesn't mean I won't think he's acted like a jerk regarding the many other people who worked on Animated, many of whom would have contributed more to making the show what it was than he did. Whether intentional or not, he talks like he was running the show and he's the be-all, end-all of what is or would have been "canon." It isn't helped by the fact that much of the fandom also acts that way too. But he was not the writer or even a writer on the show. The writers did listen to and used some of his ideas because he was a fan and their friend, but the same is also true for David Kaye. He was just a character designer. Many of the final designs in the show aren't even his; they're Eric Siebenaler's reworkings of what DJW came up with and hasbro rejected. I'd have the same problem with, for example, Alex Milne if he acted in any way similarly regarding MTMTE. Now, with that said, I don't have a hate-on for the guy or even a strong dislike for him. He just comes off as a jerk to me (and I'm sure the same is true for me when it comes to some of you), and I've wasted entirely too much time explaining why, because that's just kind of a thing I do: be over-explainy and such. I think reasons are important. Also because if you don't like something or someone on the internet, people generally take it as having a massive rage-boner after drinking a barrel of haterade.

The OP mentioning how ROTF Leader Prime was amazing wasn't kidding. For a while, my local TRU had that DOTM Jetwing Optimus just sitting awkward along with a bunch of Platinum Ultra Magnuses, and on a whim I decided to grab it (and for a lack of a better prime). It's absolutely amazing, but holy poo poo is it a massive pain to turn into a truck. The G1 stripes on the wings are a nice touch. I'm kinda considering trying to get some other movie figures. Are any of the other leader class figures any good? I kind of have my eye on Jetfire and Sentinel Prime. Also whoever had the idea to make scout class Ejector is the greatest. I never knew I wanted a toy toaster until seeing a picture of him.

Yeah, but that Springer was released a couple years before Hasbro did a proper triple changer one. In fact, IIRC that Springer was one of the very first 3rd party figures that was an entire figure and not an add-on kit like City Commander, and people were like "holy poo poo, FP is making an entire Springer figure, that's ballsy as gently caress!" Now that Hasbro is doing an Arcee, I think MMC is going to cancel theirs, too. That's a shame, the MMC Arcee looked good.

My #1 TF vehicle want is an SR-71 Blackbird, and Jetfire's vehicle mode doesn't disappoint. The robot mode and transformation are unfortunately pretty dire. Like Victory Leo and RID Magnus before him, he suffers from "my main mode is actually Prime's Sunday best" syndrome. Except those other two toys rule, and Jetfire sucks. I just transformed leader Sentinel Prime into truck mode last night as a matter of fact, and he's a lot cooler than I had remembered. My memory was that he's a fiddly fussy piece of crap with but both modes look pretty good. On re-examination, the transformation wasn't that annoying (maybe because I picked up Knight Morpher Cyclops since I got Sentinel. Cyclops has to have the bitchiest transformation between two great modes ever known) and given today's issues I can't believe I ever thought Sentinel's plastic felt cheap. His biggest issue is his weirdly pale coloring, with lack of paint apps a close second. If you can live with those things, and a somewhat challenging transformation, you'll be golden. The leader-class guy you should have your eye on, if you don';t have him already, is Ironhide. I'm no fan of the Bayverse but it's such a great TF.

ROTF megs is pretty boring, but apparently it became hard to get somewhere down the line (and there wasn't a DOTM leader) so it's crazy expensive now, especially the black "shadow command" version (which actually looks pretty OK). I think revolver looks OK in robot mode, but the vehicle mode is too weird. Still no reason for me to pick it up when the hasbro version is perfectly serviceable.
