Yeah, looks like they censored the alcohol references yet again. I thought Nintendo stopped caring about that stuff by that point. Ah well.

Chapter 11 - Blue Sea, White Clouds (Summer 3 - 6)

Music: Summer Theme

Today's the day of the Beach Festival, one of the festivals that's actually interesting.

Cid's grown up now. The day after a chicken matures, it starts laying eggs. I go ahead and get to work on the next chicken.

All the regrowable crops take awhile to grow at first, but the multiple returns will be more than worth it.

I spend most of the morning foraging since there's time to kill. It doesn't really matter when you go to a festival, as long as it's before 6PM or so, so to go early would be a waste of a perfectly good day.

Since it's a Beach Festival, we have to go here rather than the town square.

Music: Festival

Let's be careful in the ocean, and swim to our heart's content to gain stamina!

Everyone seems so full of energy. Are you going to enter too?

I see. Do your best.

Huh? My name? It doesn't matter.

...It's Nami. Well usually, I'm called the Weather Girl. See you later.

Nami is one of the bachelorettes from A Wonderful Life, though you can't marry her in this game. She's the weather girl you see on TV, and she's mainly only here during the summer or so.

We've befriended Bob enough that he's now coming to these things!

After all, I've been dragged into the water many times while fishing.

Maybe I'll join in after I put on some sunscreen.

Once again, Ray and Alex are pretty one-note.

At least Ann's got a bit more to her than "I LIKE BLOWING STUFF UP."

Why don't you go home before you drown?

And with that, let's check out our next mini-game!

Once again, I can't find the music for this, but in some parts it sounds a lot like the song that plays in FF6 where you fight an octopus during an opera.

The rules are simple! Press the A button to swim and touch all four colored buoys to finish the race! As the currents change from time to time, try to use them to your advantage. But beware of the swirling currents that appear now and then. If you get stuck in one, you'll lose a lot of time. Ready?

A lot of this is just dumb luck. The AI's pretty competent at this, and it comes down to who gets screwed over the least by the random elements.

Currents will randomly appear and move anybody in them in that direction. The whirlpools will suck people to the middle and make them stuck for a few seconds.

The dolphin gives you a nice speed boost, but you can't control it, so it'll probably screw you over.

It comes down to whether you can avoid all the crap involved and hoping your opponents get screwed over. I lost twice to Basil before I won.

Yeah, I reset just to win this game, because the prize is worth it.

Please eat this Power Berry and grow stronger.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

There are five Power Berries in the game. Each one increases your max stamina by 20 points, with base stamina being 100. Finding all five doubles your original stamina, so they're incredibly useful to have. They're also a pain to get at times.

Good work everybody!

28. Blue Sea, White Clouds Note

The Beach Festival to wish for the safety of the sea and good health. A note played by the blue sea.

It also unlocked another note, which is always welcome.

And then I spend the rest of the day mining for limestone.

Music: Summer Theme

The usual routine, of course.

Onions are ready already. Not a lot of money, but a nice windfall while we wait for our big crops to grow.

I go ahead and get my hoe worked on because why not?

I notice I have twenty-one flowers shipped, and a couple of the other unlocks require thirty of something, so I figure shipping thirty flowers will get Lyla to move in and open her store. One bag of seeds should do it.

It's my first time here but doesn't feel that way.

29. Hustle-and-Bustle Note

It's great when you meet people. It takes time to get to know each other, but a gentle note for coming together.

We get this by having a ton of people living here. Well, Nami dosen't technically live here, but the game says she counts, so who am I to argue?

There's still three or so people we haven't met yet.

Top of the agenda is chopping wood for my barn.

I buy soda since buying a lot of it gets an achievement. I'm not sure which one to buy, though.

And I end this day foraging.

Music: Summer Theme

Bob's now top of the eligible bachelors! That's good since the game chooses who you romance at certain festivals based on who you have the highest affection with.

I end up just buying the rest of the lumber and build the barn. It's more efficient to make money and buy lumber than to chop it yourself.

Next festival is the 7th, and it'll be our first romantic one!

The attentive manager is wonderful.

So what's at the library today?

I don't think you can actually do anything with plants more complicated than what you do with crops.

A summary of Spring festivals. The books change between Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, so we only have access to the first two seasons' festival lists. Not that it really matters.

Herbs are useful for a variety of things, like tea and dyes.

And the Summer festivals. Fireworks will be where we'll meet our final eligible bachelor, while Star and Firefly are romance-oriented.

This day ends with me pulling up some weeds.

Music: Summer Theme

TV is wrong. It's the next day.

I think these things only show up in the fall. They're pretty rare flowers that pop up throughout the series.

Please handle them with care.

Woo, Bob's two-heart conversation!

Crops coming up nicely!

I spend the rest of the day in the mine, trying to get to the bottom before failing. I'm probably just gonna save-scum this next time since it's a pain to do and just wastes time when I could be doing more productive stuff.

So we haven't actually gone into the barn yet, have we? Let's go do that!

Another song for this scene that's not on Youtube.

This is the Gourmet. He appears in HM64/Back to Nature. He's...much more odd here.

Now, come over here.

...olumema... Not sure what his banner's supposed to say there.

It will be the wonderful ingredient to highlight the dinner table.

You are such a nice person. If you'd like, I'll give you this pig.

Please give it a name.

So, goons, what are we going to name this pig?

Pretty much. I thought you needed to win the Cow/Chicken/Sheep festivals to get the notes, but it looks like there aren't any notes associated with those festivals. I assume you just have to show up to the Beach Festival to get the note, though I didn't really test it to see. It looks like everything else is just "Show up to Festival X and get a free note" which is always useful.

You forgot his classic line of "Die pig!!!!!!!!!!!!" right before he offs her. Calling his victims pigs goes on to be kind of a thing.

Luca Blight is the kind of villain you really have to watch in action to appreciate just how great he is, so a description from us probably won't change your mind. There's a few LPs of Suikoden 2 you could read if you want an idea what he's like.
