Chompsky has decided that when I lay on the couch, that she enjoys hopping up on my legs and digging at them, and occasionally biting them. I will wiggle them a bit to get her to move, and she'll jump to the top of the couch and stare at me a while before jumping onto my stomach, running down to my legs, and begin digging/biting again. It is adorably sassy.

Welp, our little guy has continued to deteriorate and now is at the e-vet for severe dehydration due to not eating/drinking/moving much. wish I'd brought him in sooner but today was the first day he didn't eat anything besides the force fed critical care. UGH. Not looking good...

Sorry to say, Prissy the white mini Rex has joined the thread's parade of sadness he didn't make it. Gonna miss those nose wiggles, those little snoring noises, and the stretched out leg that said "I'm relaxing here. Problem?" Also the super soft fur and the way parts of his coat changed patterns with the seasons. He was a surprise gift, born in a midtown Manhattan Petland Discounts, and true to his New York upbringing he never took poo poo from anybody (least of all the cat, who periodically got chased out of the rabbit's enclosure). Pro tip: moving to an apartment with wall to wall carpeting and a carpeted staircase can make for a very happy bun. We never knew just how fast he could run until then! Turns out his recent kidney problems may have been chronic and were well hidden for a while (he's always had a really good attitude). I'll miss him dearly bitprophet fucked around with this message at 08:11 on Mar 16, 2014 |

Just remember that you made those the most comfortable nose wiggles and snoring noises possible and that he likely never needed for anything except for maybe a bite of whatever it is you're eating right this goddamn minute.

Was just about to make dinner when I realized I didn't put the recycling out. I carted stuff out to the road and saw that someone had ditched a printer paper box on the shoulder near my driveway. So I went to go grab it and add it to my recycling bin and it moved when I picked it up. Luckily I was already two beers deep into culinary disaster hour, so I didn't freak out and toss it into the road or anything. Inside was this guy: He was seemed pretty loving cold (it's about 6F out, not counting windchill right now). He's warmed up now that he's inside and is very friendly. Maybe it's a she? I'm not a bunnyologist. Anyway, he/she/it is in good shape, has a gorgeous coat, and was obviously taken care of. Right now bunny is chilling in my dog's crate because I have no idea what to do. He's got a dish of water and some of what was supposed to be my salad at the moment (I refuse to share the steak) and seems content - though he doesn't like the cage much. Him and the dog are best pals already, which is kind of funny. I'm not exactly sure what to do with him. It's obvious they ditched him on purpose. Any tips on short-term rabbit care while I find a home? FreelanceSocialist fucked around with this message at 23:21 on Mar 16, 2014 |

Timothy hay, lots of it. Otherwise lots of water and fresh veggies once a day.

I don't know if the rabbit was on pellets previously, so I guess we'll see what kind of a mess comes out of the back of him with this new diet.

Also grab a bag of compressed pine pellets, it's the finest cage liner / litterbox material I've ever used. Here's a guide on sexing a rabbit: http://www.rabbitnetwork.org/articles/sexing.shtml Good call on not giving bunny steak, once they taste meat, they turn into human hunting monsters that collapse coal mines to feast on the trapped miners below. What, you think the the Rabbit of Caerbannog is a myth? The standard medieval depiction of cowardice shows a heavily armed knight dropping his sword and fleeing in terror from a small animal such as a snail or, as here, a rabbit. Condolences, even though it was shortened, 8 years is a great long life that many a bunny would be lucky to enjoy. I've been hesitant to share too soon, but it has been a good 2 days, so what the heck. We visited our closest rescue (Huntsville, AL) Friday afternoon. Pensa had seemed in good spirits since Sonda's passing a week before so we thought it couldn't hurt to begin the possibly long process of finding her someone to bond with. She was absolutely miserable during the hour long car ride, her first solo one ever. To top it off she wanted nothing to do with anything or anyone at the rescue. The combination of the ride there, and a new place that looked/smelled/sounded different made her basically clam up and refuse to interact with a couple of different boy bunnies we tried introductions with. We eventually decided to give one guy a shot on coming home with us since he was very easygoing during the couple of hours he spent around her at the rescue. We crossed fingers and hoped for the best knowing we would actually see a real reaction from her once she was at home in her own territory again. We spent a couple of hours making arrangements in the bunny room, preparing for the potential long haul of a bonding process. Some results of Day 1: (bad cellphone pics, really gotta find that camera cable.) Yeah, they spent the first night apart and haven't been separated since. The new guy pictured is The Dude. My girlfriend was considering a name change but I voted for keeping it. Really chill little guy who seems to love his new environment. I'll have to come up with some better quality pictures soon.

So many cute buns! I clipped Chompsky's nails last night. She didn't even fuss. I just laid her on her back in my lap and started clipping. I didn't even have to hold her down. Afterwards, I picked her up and set her next to me, and she just sat there, like she was expecting a treat. Naturally I had to give her one because she was so well behaved. Normally she'll squirm and kick, and when I'm done she'll run and hide under a table and thump at me.

Yeah loving rabbits. Trimming my dog's nails really sucks because there's no magical "turn him on his back and he goes limp" position.

I could never figure that out even when my vet showed me. When I tried it he'd just flip his poo poo. I just couldn't ever trim my last rabbit's nails. Fortunately they never caused him any problems.

And the woman looked at me, rolled her eyes, and said "that's what concrete is for". Bitch he's wearing booties. Do you think that my apartment has concrete floors?? I guess the main difference between bunny claws and dog claws is that my rabbits were never like "oh my play style is to scratch you and every dog I meet bc that makes sense".

I just heard Chompsky knock something over upstairs in my bedroom. I looked up from the couch, and saw her bolt down the stairs the fastest I've ever seen her run, and when she got to the bottom of the stairs, she took a digger and slid into wicker basket. Now she's just sitting there staring at me.

This might be kind of dumb but it has my bf all worried and now I'm worked up. My bunny's poops have changed, but her behavior has not. Recently (within the past 2 weeks but can't say for sure) they have become small and hard. Used to be bigger, beefier poops... if that makes sense. The change is noticeable enough to cause us alarm. She is in great spirits though, hopping around all happy as normal. Eating and drinking as much as normal. This weekend we stopped giving her pellets in an effort to improve her diet and see what that does. We previously fed her about two handfuls of pellets a day with as much hay as she wants. Now she just gets hay and some fresh veggies. Is this the right thing? Or should I take her to the vet? I know change in poop can be bad but she's acting so healthy I'm not convinced anything is wrong with her. Of course, I also know that stomach problems can happen really quickly in bunnies, so I don't want to ignore it.

Small hard poop is what *should* be coming out of the back end of a rabbit. If she's in good spirits and her belly isn't hard, just keep an eye on her.
