Do not engage. Just tell me to go back to Kiwi Farms where I waste days upon days crying about how I wasted years upon years on SA. Did you know I was personally responsible for SA's rise in popularity in the 00's? It's true! Just come to the Farms and find out how! It's the trash kingdom I deserve.

Yes. Like this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/UnitedStatesRevolt

btw I have this theory Moore's law is something completely fabricated because of collusion with elite semiconductor companies who develop technology way in advanced, but slowly release it a little at a time to maintain consistent profits. If they released the best stuff right away, it would not be as profitable as slowly coming out with better stuff.

why do you set jawn up with these softballs and nobody ever has easily debunked conspiracy theories about hard drives? :(

you got that one where you explained how they shipped the parts from one plant to another and they couldn't get the tolerances as tight but they put out some err, less tolerant drives and solved the hdd shortage crisis of 201x

that was pretty good, and i'm looking forward to hearing more about ssd controversies as well

yeah but if poo poo got that hot you're probably burning out other poo poo in your computer first

for all their flaws mechanical drives are pretty resilient

they weren't less tolerant, they were just smaller so the testing time was lower

there's only three different "types" of drives, mobile, desktop, and enterprise. all drives of the same type undergo the same testing, so enterprise drive a went through the same test process as enterprise drive b

i've heard of 3d printers being used to make wax forms for metal casting, which is a much cheaper way of doing things (in terms of material costs) than cnc milling where weight/strength isn't the primary concern, which is pretty cool imo

it's also useful for helping with mold making for things with weird internal geometry that would be really hard/impossible to cnc

the cases where 3d printing comes in handy are always interesting because cnc is seriously almost always the correct solution

and they're not softball questions. it's like this guy: http://archives.seul.org/pygame/users/Mar-2012/msg00031.html

he wants "line level" variables. problem being it's his own made-up terminology for "global" variable that he wants to sprinkle all over the code without admitting they're globals. so advising him is this weird game where they're dealing with the technical specifics while simultaneously reverse-engineering his made up language for discussing them.

so i can't really answer "running infinite loops in the cloud is hardcore" because it's not clear what that means. it could potentially describe a loop consuming an 'infinite' JSON structure, a polling loop, or even a finite-bounded loop that's going beyond some watchdog/timeout feature because of poor construction, or a million other things. it's not the standard terminology for whatever's being described. i don't really want to reverse engineer a made up language today v0v

christ i forgot how bad trying to read usenet posts is

top post, bottom post, quote a giant wall of text and add a two word replay somewhere in the middle, screw up the line breaks because adding >>>>>>> made it wrap, then randomly split the thread into two because someone hosed up a header
