This may have been answered earlier in the thread, but does any of the announced multiplayer features sound like they will be worth a drat? I'm trying to decide between the PC and the PS4 version, but the cheaper price of the digital deluxe version for the PC sounds like the way to go, even though I'm worried ubisoft will bone up the performance (I have a 3770k and a 7950; it should outperform the ps4 version...right!?)

They basically ripped off Dark Souls. You can choose to not participate or you can have people randomly invade your game and hack you to steak some game related stuff that's useful (money, xp, who knows) and you have to find them and counter hack them or kill them. It's implied that there will be penalties for just running up and killing people and less benefits for the person invaded if they just kill the invader vs hacking them back. There's also apparently going to be a mobile app where you can hack into someone's game and help them or hurt them. Hack street blockers to hinder the player or to catch police, stuff like that. The invasion multiplayer actually looks pretty sweet. They can't invade during missions, only during free roam. So dudes won't mess with your story progression, but if you're running around righting wrongs vigilante style I think you can have someone jump in. And when someone invades, each player sees themselves as Aiden Pierce and the other person as some randomly generated person. The way it got shown, you don't get a "you've been invaded" message like in Dark Souls. At any point in time, some random NPC walking in the crowd could actually be someone looking for a good vantage point to hack you or who walks up and blasts you in the face. I'm kinda excited for the paranoia factor. On the performance, after FC3 I think UBI knows how to make things scale. I have the 7870 recommended in the part picking thread and a fairly old mb/ i5 1156 socket processor with only 4 gigs of ram and I was able to scale FC3 down to "Gorgeous with less post processing" and play it at a steady 45-60 fps. I'm upgrading for this, but if this scales anywhere near as well the recommended will go full settings and it'll still be pretty as hell a notch or two down and you can bump your frame rate back up near 60. I have zero basis for these assumptions, but it seems like a pretty safe bet. TheSpiritFox fucked around with this message at 19:52 on Apr 8, 2014 |

We finally have more RAM in our consoles, I want that to translate to more cool stuff going on, not more godrays and ambient bitmap occlusion or whatever. Graphics is a battle you'll never win because that's a hardcore sect of people that can never be pleased, yet every developer spends endless resources on trying to please them due to how vocal they are about it. Gameplay will improve when everyone's mindset changes and people encourage developers to spend more time improving it rather than sating their MAXIMUM GRAPHICS desires.

Or the games industry will crash hard because of the unsustainable costs of creating photorealistic assets along with hugely elaborate and expensive physics engines to maintain the illusion of realism at all times. In all seriousness, though, the sperging about graphics is really prominent right now especially just because we're transitioning to the next console generation, which is a long overdue transition to begin with. I'd say it's also Ubisoft's fault for making the original demo look better than the full game with all that vertical slice nonsense, but honestly, a lot of the spergs moaning about it should know better than to trust a big-name developer and publisher to show them honest gameplay footage. It's always, always going to be doctored in some way, it's a shame that that's the norm, but that's just how it is and how it's always been, even with the best and most honest of developers. Honestly, though, when the game releases it will probably look pretty good and communicate its modern dystopian cyberpunk-y visual themes just fine and nobody will care that there's a few less props blowing around in the wind or w/e.

Am I the only one that loved the Chicago trailer but was super put off by the story one? The story one just made it seem like generic thriller nonsense with somehow super combat-oriented generic hacker guy doing a thing because oh man some conspiracy dudes killed my kid, or something. I still love the idea of incursions and loving around with the city, but the story seems even worse than all the modern day AC stuff.

Although after MGS2, I've always been expecting some kind of twist. Anyway, even if Watch Dogs doesn't live up to the reveal trailer, I'm sure it will be possible later in the generation, going by how much open-world games improved during the last console cycle. Not having to target old systems as well would help.

Honestly, I don't know that the footage there looks much better than Sleeping Dogs maxed out. I like the lighting system more in certain frames but maybe Sleeping Dogs just has a more interesting location to show off? I run that super smooth on a single 780 ti, so I don't think you'll have to have SLI just to use TXAA with Watch Dogs.
