XC post from SVTP:

After a few weeks of bumbling around I finally got the time to take my car to AED in Sacramento to undergo my Paxton tuning session.

Not to be without drama, I've had quite a few things go wrong along this build, included but not limited to:

spraying r134a everywhere into Revelation's garage while busting the a/c suction line
barfing coolant out during the install and at AED
blowing off multiple intercooler pipes on hot and cold side the day before tuning
failed attempt at getting the accufab throttle body between the charge pipe and intake

A week after the install JoeWagon helped me get my BAP going and everything was ready for tune.

After all this it did run, and magically made it to AED without drama. I filled up at my local Costco previous to leaving at 6am, same gas I've used consistently for months and what I was running for my previous NA tune.

NA Mod list:

Airraid Boss PJ intake
Accufab throttle body
Boss IM
Kooks Shorty Headers
Lethal catless H
JPC OTA
GT500 AB

After another few thousand miles for some reason I got tired of an all motor powerhouse and hit up the both big vendors for a Paxton kit and additional parts. During this time I also managed to fix up my suspension and eyeball it enough to keep the rear end in line. Last month I proceeded to install it over the course of 5 half days worth of work, about 15-20hrs of labor. Don't fear the dremel!

Paxton 3.8 stock kit
ID1000
Roush BAP
JPC Tbolts, Expansion tank
Roush vent pod/Aeroforce gauge installed to check coolant, iat, etc.

I made it to AED around 9am and Shaun had the car strapped down within a few minutes.

First run, we made a staggering 692hp. Something had to be wrong?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cijY68B2oM

2nd run the car decided to barf out a gallon of coolant from the metal fitting inserted into the lower radiator tube. This tube is held together with worm clamps. Shaun was kind enough to patch me back together and the session went on as planned.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8Nwey_cwNQ

Like a moron I forgot to record any of the full throttle pulls, but the numbers in the end surprised both Shaun and I.

700.2hp/524ftlbs! Crazy numbers, why even go e85 when you have Kirkland's finest gas in your tank!

My love went out to Shaun@AED and Greg@AED. Awesome guys, professional shop, best shop dogs.

I'm strongly considering a 2014 mustang. I really want track pack and nothing else. I'm told by a friend working at a dealership they won't be able to order 2014s after may. Should I put it off as long as possible to get more discounts? Like wait until the 2015s come out and then buy a 2014?

Depending on your local market, that's the best way to get a hell of a deal. Enough of them will have the track pack, and you'll probably get some options for less than your track pack + nothing else order would cost.

Yup. As soon as those 2015s hit the lots, you're going to see prices fall on the 2014s. Take advantage of patience :)

Can someone talk me out of buying a 2015 the moment it hits the lot? I know id save a ton of money on a 2014 GT instead but man the 2015 keeps growing on me. My budget is 35K but realistically what are my chances of getting a GT with a track pack?

I don't think Ford has even announced the prices yet, I'd imagine the configurator will hit the web sometime this summer. Not factoring in insane dealership markups a manual 5.0 might be around 35k?

The dealer markups are going to be insane. I would be surprised if they are somewhere in the 50% range. That said, I sold my '12 GT to pick up a '15 or '16 when the time comes

My goal is to sit in it during all the auto shows, assuming it goes well my budget is 35K for a manual GT Premium and the track pack. I hope they dont get crazy with markups.

I'm going to be mildly surprised if $35k isn't about base price for a GT this go-round.

Base GT would give the advantage to camaro and challenger. You can get V8's in both for less so it would be silly for them to price it 5k over competitors.

Edit: Base GT at 35K would be too much imo. Maybe due to markup but msrp, they will keep it the same.

That might be a bit ambitious. I think that combo is something like $37 sticker on the current cars. (I could be very wrong)

You are right, its about 37-38 for a GT Premium with track pack. I don't plan to pay more than 35 though, that's before trade in and down payment. So in reality it'll be a lot less but that's just the number I am sticking with.

I don't think the regular GTs with Track Pack will get marked up. If the dealer you go to has a markup on a non-special-edition car, go to a different dealer.

The '15s almost assuredly will be marked up across the board, at least right when they first come out. Gotta squeeze those must-have-it-now folks for every penny.

\/ Not to mention the C7 Vettes; remember last year when we were seeing base models running into 6-digit prices? And people loving bought them, too. Sports cars fetch a premium (and I'd argue the Mustang is legitimately a sports car now).

You guys are right in terms of markup but I am sure if I am stern I will get what I want. Especially if I go in with down payment in cash and a car as a trade in. At least it'll help me negotiate better.

It will be 6 months to a year before dealers come off the prices of the '15s. You could walk in with cash to buy it at MSRP and they would tell you "no thanks". This will be especially true if there are supply issues (real or artificial) from Ford.

This is arguably one of the hottest cars to come around in a while and there will be huge demand for it

This is true, but this seems to be the only downside of the car at the moment. Ive made up my mind that I want the car, I just want others opinions on any reasons to hold off. If its ridiculously marked up then sure I will wait until its reasonable.

Good point, im sure Faceless Clock is right in that I already made up my mind and am just looking for justification. 2015 is such a big year for cars though that every day something new comes out that makes the decision that much harder.

Keep in mind also that the 2015 is also essentially the 50th Anniversary edition of the car. Even once the 1,000 or so 2014.5 commemorative units are sold, the '15s are still gonna be snapped up by collectors at any price, because you know clean examples are gonna be collector items in a few decades due to Significant Number.

Ok, I didn't realize this was their 50 years. I am starting to get nervous about the markup now

I guess I should start to lower my expectations then if I wanted to get one this year for my budget.

What I would start doing is simply saving the additional money (say, whatever you think the monthly payment would be) after it comes out for either a bigger down payment for more options or go fast(er) parts after it comes out. That's my plan anyway.

Learn to compromise. There are a lot of options I regret not getting/finding like glass roof and recaros. Shoot for a 16+ once bugs have been worked out to avoid any future MT82 issues.

The entire V8 drivetrain is a carryover with minor updates. So I wouldn't worry about any transmission related defects. If they haven't been able to fix them since 2011, they won't be before 2016.

MT82 has minor revision updates as well, untested as always. The reverse lockout mechanism has been redesigned, but I doubt that will change any issues with the clutch delay, clutch spring, pressure plate backout issues, pressure plate bolts backing out.. I don't even know where the list ends. You really have to try driving one of these symptomatic cars to get a gist of what can and will possibly go wrong.

I would never buy another MT82 trans related car and personally holding out for the "Next Big Thing" from Ford. Bring on a crazy engine, bring on the TR6060(or 70?) for a new Mach1/Cobra, give the public something more than a dressed up GT with forged motor.

Does anyone know where you can buy a complete rear end rebuild kit for a 2001 GT?

Im looking to buy a complete 31 spline axles, a new diff, new gears, gear cover, lube, nuts, bolts, etc... like this kit.
late model restoration's kit, LRS-4204SDK-E? I would buy it now, but they are out of stock.

I dont want to buy it in pieces because I am not 100% sure about all the misc parts I will need to get it to all fit together.

Seems to be in stock now :)

I think this is a mash of the FRPP kit and off the shelf hardware, ever think about moving to Strange 8.8 products? You'd definitely need to still source all the misc gear, but that 1k is going towards the two axles (500ish) and the diff (300ish) with everything else being the misc hardware.

Hope you got the rear suspension and tires to back up all that gear.

Yea, I see its back online as in the last few minutes! woot! I have everything Maximum Motorsports suspension part now except coil overs and kmember.
so suspension parts are a go. my rear tires need to get replaced though, but that will happen very soon after the upgrade. The current tires are crap and they will keep me slow until I break everything in. I try to keep my mod budget to about $1000 a year. I figure instead of just replacing some old gear, why not go big and all out.
