So after reading the recent Awful Movie Review article on Abelar: Tales of the Ancient Empire, I went looking for information on the supposed prequel The Sword and the Sorcerer, because I remembered it dimly seeing it as a kid on HBO or something. The problem with this is that as someone who has never read the novel and has little to no idea what gone girl is, aside from the fact that it's a book that 'moms' read, I have no idea what it is for, little what it's about, and no reason to care. So fox's advertising partners, let me show you how it's done.

My uncle gave it to me when I was 9 or 10 and before the internet you took what you could get. It was full of questionable sexual encounters with clever names for dicks and boobs. Did they do that in the movie too?

hey, does anyone remember the whole thing with The Sapphires, and how the movie poster made it so that Chris O'Dowd upstaged all the main characters, who were Indigenous women? Well, to carry on in the fine tradition of "white dudes upstaging Indigenous women", let me present exhibit a. The hell? That white guy is barely in the movie, and those tiny tiiiiny little figures there? They're the main characters! I actually couldn't remember who the hell "that white guy' even was, I had to look it up. Kenneth Branagh, apparently. So yes, another example of overseas marketing not trusting moviegoing audiences to give a film a chance unless they know it has a big name actor in it - even if the big name actor isn't even the main character, and the story's actually about some racial minorities. But at least the Kenneth Branagh poster makes some kind of racist sense. In this next poster, the girls are upstaged by kangaroos. KANGAROOS. From my memory, there's barely even any appearance of kangaroos in the story, barring a scene where a man gives the girls a kangaroo tail to eat, so not only is this marketing strategy stupid, it's also going to just anger anyone who decides to watch the film primarily for the presence of marsupials. In case you're wondering what poster we got in Australia, it was more like this.

It's pretty obvious that the Kangaroos were sloppily shoved in later by a different artist to the person that did the rest, so I'm guessing that some studio exec looked at the original artwork for international distribution and said 'We need to make it obvious that this is in Australia! PUT KANGAROOS ON IT!'.
