psydude posted:My condolences. it starts with you flying a lot (and this is relative only to other RLOs), since you're only a LT and they want you to get the experience in while you still can since you have none whatsoever. maybe you're a PL in a flight company and your CO is cool, and you'll fly a couple times a week. pretty soon after and no matter what happens beforehand you'll get turfed over to a staff position, where you'll be lucky to fly twice a month. any more than that and you'll be seen as 'that guy' by your fellow staff for never being in the office, always out flying. from there, eventually you'll get a command, and as long as your BC isn't right up your rear end in a top hat you can pretty much fly as much as you want because gently caress it, it's now or never. after that, it's straight to battle staff forever, and a couple years after major rolls around you're a FAC 2 'staff aviator' that literally everyone hates flying with the twice a quarter you actually get in the cockpit and nearly loving kill someone. one day, in the distant future, you'll pin LTC, get a nice command, and fly whenever the gently caress, but hope you enjoy that soul-crushing 15 year wait first. you shoulda gone warrant, bro

Triggs posted:I'm an HHC XO that sucks. my commander at campbell was an rear end in a top hat and used to stick our XO with what seemed like all of the work. the XO wouldn't go home til like 10pm almost every night and he would come in on the weekends sometimes. his marriage fell apart in that job. have fun!! for reference our commander was out at like 3pm every day unless he had a meeting or something. which i'm sure was just code word for going home anyway. brains posted:one of the stories he told us about this kid who was on one of the shorter rucks and started limping near the end and was struggling badly. the drills gave him the usual encouragement, and the kid wanted to keep going so they let him finish it out. as soon as he crosses the line he collapses, and says something along the lines of, "this hurts really bad." he had broken both femurs, and they had to put him into emergency surgery. On one hand, I want to laugh at the kid for being so weak as to break both his femurs like that. On the other hand, I'm terrified of a man that can break both his femurs and finish his drat ruck. I mean drat, that's pretty much the ultimate gut check and he passed with flying colors. That kid has the drive, he can do well in whatever he chooses...except apparently physical activity. psydude posted:Our CO's brother was a basic training company commander at Benning and said they're seeing a growing number of kids come in who don't know how to run. As in physically don't understand how to put one foot infront of the other in a fashion to move faster than a walk, or they just don't know how to run well? If it's the first, I wasn't aware that was possible at that age without some sort of actual disability. If it's the latter, that's pretty normal. Most people really have no idea how to properly run. not caring here posted:I've always been taped, and the tape test is dumb so I've never been remotely close to failing, but after a record best of sit ups I had an extra inch and a half around my waist. Tape was a joke. Had a guy in my unit where he didn't quite have a six pack, but he had the beginning of some definition there. In for tape every time because he was pretty drat big. At least most of us fatbodies getting taped were actually fat, the rest just had a bit of muscle on their frame.

In 1985 in Ft. Benning, a young recruit at 30th AG had trouble adjusting and attempted suicide by tying the electrical cord of a floor polisher to his neck then throwing the machine out the window. I never met the guy, but it was sworn to me he was in the cycle just before mine and it was the best laugh ever. Is this man still haunting the hallowed halls of 30th AG, and is he still attempting Janitorial Seppuuku on a bi-monthly basis?
