A lot of tears are shed over Netflix being behind the paywall, despite no one actually being affected by this terrible injustice. If The One is the only console you own then you're an idiot for not subscribing to Xbox live because multiplayer games are fun and most games have a multiplayer component that you'll miss out on. If its not the only console you own then just watch Netflix on your lesser console. Or just get a second job so you can afford both. Dr video games has gone crazy.

If the argument's flowing out of your favor, you put words in peoples' mouths. If that doesn't work, then say they're mad. And lord knows the first one to mad loses. For months these pissants have been agog over how terrible the machine is. Writhing over and in each other like a ball of mating snakes. Anyone who isn't like them in thought or care is immediately labeled an irrational person. For something you hold in such disdain, for something that you completely abhor, you cannot stop yourself from obsessing about it daily. And the fact that the same points are covered over and OVER again shows that there's not actually that much to hold one's interest. You get something out of making GBS threads on the toy incessantly, constantly. What could otherwise be a pleasant experience has to be utterly blackened by you. For what? What do you get out of this? You've rendered any meaningful or even pleasant discussion dead. The way these forums have been flowing in the past few months, it's hardly surprising. Reddit's more coherent than this place, now, Noise has conquered the signal here. There's nothing to be had, except for you and your lot to delight in each other's stunted minds. It's a loving toy. Get over it. (USER WAS PUT ON PROBATION FOR THIS POST)

Even if nobody has to eat catfood or live in a cardboard box because of the Gold paywall it's both needlessly lovely and completely typical of Microsoft to make you pay a monthly/yearly fee to access something you already pay for a subscription to on the console they position as your All-in-One media box.

Catfoods more expensive than people food so that wouldn't work. Everyone already knows everything else you said, and have known it for 6ish years? I'd place it on the importance scale around the same mark as the Ps4 not having a youtube app. It's dumb but deep down no one really cares, if you're affected you just work around it. Maybe they will drop the requirement but I don't mind either way. Soul Glo posted:Crafty's the biggest Xboner on the Forums, too. There is no face here, I just caught some friendly fire.

Netflix etc being behind the paywall is dumb, but who on earth doe it really matter to? If you had Netflix before getting an Xbox, you probably already had somewhere to watch it. If you got the xbox first, you probably got gold anyway, and if not then at least they're pretty open about it. I don't see it coming as a nasty surprise to anyone. I mean, I get why it's stupid, but I don't understand why people always bring it up and get so upset by it. It doesn't actively detract from the value of gold, netflix, or the console itself (the latter being arguable, to be fair). And anyway, wasn't there a credible rumor about excluding apps from the paywall? They were talking about it on the Bombcast last week.

People keep bringing it up because it's the perfect example of Microsoft's weird almost passive-aggressive consumer hostility. If you steal all the change from the couch cushions every time you visit a friend's house you're not really going to bankrupt them or anything. They probably forgot it was there in the first place. But it says something about you and how you treat your friends.

I got Netflix after I got my Xbox (Netflix wasn't in Canada when the Xbox 360 was released). After I slowed down on my gaming, and quit online gaming, I was faced with paying around $60 to renew and use my Xbox as a Netflix machine, or buy a Roku/Apple TV/one of million streaming boxes. As of right now, if I was to buy an Xbox One, I wouldn't be buying Live with it. My main interests are single player games. Having Netflix + other apps behind a paywall detracts from its value to me as an all-in-one media centre. In fact, if a kinectless model with a microphone for voice commands is released, with apps freely available, they could position themselves well.

It matters to me because I like controlling Netflix with my voice but I don't want to have to pay extra to do so. Yes, I have four other boxes hooked up to my TV that can play Netflix just as well (and the TV does on its own too), but the experience of voice control on the Xbone is just better, even if it is finicky. I don't do multiplayer, so I'm pissed off that I would have to pay MS an extra fee that none of the other boxes require just to use that feature. It didn't come as a surprise as I knew going in that I wasn't going to be able to use the app on the Xbone (I'm not about to pay for gold), but it's annoying anyway.

It's also not weird for a house full of normal, not gaming people not to have a dozen boxes that already do it. My nephew got one for Christmas, he doesn't play online, and they system is going in his room, and part of the reason for that is his parents thought it would be great for him to have Netflix on his own tv too. It's a dumb decision that should have been undone ages ago. 5 or 6 years ago when Netflix streaming was still a new thing, and there weren't an endless supply of cheap boxes that had every app you could think of, it was a nice bulletpoint to the Live service. Now it's something that they think is a nice bulletpoint when it's really hobbling the media center aspect of their console. It shows a definite cluelessness on Microsoft's part about how stuff like Netflix and Youtube should be console features, not Live features.

The current word on this is that they are looking into changing it. We shall see. Added. For what it's worth, I agree that it is stupid and agree that Microsoft is stupid for thinking this was ever a good idea. I'm hopeful they finally realize that.

Anyways, I'm also going to get Trials as well, so if you want someone else's scores to beat, add Matazar. I'm also terrible at Forza, if that helps. Edit: Speaking of dumb Microsoft decisions. I just signed in to buy trials through my browser, but it was the first time logging in after reloading. So they want to send me a security code, which is fine. However when I set it to send to my e-mail address, it wants me to enter it to make sure that it's me. I mean, I'm sure it's possible to forget the e-mail address I just entered a few seconds ago to log in, but what the hell? The phone option is fun too, I have two numbers attached and get to figure out which is which: XXX-XXX-5629 XXX-XXX-5629 You'd think they'd see the duplication and give me a different section of the number since none of the other numbers match like that.
