Nah, the real answer is because all of the Bell Keepers are bros within themselves, helping each other out to make your life miserable and ring the bell forever.

Still by far the best covenant in the game, though I'd argue being a door greeter for Doors of Pharros as a rat follower is good times all times.

Holy poo poo, how is the Greatsword Phanton im front of the fog gate in Huntsman's Copse giving me more trouble than any boss i've killed so far, Sentinels included?! :argh:

I enjoyed rat covenant pvp a lot more than other covenant pvp, possibly because I really enjoy winning.

Bell was fun but its less fun because sometimes you get summoned into terrible situations and its a bit more of a mess in terms of the people you face.

Honestly though pvp got less fun after I hit around the 120 SL mark, since it became a lot more difficult to find fights and the fights would end up either me and someone else rolling and prodding or me against someone elses ability to hit a button to spam whatever spell they felt was most annoying. Rat covenant let me do fun things like throw fart clouds on people that broke all their poo poo and poisoned them to death while I dropped prism stones around them and that magic is now forever dead to me.

The best Bellbros are only tryin' to give you a hard time and keeping with the spirit of things. It's rare you'll find one who's like, serious about PvP, actually using "optimal" equipment and whatnot.

Though they exist, of course. When I'm doing it, and my fellow phantom has stuff like a greatsword and weapon buffs and such, I'll just take out the Channeler's Trident and Gough carvings for a happy dancing fun time.

Anyway, Soul Memory is annoying. I just cleared Iron Keep and kept trying to help people with the Smelter Demon (inevitably for them to die to the post-plunge pulse attack -- OF COURSE), and inadvertently wracked up a ton while just dicking around. I'm nearly at 1,000,000 now. I haven't even done the Tomb of Saints and Shaded Woods paths yet.

Though I'm still seeing summon signs so MAYBE that's actually normal?

I haven't had any trouble with online play (either pvp or co-op) and I'm at 3 of the early big boss souls with over 2m soul memory. I don't think it really negatively impacts you as much as people think, either that or there's a ton of people with obscenely high soul memory.

Anyone having trouble with the Smelter Demon should pick up the Gyrm Greatshield. 100% physical reduction, 100% fire resist and high stability trivializes him as long as you roll away from his pulse attack. It also trivializes the Old Iron King.

Old Iron King is pretty easy once you realize you can dodge all his attacks and just hide in the corner from his breaths. The hard part is the tiny platform the give you.

I did not realize there was a 100% physical and fire shield. Goddamn.

Tonight I realized one of the most satisfying parts of being a Sunbro.

Was running the Sinner a few times in NG+, because I got my poo poo stomped at first. Eventually, a dude hosts and we smoke em together. Then I see the same guy Sunbroing in the next group I join.

Maybe the dude was just grinding exp (probably so :P), but its still pretty bitchin' to think that in Sunbroing, you're actually training/initiating new Sunbros by showing em how to kill a boss. For all its "LOL DIFFICULTY YALL THIS SHITS HARDCORE" stuff Dark Souls gets, its sort of nice to think about the ways players are helping each other there :)

So ive tested out if you can progress in the brotherhood of blood with just invasions. Turns out you can't! I've killed dragonrider/chariot only with this character and invaded one host for a token of spite. I'm now sitting on 60 and I still haven't gained a rank, so BoB really gain only ranks from dueling.

So to ever get Rank 3 you have to be the worlds most patient PVP savant.

If by invasions you mean red sigil then no. Cracked red eye invasions count, but separately from duels--so you need 50 of one or the other, but 20 of one and 30 of the other doesn't work. To make matters worse it's not get X kills, it's get X net kills. So if you have a 66% winrate, that 50 kill tier means that you're going to need to duel/invade 150 times. If you have a 50% winrate, you'll never advance! :toot:

Yeah, while this is probably the Age of Dark coming to an end, it does feel like the lore took a major backseat to everything else in the game. It's a bit disappointing since Dark Souls 1's environments were fantastic and told you just as much about the setting as the item descriptions did. I have no idea how any of the various portions of Drangleic mix together. I get that it's probably Lordran well into the future, but I have no real sense-of-place for a lot of the environments (with the biggest disconnect being the Earthen Peak and the Iron Keep) and I miss that. :smith:

Don't get me wrong, this is a very good game and I'm having fun, but it feels like it has more rough edges than its predecessor in a lot of ways. It feels like they've purposefully obfuscated things to make the world more "mysterious" which has only served to make it more shallow in my opinion.

Not to mention that it tries really hard to be subtle but they may as well have put up a billboard in Majula that says "WELCOME TO TOTALLY NOT LORDRAN" in my head all of the names of places are just "Not [wherever they were in DS1]" like Not Crystal Cave and Not Anor Londo

Elysiume

The transitions in DS2 are definitely more abrupt and I feel more like I'm playing a Mario-style game with clearly separated worlds than a single contiguous map. Part of it's how DS1 had maps leading to maps leading to maps in a web, but DS2 is basically laid out like a fan. Once you start on a path, you stay on that path until you've cleared it. In DS1, most of the dead-end or connector zones are small or focused.

(I couldn't find a good map) You've got things like Ash Lake, the Painted World of Ariamis, etc., but most of the map is heavily interwoven with shortcuts and side trails. But then look at DS2:

Now the majority of paths are a straight line or slightly branched. The longest chain in DS1 with no shortcuts was Izalith. In DS2, most of the game is chains. As a result, the world feels much less connected to me. They put in flexible bonfire teleporting from the getgo, and while it's a huge step forward in terms of accessibility, it has a detrimental effect on the connectedness of the world because it meant they could completely forego the heavy reliance on shortcuts from DS1.

Ps the morning star and regular mace have very similar damage stats and I went with the star. Should I switch to the mace for the scaling?

In Fashion Souls news, the Dragon Sage hood makes you look like a cyclops and it's great:

The wiki says the rat and blood covenant rings increase poison and bleed build up respectively, is this actually true? Because the wiki has some schoolyard rumor level stuff, like:

quote:

Mist-Shrouded Leader
A nearly-invisible warrior dual wielding what appear to be bleed-infused Washing Poles. It is incredibly agile and deals immense damage. If not careful, it may roll around the player and attempt a back stab. At a distance, it will throw lacerating throwing knives. Its appearance seems to be triggered by clearing the forest of Mist-Shrouded Soldiers and attacking all of the roaring trees (the trees must roar). Killing it will clear the mist in the forest, and the Mist-Shrouded Soldiers will be visible from that point forward. It is not known whether or not it drops any items, and it does not seem to respawn.

That sounds pretty made up and the comments after that all seem to imply that it's bullshit, but we've seen that the undead purgatory boss has a special Ceaseless-esque win condition for getting it to fall into the hole so who even knows.

edit: The Watcher shield has a particle effect when blocking that looks sort of like the acid splashes, what is it actually doing? Anything? Wiki doesn't mention it.

I heard the rumor about the dual-washing pole ghost guy too, which would be kinda cool if it were true, but it seems rather far-fetched.

As for the Undead Purgatory special win condition: I wish that if you actually went through the trouble to get the horse to fall into the hole, it'd come for you again later, having somehow not died.

Not that it gives away much, but you may want to spoiler the screenshot and stuff about the endboss. :ssh:

But the best way to go about it is definitely to save Throne Defender and Watcher for right before the end. Feels a lot more climactic. Too bad they aren't anywhere near Ornstein and Smough in terms of difficulty. Imagine having to fight them right before Gwyn in the first game. That would be a Dark Souls move. :getin:

It's funny how people were bitching about Dark Souls not having a hub world that lead into sections like Demon's Souls, and now people are bitching Dark Souls 2 doesn't have a seamless interconnected world like Dark Souls did.

Also I think "easiest boss" has to go to the Demon of Song, I guess maybe it was easier because I was melee, though. Attack, attack, step back, step forward, repeat.

Finished the PC version 2 days ago as my first playthrough. Having only played Dark Souls 1 on PC, the whole summoning and online component was new and exciting to me, given how broken Dark Souls PC online was (even with DSCFix, failure after failure and rarely a sign to be seen). That being said, summoning 2 or even just 1 person to help me in fights really trivialised a lot of bosses. Definitely a lot more rewarding in NG+ soloing each boss.

I really like the look of those claws, I wanna try a "Wolverine" playthrough. Am I right in thinking in order to maximise damage out put on Claws, would be to + 10 Fire imbue them, get dex to 40 (and minimum str. req) and put the rest into intelligence?
