Im guessing you are wanting to use your amp for music without your TV on?

Yep. When putting the tv in standby I lose sound as XBMC doesn't seem to pick up the new device.

Put
<fullscreen>true</fullscreen>

In your advancedsettings.xml file (if you don't have one see here: http://wiki.xbmc.org/?title=Advancedsettings.xml )

and reboot. You can access the Userdata folder where it needs to go by simply visiting the share on your network (i.e. \\192.168.0.10 if that's your OE ip address) from a Windows or Mac.

Also did you try pressing the \ key?

If you set it up for web access previously you can also fix it by connecting to the default web client (just put the OE ip in your browser) and then go to system -> system -> Video output -> Display mode -> Full screen.

You would have had to of configured XBMC to allow web access though.

I tried the advice to add fullscreen to my advanced settings file but it did not change any thing

This thread convinced me to pick up a FireTV. I am fed up with the self-built HTPC; I always have weird issues like the remote randomly stops working, XBMC minimizes for no discernible reason, stuff like that.

I read the excellent guide on the previous page (thanks for that, Ixian) but the one thing I am missing is how do I have the FireTV see my networked drives? On my HTPC I had Windows 7 mounting network drives so they showed up like a regular hard drive. I am assuming this is going to be way different for the FireTV. If it helps, the "server" housing my media is a Windows 7 machine located in another part of the house.

Looking forward to a seamless and glitch-free experience that I have not been accustomed to since the XBox 1. :shobon:

I will probably replace my AppleTV 3 with the Fire as well because the Plex hack is finicky as hell (and Apple does silent, non user-acknowledged updates that removes it) not to mention the "server" I have my media on is a slow POS and really isn't built for transcoding videos.

Knowledge is born from Curiosity.
XBMC can browse to network drives, so you can just add them as sources within XBMC.

Thank you. Come to think of it, I am not sure why I overcomplicated things and mapped all of the network drives as hard drives.

The only thing I could think of was maybe I did that so I could have access to deleting shows from within XBMC? I am fairly certain that is not possible over the regular network browsing method, right?
(Please keep in mind I am really dumb when it comes to networking so forgive my verbiage if it makes no sense).

Baby, when it's love,
if it's not rough it isn't fun.
Assuming the permissions are set up correctly for the mount, you should be able to delete straight from XBMC either way. The reason I'd do it by mapping the drives at the OS level is so you know through OS notifications if you lose access to a given share. Also, in theory, the OS implementation of the SMB protocol should (might not be, but should) be faster than the application's version, leading to better transfer speed and quality.

I don't mean like TV Shows and Movies, I get how that works and I have that sorted. I mean this option;

I mean I'd get why a stand alone video section might come in handy; some times you have non TV/Movie/Music Video videos but nothing I do gets it to just go stright to the Misc Video Folder I have set up.

I have an interesting issue that I'm hoping somebody can help with. One of my shows keeps getting added to XBMC twice. If I view the info for each of the two identical videos, one has a local path (everything is stored on the same system that I'm watching them on) and the other is a samba share path (because I have an SQL server set up on the same machine in case I ever set up a second XBMC system). From what I can tell, all other shows have a samba location, so it's just this one that also it being scraped locally. Does anybody know how this could have happened and how I could fix it? Does XBMC have an editable file of share locations, or is everything in database files?

I've had that pop up here and there over the years (I also use mySQL).

If you install phpmyadmin or some other mySQL tool you can search the video table for the show name, find the dupe you don't want, and delete it there. It's easier than it sounds.

Also make sure there isn't an .nfo file or something in the video's folder that has the path in it. There's some scanning program from years back that used to do that.

It's a leftover from the XBOX days when the library was a new concept and there was some typically dumb holy war over how everything wasn't a movie or TV show so it's stayed in. Most skins, including the default, allow you to disable it if you scan stuff in to your library, but if you have porn content that really doesn't fit in to either then there you have it.

Confusingly the default skin still (unless it's changed really recently) only allowed you add file sources from the video sub-menu, though some of the more modern skins give you an option anyway. Kind of like how the default skin doesn't have a manual "update" button for the library even though the functionality is there and virtually every other skin offers it. XBMC is an awesome project but little stuff like this reminds you that it was designed by committee, over a period of years.

Looks like your windows share question was answered; here's a couple more FireTV tips:

1. XBMC user Senaxx built a little Windows tool that automates the installation/upgrade sideload process for XBMC on the Fire - it's easy as pie. Not that the manual way is that difficult either but anyway the tool is here: http://rghost.net/54976771

2. Remember to read the Wiki instructions and *disable* Mediacodec (settings, video, acceleration, make sure to enable expert options for settings (option for that at the bottom left of the screen). Only Libstagefright works well for the FTV at the moment. If you leave it on (and it's on by default) you may run in to stuttering issues with videos.

Some users simply turn off all hardware acceleration and use software only - apparently the CPU in the Fire is good enough for all but the hightest bitrate content.

3. Pay attention to this guy on the XBMC forums as well: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=191109&pid=1700182#pid1700182

He created an official Amazon store app that will launch sideloaded XBMC. Yes, this means you'll get a nice "Media Center" button on your home screen (I don't know if he used the official XBMC icon or not). It's pending approval - fingers crossed that they accept it.

Finally, don't forget the FireTV extra settings remote guide. http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Alternative_keymaps_for_Fire_TV_remote

I can't emphasize enough how much more convenient this makes using the AFTV remote with XBMC.

It's changed, you aren't supposed to mix the versions with MySQL.

If you run both by accident you'll see some weird results (updates that take forever, etc) sooner or later.

You won't get weird results, the databases will split.
The new xbmc instance will create new DBs with a higher version number and new schema e.g. MyVideos## and import the data on first load. The old instance will keep using the old DB.
