Tempted to go back to Windows Phone 8. Podcast app is horrible, doesn't keep place, doesn't DL episodes anymore automatically. Xbox Music works.... 30% of the time? 100% of my music is cloud based. I get "No network detected" or "you don't own rights to this song" most the time. I'm in the car 12 hours a week for work, so I need my music and podcasts Also I wish they'd fix the 1520 screen FREAKING out when you unlock it and typing 100 characters with 1 button press, or not being able to slide the loving unlock screen up until you hit the lock button again. If these bugs were once in a blue moon, fine, but when it's 10 times a day? Really frustrating

Ouch, yeah, always infuriating when things don't work properly. If reverting is even possible it seems a solid choice, there will no doubt be patches, but there is little reason to suffer until then. In minor better news: Cybernetic Vermin posted:In other weird regressions, the gallery app used to have a "Save to Skydrive" function in its tray, which no longer exists, and you can't share to Skydrive, and the Skydrive (or Onedrive throughout really) app only allows you to select single pictures. So my usual approach of using the lower-quality auto-upload and sending up better pictures as needed no longer works, and it appears that there is not really at the moment any good way to get full quality photos off the phone conveniently at all without syncing it or going to some other cloud storage vendor. Fixed, latest version of onedrive sets itself up as a target for sharing multiple files

Even your start screen gets restored, might be worth a shot. I recall the same issues with the podcast app but for some reason it started working fine later. I don't recall doing anything to fix it. In terms of Xbox music, make sure you aren't at your four device limit. It doesn't necessarily tell you this, it just gives you download issues. On another note, I wonder how/if restore works if you revert to WP8. It might say something like "Nope your backup was made in a newer version of WP, you are screwed".

Of course I have internet access and can browse the web, but Cortana won't work until I cycle airplane mode. This is about 50% of the time when I try to play a song. Is XBM app supposed to be getting another update this week? I mean originally the plan was May 6 (or "the week of <tuesday date>," which is not how any countries describe weeks as far as I know), but users and news sites haven't said anything since the first update. I guess the first update fixed 99% of their complaints? Also wondering if Podcasts app will ever get an update. It's been pretty quiet about this app, though I'm seeing other people have that "background downloading" issue that I have. Also super curious about the Extras + Info update from Nokia that just dropped. WPCentral is the worst about reporting non-news, so I have no idea what this update added/changed. "Hey gang, an update for <app> was released today. There are no release notes in the app store (which you could read yourselves), so we'll just presume there were minor bug fixes and performance improvements."

My 920 running Lumia Black on AT&T has decided that from about 5 PM to 8 PM, it will not retrieve mail from my company's Exchange servers. We're on Office 365, and even if I tap the round arrows to force a sync, it just says "Syncing . . . " for a bit and then finishes without actually retrieving the mail. Anyone have this problem before?

Well Xbox music got updated to add fine scrubbing and other small improvements. I'm annoyed though that when scrolling through my music quickly, I still get to a point where it needs to catch up and fill in the artists and songs. I find this more annoying that anything. The old music hub which is still accessible ( http://www.wpcentral.com/bring-back-old-Xbox-Music-Windows-Phone-81) doesn't have this problem. Does anyone with more programming knowledge know why this is?

What's Xbox Music like when roaming? I know it can cache music offline, but does it play without a data connection? In Android and Play Music All Access, I pin my playlists and the music in it is available all the time, without a data connection to check licenses (up to a certain point, I suppose).

Been listening to some audiobooks on xbox music and noticed it doesn't deal very well with albums that have a lot of tracks. It just ends and I have to go into the app and manually select the next track so that it keeps playing. Super annoying. Hopefully an update fixes it soon. Must be tied up to what ever bug that doesn't load all the tracks in an album view and you have to keep scrolling down for them to appear.

It's so bad I ended up flashing WP8 on it. I drive A LOT, so my phone is primarily used for podcasts/music. All my music is in Xbox Music Cloud. If anyone cares to read my rant, some of my issues I had:
Sometimes I'd get the old music view (yay), sometimes not. Very weird and unstable. I'd pin an album to start screen from Xbox music, and sometimes it'd play 5 tracks, sometimes 15 SLOOOOOOOOOOWEST music app I've ever used in my life I miss being able to easily control music while driving with a swipe Podcasts never downloaded over wifi for me Podcasts never kept their place, which defeats the purpose of the app Podcasts that used to have the show's artwork didn't have album art anymore, so I'd get an ugly tile Sometimes I'd double tap the rewind to go back and it would rewing, sometimes it would take me back to start. Inconsistent Phone would get so hot I would have to take it out of my pocket. It was incredibly uncomfortable in my pocket. THAT'S how hot my phone would get on a regular basis. IN AIRPLANE MODE Can barely make it through the day with very light/casual usage on a 3400mah battery. Ridiculous Camera app would randomly open. Even when the phone is just sitting on a table not being touched. I managed to take something like 1.5gb of photos while it was in my pocket one night All in all, I'll eagerly updated to 8.1 when it comes out officially, but I don't think I'll do a preview again. I guess I expected a little more.

I'm going to be in New York City this Friday and Saturday for //Publish/, a Microsoft run event for getting apps into the Windows Phone and Windows 8 stores. I'm not sure what app I'll actually be working on though. I was doing some massive refactoring work on Awful Forums Reader over the weekend, so I should be able to get the Windows Phone version submitted during the event. I also have a universal version of CrouMetro I'm building, but I have a feeling few people there are going to care about a Japanese social networking app. Eh, I'll figure it out . Picked up a Lumia Icon for my Mom on Mothers Day to replace the aging yet still going Trophy. In the store I got it setup with 8.1 and every app and setting I could see her using. We will see how she likes it, and I definitely need to get a case/protector on it since it feels great, but is drat slick and feels easy to drop. Haven't messed with the default music app yet as I have yet to apply the 1year Xbox Music pass to her account yet, but the Nokia Music Mix app is pretty slick and has been pulling up some good songs based on the artist she picked. Overall it is one hell of a device and the camera is as fantastic as I expected. Even she can finally take some stable beautiful pics (the 5Mp on the Trophy was showing its age when new). I will be keeping an eye on the battery life usage. I did a hard reset right after installing the 8.1 update just to make sure it was as clean of an install as possible. They were pushing for me to jump ship from Sprint but they couldn't throw me any plan near the price I pay, and even with Sprint lovely 3G in my area (and the potential of being throttled as a top 5% er which I more than likely will be), I still was able to pull down 5G of data last month which would throw me way over the 2G plan they were trying to push me onto... (My phone usually hovering around .1-.4mbit the entire time.. and I was not Tethering.) But the 10Mbit LTE was nice. Now why in the hell can broadband companies be just a little less evil, and make it unlimited data capped at say 3-5Mbit speeds? What the hell is useful about anything faster on a phone especially when you can only use say a 10mbit connection (fully utilized) for about 34minutes before blowing through your 2G Monthly cap? I guess it comes down to pure money making, but man talk about putting a huge roadblock on the internet and there is no end in sight for us in the US (and even worse for Canada I hear). Funny how even stuck with 1.5Mbit DSL at my home, I still pulled down nearly 100G in the last week running a Steam reinstall on my laptop.

Thinking that I might get a Lumia 1020 as I like the notion of a good camera on me at all times. I've got a mac, though, and am a little leery of interoperability problems from past Android and Blackberry handsets. Is it much of a problem swapping things between WP8 and Mac OS X? I've got a gmail account, calendar and contacts and wouldn't really be putting music on the phone, just taking photos and videos off it. Files will go through Evernote or Onedrive, but I don't think I want to sync HD video and 41 megapixel photos over Bluetooth or any other wireless connection.
