Correct. He was also 'burned' during a Deus Vult operation. Also, the person running that op was Alan Parker, and if you build up Marburg's dossier to 100% and don't kill him in Rome, in the end game you can spill the beans about how Parker was the one that burned him, and get treated to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttNh2j-sZVE

Alternatively (marburg/other character endgame spoilers) inform Parker that Marburg tried to/succeeded at killing his daughter, and Parker'll attack Marburg.

You can't get him to work with you, but if he respects you enough, you can get a fun ending where Leland's all "Help, Thorton's about to kill me, do something!" and Marburg will just go "Nah." and walk away.

Taunting Albatross isn't because Albatross deserves it, it's because Mike's deliberately baiting him to attack, because for rear end in a top hat-Mike, there's no other way to get Albatross to show up.

It's too bad there isn't a version of the game where Albatross is on the boat at the end, possibly offering you a job with G22. A man can dream!

I would have loved (and based on some bits of dialogue I'm sure they were planning) an option for Albatross to be the final boss. How rad would it have been to have Leland cornered, all ready to finish him off, then a G22 sniper picks him off, a team of the nightvision goons swoop in and Albatross is all AGENT THORTON PREPARE TO DIE

This would also be interesting. However he doesn't really come off as a guy with a villainous agenda. The only thing we can tell about G22 is that they've got a vested interest in keeping the world as stable as possible, because that makes it easier to predict what will happen next.

Of course, making Albatross the final boss if you've severely pissed him off would be fine though!

G22 are definitely my favorite part of the game. Something about them is just so cool to me, and it's not just that they get the most badass uniforms in the game. They're basically what AP claim to be, but even cooler.

You know, with how bereft of ideas and obsessed with remakes/pointless sequels to games released decades ago, there IS a small chance that Alpha Protocol could come back in some form. Here's hoping when it does it features a lot of G22.

Unless it's ruined by some huge company turning it into another CoD clone or something.

I struggled with that playthrough too, but it's worth noting that if you play full rear end in a top hat Leland at the end is like 'you know what? You're my kinda guy.'

This is not entirely correct. I believe reputation also factors into it - you may need to get the perk where he respects you. This is one of the few things I've never managed to achieve, despite completing the steps you've mentioned twice. It could be because being smug is way too much fun.

Another thing in order to get Marburg to work for you is you NEED to collect all his Dossier info before the final mission starts. If you have 100% of his Dossier information and he also likes you a lot, he'll side with you in the end. Otherwise you're poo poo out of luck.

Reading this thread made me decide to reinstall the game; and ran into a technical issue. I finally managed to fix it, but here's a brief post if other people ran into this: the gamersgate version uses the european patch. Not the north-american patch. So be sure to use the correct one. Next, go to the Alpha protocol/binaries folder, right-click on APGame.exe, and change the compatibility to windows xp service pack 2. That's what fixed it for me.

OS is windows 7 (x64).

I continue to be amazed at the reactivity of this game. When I was searching on youtube for the video I posted earlier, there are two different speeches depending on if you have all the dossiers or not.

Bear in mind this is a difficult-to-get event in the first place, and they still took the time to make two different versions based on how much your character knows. I'm pretty impressed.

You did a super job wrapping things up! And I'm not just saying that because I have to!
In the run I just wrapped up a bunch of stuff happened and I'm not really sure why.
At Marburg's mansion I didn't have enough points in Sabotage to turn off the alarms so I walked out into the garden at the end to be greeted by a... helicopter. I had to fight a helicopter with my assault rifle.
Then right at the end I sided with Leland and Mike made a big speech to Leland about how he'd be running Halbech within a year and might use Alpha Protocol himself. I think I've heard that before but I've no idea what makes the dialogue in that bit change. Most commonly used stance maybe?
Then finally I betrayed Leland and Mike and Mina sailed off into the sunset trading good-natured barbs about how she didn't save his rear end, she just provided a running commentary. I think that was triggered by my rep with her being mild (she liked me but not enough to meet in person). It was a good conversation, really nailed the "end of action movie" feel.

I have a problem that makes this game unplayable:

in the three tests at the beginning of the game, in the test where you talk to the ... man, I think... you have to climb a ladder, hack something, then walk through tracking beams and then do a silent takedown on some guy?

Every time I do the silent takedown on that one guy, I get a crash to desktop. I tried tons of things but couldn't even see anyone else with this same error, post anything about it online. This sucks because last computer I built couldn't even start the game (computer was technically well above specs but it crashed to desktop on startup) and now that I've built another computer which is super well above specs it still can't play the god damned game which everyone says is such a great game. Anyone got anything for me? I tried verifying local files, then reinstalling the game and still got the same problem.

edit: last pc was core i7 920 with 2x radeon 4890's, this pc is some haswell desktop chip with an nvidia 770 or someting. both pc's had/have enough ram. Currently running windows 7.

It's a pretty standard Unreal engine game, it shouldn't be that demanding. For the usual suspects, try the .ini settings in the OP, make sure your sound drivers are up to date. Check your Windows event log right after a crash to see what error message it gives. You can also skip that tutorial entirely (don't go into that room) and keep playing and see if you continue crashing.

I've run into a small issue. I'm trying to piss off westridge as much as I can. During the Intercept Nasri mission, he should give a -1 if you alert the guards. However, I've picked the "chrismas trees" dialogue option and didn't get an opinion penalty. More than that, when I disable/kill the guards I get a +1. Is there a way to use the mission introduction to get him to -3 or -4 (opinion from tutorial & SaudiArabia tv dialogue currently gives me -2)?

another item: end game news voiceover. Does killing Nasri give a different ending for Saudi Arabia than capturing the prick?
