Every generation has people who give a gently caress and shitbirds. The proportion of each is likely the same through the years, and circumstances dictate more how things play out.

A bunch of semi-idealistic boomers went into public service in the late 60s-70s who are now all retiring/retired, and instead of the next generation of kids forsaking private sector riches to make a difference, those jobs are largely getting piled onto existing workers' duties. Yet all we'll likely ever hear about is how a smaller proportion of millennials are going to work in government compared to their parents.

I suspect it is because New Public Management is/was kind of a crock of poo poo. Attitudes towards government as well (which is what spawned the movement in the first place) but the basic NPM philosophy is poison.

It's very telling how the Cherokee were treated. They adopted (readily, without pressure) all the trappings of western civilization, and yet the second they got in the way of white settlers they were forcibly removed. I'm not exactly clear on the legal history, but wasn't it the case that a series of court cases against Georgia, including Worcester v. Georgia, made tribal sovereignty clear, yet Indian removal continued? Does anyone have any good articles or books on that? (my remembering may be off too).

I dunno, considering Deb's views on race the local lege would keep out Walmart because they might employ those of the darker hue.

There is one on third street. This is on 8th. If memory serves that's a 20 minute walk for a fatty like me. :eng99:

The buildings behind it are former dorms for Indiana State University Students, which eventually became the College of Education and Tech (from left to right). Last I heard, They are planned for demolition since the college's moved to much better facilities on campus and the buildings are going to poo poo. I worry though that the house will be targeted by an asshat who thinks the land could be to better use or damaged inadvertently during the demolition.

The 'official' ginger beer is Gosling's own ginger beer. It's good stuff, but 1/3 the cost of a bottle of Gosling's, which is almost too much to pay for ginger beer.

Also I don't add lime juice to mine but I might juice this lime tomorrow for one...not sure it needs it though.

Basically.

I'm rather optimistic but that's probably because I teach ethics and tell young, impressionable college students all kinds of things about America that shock them and hopefully make them think about how the world actually is and how to change it so that it's more in line with their actual moral values.

It's me, I'm the liberal college instructor they warned you about.

What? It is! That sort of talk risks affecting people in a very destructive manner. I'm not saying that any of you, personally, are going to make people abuse alcohol, but singular affirmations like these can make some contribution.

There's a reason people are going out of their way to tell the guy who was talking about killing himself that he should get help.
