What I find worrying about budgetary problems limiting or altogether stopping new employment is that the minimum requirements are fairly strict. Unless you meet the minimum reqs they will simply not consider you, which is somewhat in contrast to the private sector where such requirements are more loose. When combined with the reduction or elimination of new hires this has the effect of barring people from gaining the requisite experience for long stretches of time, which further contributes to greying. Even if we had tons of funds to throw around it would take a while for this to be corrected.

Edit: I should note that internships can only contribute so much, but they do help tremendously

That is why I was looking at a deferment. Isn't it five graduate credits a semester to avoid repayment? I should find the financial aid thread again, that thing was really informative.
Essentially, I can't pay out much if any money over the summer before grad school begins in the fall. I've been looking for a job, but there are no real jobs in my state, they are all sales or retail. Imagine the most broken economic model you could, that is Idaho. I'm stuck working part time because my employer is a loving greedy corporation. I've worked for them for 16 years, but they can't find me 40 hours. They want flexibility, but I refuse to work outside of my schedule, because if you can't schedule me, then gently caress off. I have a bad attitude, but I if they want me to work they shouldn't ask me to stay when I am getting ready to clock off, they should schedule me. Amazingly enough, I'm not the only one with this attitude, they have a ton of part time people now, but no one will come in on their day off or stay late. Imagine that, people don't like being hosed with. Who knew.

Even if Republican operatives run out of Benghazi steam, they won't, they're planning on making sure no matter what data between now and November arrives. The magic number is <1% GDP growth.

Benghazi gets the base out, because Democrats are heartless liberals who like when soldiers or rather those we'd like to claim are soldiers die overseas serving, because

Their economic messaging isn't even required, because everyday living under this corrupt AFRICAN man is a bad day in America.

Are we seeing any messaging from the Democrats over the Republican obstruction to the minimum wage bill that died in the Senate? I'm sure the answer is "no, none" but I'm hoping for something. It seems like such a loving easy target that the Democrats can hammer Republicans on through 2016 while they're concerned with further cutting the social safety net.

Because frankly I can't think of a more direct "get hosed" to the voting poor than blocking a minimum wage increase. We're long overdue for one. It's increasingly difficult for me to wrap my brain around how anyone who isn't making six figures a year could vote R on any ticket.

Reading your posts is painful. I don't even know what you are trying to say.

Are you trying to say there will be less than 1% growth of GDP this year, and that the GOP will just repeat that over and over?

Do you honestly believe Benghazi is a winning strategy when it didn't even work in the 2012 elections?

No. I'm saying that's what they're doing in internet comments and opinion sites that they all read. They're full of it, and yet they're still going to take the Senate. This is not at all a controversial opinion.

Hey Fried Chicken et all:

I wanted to email/PM you about this, as I didn't want to derail this thread.

What I'm thinking is it would be cool if we could turn this thread/OP into a standalone website, building it out into a full wiki-like manifesto.

The goal is we'll have an article/topic for everything that's hosed up from A-Z. Initially, most categories probably won't warrant separate sub-topic pages. But as we build out, learn more regarding a topic, have time, etc. we'll set up separate sub-topics on the fly. Meaning, content will be added organically.

For each thing that's hosed, we can optionally try to offer "solutions." Solutions could be methods to cope, make difference (albeit probably a small one), talking point responses to quash bullshit, etc.

We could also integrate a comments section for each article/topic.

Fried Chicken:
1. What's the email tied to your SA account?
2. Would you be interested in being a primary author on the site?
3. Once it's up and running, the site could be linked in your monthly US threads, possibly cutting down on the effort posting required. BTW -- I'm a huge fan of these threads.

Goons:
1. Is anyone against this?
2. You guys say some pretty funny/insightful poo poo sometimes. Would you mind if I stole stuff I see here and add it to the site where appropriate?

Other stuff:
- Content should be concise, informative, and hopefully brash/acerbic/darkly humorous.
- I can foot the bill for stuff, at least initially. Maybe down the road, if it becomes a drain on my wallet, we'll implement a donation chute.
- I'll look into what content management system will best facilitate this.
- Working with a friend, I should be able to handle most of initial set up, graphics, and coding work.
- I want to keep the team small, at least initially.

You should probably wait until the election gets closer before they start hammering that. Even though most Americans believe that a minimum wage hike is a good thing, and it's probably going to happen sooner rather than later, the Serious People are probably wringing their hands about it and will discourage any Democrat in a district or state that'll probably be close from running on it, even though it's a winning issue.

2012 was a Presidential Election year, 2014 is a mid-term. Just because something failed to work in the former doesn't mean it can't work in the latter, because that relatively small but crazy group that is the Republican base will constitute a much larger percentage of the people who bother voting in the mid-term.
