My girlfriend was laughing incredibly hard at the TV one day. I asked what was up, and she had paused a kids show on Nickelodeon (found out later it was How to Be Indie) during the credits. One of the producers name was Butt Wrong. Butt Wrong. Their name was Butt Wrong.

Is it bad that How to Be Indie is exactly as terrible of a name as Butt Wrong? Except with TV shows?

Wow, that's right up there with the infamous producer you'll occasionally see in the credits for Law and Order by the name of Speed Weed.

"Lucrece" posted:I've also spoken to someone with the surname "Chrzaszcz" which I still have issues pronouncing. Long ago I worked as a cashier, and we were required to thank customers by name if they used a credit card or check. I surprised one customer by pronouncing "Szymczyk" right. I sort of cheated because over a decade earlier he had an advertisement for his pharmacy in the paper with the pronunciation next to it. It helped me later when I had a friend whose surname is Szetela. Years later I met a man from Poland whose 3 daughters had moved to the area. His name in our letters was Chojnacki. He said the alphabet had changed so his name had been spelled 3 ways in Poland and now 1 more in our alphabet. He said I pronounced it closer than anyone else. Sort of proud of myself!

One of the producers name was I don't know about those specific cases (Butt Wrong and Speed Weed) but some people involved in production of shows are credited under different names than their actual names because of the rules of their union. I don't know about the Producers Guild, but the Writers Guild apparently requires that no two members be credited under exactly the same name. That's why David Samuel Cohen, best known as a writer for the Simpsons and Futurama, is credited as David X. Cohen; there was already a David S. Cohen in the Guild when he joined. Presumably he could have chosen a name like Farts McButtface if he wanted to.

That is interesting though, I didn't know that! CJacobs has a new favorite as of 04:42 on May 1, 2014 |

With regards to Mary, merry and marry, that's pretty much every single portion of the contiguous United States with the exception of the New England. My friend from Massachusetts pronounces them differently but it's still kinda strange to my Midwestern tongue.

I have never heard Murray pronounced the same as the other three, which I've always heard pronounced pretty much exactly the same. The first three are said like "mare-ee" and the last like "myrrh-ee." Is this different in other places?

I'm from New England, and Mary and Murray are pronounced the same as you say them, but merry is with an "eh" sound and marry with an "a" like in "cat", if that makes sense.

I don't know how it's spelt but there was a kid who's name sounded like Drugpal. Also John Johnson who's whole male side of the family had the same name, so they changed their first names and he chose Clyde and my favourite Piedad.

A few weeks ago, I processed paperwork for someone called Rut. A rather unfortunate name here because it's pronounced 'root' (which here in Australia means 'gently caress'), but still, a fairly common girl's name in quite a few countries. Today, I met Rut. Rut is a man, and pronounces his name 'rutt', like the verb.
