If they don't have your corner push the ad banner into your head if you play as BJ Penn, I'm not even getting this from the bargain bin.

I can't find the gif of it at the moment, but it was the 2nd Edgar fight and the moment that confirmed he had no hop of victory.

It's just voice direction, and something you'd imagine he'd have told the audio director himself if he'd given a gently caress.

You can turn on any of the UFC events Buffer was at and at the main event Buffer is always hyped as hell for it. I'm sure it's impossible to get the same feeling as announcing a real title fight when you're in the recording booth, but no one asked him to pretend that he is either and because you're so used to it, it just seems poo poo.

If EA has access to the raw audio of UFC events, they could easily splice up all the Buffer intros from that.

Maybe? I'm not sure I'd even say that.
Johny cuts a ridiculous amount of weight, but he's had issues making the weight before. Weidman struggled to make weight for the Maia fight he took on ten days notice. Are you better at cutting weight if you do it right every time if you're allowed a full camp, or if you cut 40 pounds to make 170 because you're built like a gorilla?

Bruce Lee would probably die if he fought someone at any weight in modern MMA, but he did get up to about 170-180lbs in real life at one point, but slimmed down a bit because the bulk was slowing him down.

If I was guessing I'd say he was that size for "Return of the Dragon," the movie where he fights Chuck Norris. There's a long scene in it that consists of nothing but Bruce Lee flexing on a balcony, frighteningly swole.

Those numbers are obviously nonsense but at some level I kinda wonder how they arrived at them. Like, why do Hendricks and Velasquez have such high submission ratings? Johny has one career submission, a d'arce on some nobody in his third pro fight back in Oklahoma. Cain has never tapped anybody and in fact I can't think of a single time he's ever even attempted a submission, because he's always so busy beating guys into paste. Maybe it's a game mechanics thing, where the submission score is a generic number that incorporates both offense and defense and they have to give Cain a high score to stop him getting triangled by Frank Mir in every multiplayer bout.

I'm also wondering if the numbers are absolute and intended for comparison across weight classes or just supposed to reflect a fighter's position within their own division. If it's the latter then it would explain why totally dominant champions like Rousey and Jones have inflated scores while champs in more competitive divisions like Weidman, Hendricks, and Pettis are lower. Even with that, though... Ronda Rousey 97 striking. drat.

I thought this at first too. Doesn't explain why Weidman isn't higher because I don't see anyone at middle weight anywhere near his ability.

I was also going to buy a PS4 to play this, but now I'm definitely holding out for the demo. These overall ratings might turn out to not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it makes it seem like these 10 fighters have no areas where less well-rounded specialists would be able to eek out a victory.

In UFC 3, every weight class above 155 had characters that felt extremely unbalanced to fight against, but even then, you could at least take Jon Jones out of his element by putting him on his back. Seems like that might not be the case against guys like Hendricks and Jones this time around, which is a bummer.

Weidman may have shattered Anderson Silva's undefeated streak with a stunning left hook and all but evaded every punch thrown at him in both fights by one of the greatest MMA strikers to ever grace the sport, but talk to me when he stops someone with the calibre of Sara McMann in just under two minutes.

To add more confusion to Rousey's rating, they have her as a better striker statistically than a grappler.

The real dumb thing about Rousey's striking rating is even if you compare it to other women in her division, giving her a score in the mid 80s would still be very generous.

If this were true, he'd have a 97+ striking stat in EA UFC!

In all fairness to Rousey, the McMann KO was cool, but as Seltzer says, Rousey was getting hit consistently by Tate and the fight was pretty competitive before Tate decided to use the worst gameplan of all time and take Rousey down. She's not good at striking by any standard in professional MMA.

I feel like there's a pretty good chance it'll actually be a little worse than UFC 3. It will most definitely have less features. At this point I'm just hoping they learned from EA MMA's mistakes and tightened their physics up considerably so it actually feels satisfying, because the no-weight feel was the worst thing about it.

Also, have some lovely cellphone footage of the game that will show you what it will actually look like when people play it:
