I haven't done the "Scimitar looks like poo poo" rant in a while. I just don't get how Cryptic are happy to make some 3-packs like the Vestas and the Dyson Science Destroyers have three different profiles, but for the Scimitar you've got ugly, ugly and ugly with holes in the wings. How did they not take the opportunity to make at least one of the ships feel more like it belongs to the Romulan Republic? Why is the wing opening animation reserved for the pissweak Thalaron pulse? In an ideal world, the Falchion class would look like a bigger Valdore with a thicker main hull and downswept wings. Instead, half the Romulan player base are running around in weapons of mass destruction.

Really, it's something where a greater variety in textures would have gone a lot way even if they couldn't do much with the overall design. The veteran skin actually looks pretty good on it, with the glowing parts and other details showing off the form of the ship better than the greebled mess, but even there it just doesn't look near as good as the same texture on an Ar'kif or D'deridex. The way Cryptic makes ship textures is that they make what's basically a "master texture" file, then designate areas of the ship where parts of those textures are applied. This is most easily seen when you slap the Reman shield on a ship... the glowing hexagon areas clearly correspond to certain colors/patterns on other textures and shields. But if you look at the wings on the Scimitar and swap between a few skins it's like Cryptic had no loving idea where and how to assign the textures. The ship-specfic ones are the only ones without cluttered or mismatched patches, and those just aren't very... exciting. Guess we can wait for the inevitably Scimitar Refit in a year or two to fix the look.

I was going to defend the Scimitar because a ten year old me would appreciate the choice of "badass" over elegance, but then I couldn't find an angle that looked good enough to convince others so there you go.   Without the Aegis, it gets a bad case of the xbox.  derpKlingon Aegis makes everything Auh-May-Zing. I don't care about crazy hull procs or numbers, my poo poo is piiiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmmmmmp.

Yeah if they ever get around to that option where you can earn shield graphics and use them all the time when running other shields, it's just gonna be Aegis on half the ships in the game.

Pretty dumb that shields change the way your hull looks. They should just move armor to a separate hull slot and base things off of that. Maybe add a case modding slot so you can throw some LED on that bitch.

Hello, I come from getting bored of EVE. Made a Vulcan Science Officer because gently caress the police, I wanna play a loving Vulcan. Currently only Lieutenant 4, and flying this PoS but already enjoying this game immensely. Edit Should I bother hunting down anomalies while leveling and poo poo? Anomalies are pretty much garbage, crafting was a half baked idea from the start of the game that is long past due for an overhaul. Hold on to the particle traces though, the rare materials with names like Dekyon Particle Trace or Anyon Particle trace (though not the common ones that are just named Particle Trace), those can be used to power up a rare item that has a decent resale value on the exchange once it's charged.

Okay, is the mission Diplomatic Orders bugged? I got absolutely stomped by a ship with basically impenetrable shields, even when I was shooting down all the proton torpedos, and after the reinforcements arrived. Without me shooting too, they can't even overcome his hull regen with what little bleedthrough they've got, and with my help, I got wrecked. I haven't had any issue with playing on Advanced up until now, so I'm wondering what the gently caress is going on here. Don't play on anything except normal while leveling. The rewards increase for bumping it up is negligible and higher difficulties are more annoying bullshit than actual fun challenge.
