Hairy (or "natural") is a huge fetish that is actually not over-saturated. I think the reason why more women in the industry don't do it (and why it remains fetish) is because "commercially preferred" standard is bald.

I would assume that women who are looking to see porn where the woman is legitimately enjoying herself are aware of the fact that shaving completely will not enhance pleasure. So yeah, I can see it being more of a thing in 'real' lesbian porn, even though there are still lesbians who want to see completely shaved.

If you watch enough sports, you do learn a thing or two. Also, you don't need to play sports to figure out what does and doesn't work. See: Sabermetrics.

That seems like a fair point. However:

David Grabiner in The Sabermetric Manifesto posted:

Bill James defined sabermetrics as "the search for objective knowledge about baseball." Thus, sabermetrics attempts to answer objective questions about baseball, such as "which player on the Red Sox contributed the most to the team's offense?" or "How many home runs will Ken Griffey hit next year?" It cannot deal with the subjective judgments which are also important to the game, such as "Who is your favorite player?" or "That was a great game."

There are no doubt very interesting statistics to be learned, like, say, what proportion of female porn viewers are aware of James Deen over Nacho Vidal or the gender and/or orientation breakdown of viewers of lesbian porn. But, this also suggests that Sabermetrics is not equipped to handle discussions attempting to define "lesbian" porn.

I don't get this statement. Women have hands. And whether or not they're lesbians doesn't mean that they don't use toys for penetration. Also, lesbian femdom.

What I think he's saying is that lesbian sex for straight women is essentially the same as straight sex with no penis so it's natural and normal whereas a guy who is doing gay for pay is doing something that probably less straight men engage in (counting pegging / buttplugs and assplay even though pegging and getting anally hosed by another dude is very different from that).

I'm not a straight woman, but I'm going to assume that most heterosexual women find the idea of eating another woman's pussy fairly unpleasant, and remarkably different from having sex with a man. More different, really, than being hosed by a man in the rear end compared to being hosed by a woman in the rear end.

I think that you have to consider that from a performing standpoint "work sex" is different than "personal life sex". Performers do things all the time that they might consider to be unpleasant in real life but do while working (hopefully within boundaries). I don't like dirty talk in real life but when I'm on cam I'm a dirty talk pro. I don't like gagging on a dick IRL but while working I'll gag on a toy etc. Further, I consider myself mostly straight (I don't seek out women to have sex with) but have had sex with women while working. I wouldn't even begin to describe it as "fairly unpleasant" even though it's not something I enjoyed enough to pursue outside of work.

The point I was trying to make is that lesbian sex is eating pussy, fingering, and maybe strap-on (in porn), and none of those things are really all that different than foreplay / sex with a man - other than the fact that a woman is doing it. Things might be faked (including enjoyment) but there's a really big separation between the two.

Ultimately it's up to the performer to decide what she does and doesn't do, and with who, so if an actress finds eating pussy to be repulsive she hopefully won't seek out lesbian work. Performance for work is much different than "what I do and enjoy doing in my personal sex life".

You've got great points here. I'll add a few things I heard at university about it, which may or may not be anything more than overly-intellectualized claptrap, but it at least seems to make sense. There's an element of violence to penetration, you need only look at how many slang terms for the penis relate it to a weapon of some sort ("Pork Sword" et. al.), and the historic association of men and violence (as advanced as we are culturally, we still seem to be grappling with weather or not it's OK for women to be certain kinds of soldiers). This element, it was proposed, makes people more uncomfortable with male homosexual acts than with female homosexual acts. Of course this ignores the fact that some lesbian sex is penetrative; indeed the possibility of a pre-op transsexual person means that it's even possible for lesbian sex to involve an authentic penis; and that not all male homosexual acts involve penetration. Most of that is down to "people like different poo poo", but the public at large tends to have heads filled with pre-concieved notions regarding homosexuality and its practices and practitioners, so there's that.

Now I've got a plain old question... I mentioned that a pre-op transsexual, naturally, has male equipment; and since it's not my thing, I usually only see that sort of porn as thumbnail images, movie covers, and the like; I don't go digging into it, but it does seem to mostly be pairings of a man and a transsexual; (I've heard it theorized that many men fancy this sort of thing because, already owning a penis, they know how to operate it, whereas apparently vaginas make us uncomfortable or confused or something, but I *may* have heard that in a Kevin Smith film, so take it at face value) is there much market for porn featuring a natural woman and a pre-op transsexual one? Honestly I don't think I can remember ever seeing anything of the female/female sort, but, again, it's not my thing so I'm by no means any authority on transsexual persons in porn.

Just from porn browsing, there is a market for shemale/female porn. It caters to males, obviously. It's less common than shemale/shemale and shemale/male though.

Some of the women did it for the money though and others to get exposure so they could start their own site.

As I understand it a lot of insex stuff the people are roped up, the scene is shot for three or four minutes and then they are cut down due to the danger of damage. Which of course pisses some fetish people off.

In Ashley Blue's box (which is pretty hosed up to be honest, especially compared to other porn stars) she talks about how Max Hardcore was pretty much the nicest of the old school producers off-set. Could it be he just knows the market.

How much of the current stuff done is "porno" (aka women with breast augmentation, bleached hair and intense makeup, and muscular dudes with big dicks) vs. art/alt/realistic? Have you noticed shifts in what consumers seem to be asking for since you've been in the industry?

Do you think online (which probably makes it way easier to find specific fetishes) and pirated content has lead to shifts in what the industry is producing, content-wise?
