How are your shields going down? Grab the valdore console if you can't keep them up otherwise.

Usually either multiple shield debuffs (aceton beam stacked on top of shield neutralizer, for instance), or a shield debuff combined with fire from a gate or tactical cube. I'm much more able to recover from such an event in the D'deridex because there are more eng/sci options and it's just tougher overall. I wanted the D'deridex the first time around but a couple of fleetmates talked me into getting the Scim (well the Falchion version), and eventually I just couldn't loving stand the thing anymore and dropped :20bux: for the D'deridex. I routinely survive things in the DD that would have killed the Scimitar multiple times over.

Use hazard emitters like everyone else.

I do, they're just not enough. Sometimes even Hazard Emitters + Science Team + Transfer Shield Strength + Rotate Shield Frequency aren't enough. Usually TT is on cooldown when shields go down because I used it to clear assimilation.

E: Wait, it was tachyon beam, not aceton beam. I get those two mixed up.

Post your gateway for your scim. Also are you using the scim builds from the wiki? Scimdeeps works pretty drat well.

My scim is stripped and has hardly any equipment because the stuff it had that was useful is now in the DD. And it's so loving ugly I don't want to use it anyway even if I did put together a good build.

This is my DD build, it can survive just about anything in Infected or Khitomer Space Elite except the undivided attention of a gateway with no friendly support at close range. It's changed a bit since I last posted since I swapped out the disruptors for ones with a better proc (Elachi) and added more fleet components.

The Projected Singularity rules when combined with the Romulan Hyper-Plasma torpedo in the Undine Battlezone. I trap a whole swarm of Undine ships in the singularity, someone else uses Gravity Well to trap them even more, then I use BFAW and Torpedo Spread to do catastrophic damage to the whole group, followed by a singularity implosion for even more AoE damage.

Not as strong as you'd expect.
There is a reason few people use Overload-the damage of one of your beams being 500+ percent doesn't make up for the 50 weapons power drain for the shot, especially when you combine that with the power drain of the other 6 beams. Even with all the power boosts you could hope for, you'd get more raw damage just shooting regularly. Overload works better with ships with less guns.

Too many Torpedo skills.

Personally, there's no reason to have the universals as Tactical slots.

You have access to Attack Pattern Omega in the Lieutenant Commander Tactical slot, so use it.

Reverse Shield Polarity isn't foul, but most people focus on the basics first-cycling of Power to Weapons and Power To Shields, which gives more regular shield power. The cooldown of Reverse leaves it as a desperation move.

I'm going to guess that the answers to a lot of these is "situational", there are many ways I am certain the meta game has moved well beyond a time when I could be certain I knew what I was doing, couple quick questions about whats hot in boff powers these days.

APO vs. APB?

I always liked the little speed boost from APO but APB's ability to stack seems to be pushing APB as the new favorite but at the same time I think they cleared up that pets launching with buffs that helped make it so damaging.

Power to engines vs. power to shield?

In the past it was common to pair power to weapons/shields, however I've noticed power to engines talked about more. At the basic level it makes sense, avoiding hits is preferable to tanking hits.

Science Crap?

I know TSS is still the preferred sci power, hazard emitters is good because endless runs of ISE across alts is a great way to grind dil and borg love those plasma burns, polarize hull is meh, it'll break a tractor beam so will APO. Any opinions on Photonic Officer? Reduced cooldowns couldn't possibly be a bad thing but with most builds still running aux2bat (right?) your cooldown needs are already served I suppose?

Aleth

Science team is also a good option now as it doesn't conflict with tac team timers.

The other major thing APO has going for it is the invulnerability to tractors and poo poo it gives you, which is pretty drat handy.

Asimo
Sep 23, 2007

You still want to use TSS where you can simply because it's a fairly big boost to resistances. In PVE though it doesn't really matter and science team doesn't conflict with A2B, so whatever.

APO is one of the single most potent buffs in the game (bonus damage, and resistance, and defense, and movement speed, and turn speed, and snare immunity...), but... you still want to use APB instead of it in PVE since it's just so much more added damage due to the fact it debuffs the targets rather than buffs you. Escorts and other tac-heavy ships can probably handle both though.

EPTE is useless in PVE. Unless you're in a Corvette. :getin:

Not as strong as you'd expect.
My thinking is based on my own experience regarding cruisers and carriers.

If it's a choice between Omega vs Beta, I'd choose Omega.

But they don't exactly conflict as much as officer space causes the issue: Beta can be put on a Level 2 Tactical slot, where Omega requires Level 3 minimum.

It goes something like: Ensure your spread shot(Whatever that is-Beam Fire at Will or Cannon Rapid Fire) is in place. Ensure Tactical Team is in place. If you then have the capability, slot Omega. Then Beta. Cannons can then put in Rapid Fire if they want. Then Torpedo skills, if there's room. Overload can go hang.

Or a shuttle. Or a lesser-leveled ship. I don't deny this. The more weapon slots you have going, the less it's worth.

Good to have both during certain missions where the enemies do nothing but hold your ship. Specifically the old Romulan stuff and anything with the Undine.
