I've have a HTC One M8 for almost two months now and I'm still getting an issue where sometimes MMS messages don't show up at all or I have to download them manually but they fail to download regardless of whether I'm on wifi or data. It happens in group texts and single texts. It happens with texts from iphone and android devices. Two of my friends with M8's on Verizon never have this issue. I've also had this issue with my previous phone, a HTC One X. Is this an AT&T issue? If so, how can I fix it? The message apps in general is sluggish as well.

My dad used to be responsible for our family plan with 2 lines (My mother and I). I took over the account, or at least I thought I did, a year ago but according to the AT&T reps the account is still technically still tied under his name and social security number. What would be the best way to change the owner of the account to me?

What would be the best way to change the owner of the account to me? I asked about this at my local AT&T corporate store when I got a new phone in April. They told me they can do it, but they charge you an $18 (if I remember correctly) fee per phone line you're switching to a new fiscally responsible party (in this case from your dad to you, and two lines, so $36). You also have to pass the credit check or whatever they do, as if you were signing up for a new plan. I think your dad might have to be there with you to authorize the switch. In my case, I chose to leave it alone for now, although I'm an authorized user of the plan so I am supposed to be able to do everything but straight up cancel the service.

Maybe I just won't mess with it for now.

I seem to remember having a customer with this issue a couple months back. I want to say its some kind of software or firmware issue with the M8 thats specific to the AT&T version. Check your software updates to make sure you don't need to do any. It does also seem to happen at random, i've had an m8 since launch and have yet to have this problem so its not happening to everyone.

Turns out that trying to port a number in to replace your current AT&T number can't be done if you have the grandfathered unlimited data. So much for my idea of porting my cool Google Voice number as my main number. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that I basically can't do anything with the account ever if I want to keep my grandfathered plan. Oh well!

They told me it would take a few extra days because GV counts as a landline and gave me a Thursday deadline. I heard nothing/saw no change so I decided to call and ask about it today and was told that the port was "confirmed" (shown on both GV and att. com/port) but because of my grandfathered data it had not gone through and they would need to get rid of it for the port to be finalized so I said gently caress it and cancelled the port.

So is it really impossible to get a 3G Microcell for a discounted rate from AT&T? Apparently a single bar of spotty coverage at my home is "Good!" in the eyes of the reps I spoke with. But, if I want to stop getting spots of no coverage I can spend the extra $200 for the device. Call me crazy, but I figured my $3,000 a year service I pay for would give me something better at home.

For better or worse full voice coverage at a specific location (be it home or otherwise) is just not guaranteed in any of the carrier's terms of service. Any discounted or free microcell is at discretion of whomever you are working with. And right now they just slashed budgets like crazy (seems to happen every summer), so while I have seen customer care discount them or give them away, I wouldn't be surprised if they are saying no right now. Customer care is your best bet. Most company stores just won't discount them.

If I buy a Alacatel 871A prepaid phone that's not considered a smart phone because it has data capabilities right? I have an extra dumb phone line on my account and my brother is in a jam and needs a phone. Could we just pick one of those up from target or whatever and get it activated ? He just needs to text and make calls. Were paying $10 a month for the line anyway and I was just hoping to keep it that way. I just picked that one since it has a keyboard.

I just got uverse installed about a week ago. A rep stopped by our house and I was actually hoping for the service to become available so I was happy to sign up. He told me I would get a $79 discount for the first 12 months but I noticed it is not on the initial bill. Is this because it is the "first bill" or do I need to call and ask about it? I still have all the paperwork he gave me. Also, does on demand usage count toward our data cap?

I still have all the paperwork he gave me. Allow up to 3 bill cycles for discounts and promotions to kick in. Uncertain of on demand usage concern, but in all likelihood yes as it is data being pushed across network. In 5 years I've never seen a charge for "overage" on a Uverse bill. If you're doing that much data, you're probably abusing it and deserve the fee.

Its a rolling 3 month average of your monthly allowance or some poo poo. Plus, They dont give a gently caress. If you get any kind of fee for going over I would be totally shocked. They put those data caps in place as a "hey we're not going to allow major abuse", and trust me, you really would have to abuse it like crazy to get any flak about it. Hell when I was on uverse we had a couple of months we hit 800gigs +. No email, No letter, No phone call. If we would have done that every month for 6 months or something maybe an email, but still there wouldnt be any extra charges. Guess what im saying is dont worry about it.

I have ATT UVerse internet. I originally had TV as well, and they needed to hook everything up upstairs, because the downstairs living room didn't have a coaxial. So I had the main receiver in the bedroom and a wireless receiver downstairs. I've now cancelled my tv service, and I want to move the modem downstairs. There's a coaxial plug in the office room, right where the computer will be. I called U-verse tech support, who told me that it will cost me $149.00 to "send a tech" out to our place, likely to move around a cable somewhere. Is there any way I can do this on my own? I imagine it's just replugging a cable in somewhere into the house, right? Any AT&T techs here who can be my savior?

Does the coax drop work? If so, just plug the modem in, and screw the cable into the modem.

Is there any reason an AT&T Wireless customer should see a hold from U-verse (ATT UVERSE CONS SW-EVR) on his credit card statement? I'm guessing the answer is no and that I'll be needing a new credit card, but that $1 hold a month ago is the only weird thing that's popped up so far.

the posted:Nope, which is why I posted here. Is there some place outside of my house where those cables are routed? there's generally only one "in" from the outside, and then they'll be spliced inside of a gang box. Walk around the outside of your house and see if you can see the cabling, sometimes it'll be stapled to the siding (possibly painted too) other times they'll just run it along the foundation. A good bet is near where your POTS line comes in from the street. Note where that is, and pull the wall plate off inside the house, maybe you'll get lucky and see there's a 1x3 splitter just sitting in there that isn't plugged in and the non-functioning coax drop just needs to be reconnected. Otherwise your best bet is to start taking the other coax wall plates off and seeing if there is a splitter or cable that isn't plugged in. Good luck.

the posted:I have ATT UVerse internet. Do you have a network terminal in your basement or garage? Should be a white or gray box with an AT&T logo on it and is probably made by Motorola or Allcatel or something like that. Assuming you have this you have a MoCa connection as you are using coaxel. If it's a simple set up the coaxel line probably runs to a splitter or is running straight up to the connection spot that is currently in use. If you want to change the spot where it's connected in the house from the upstairs to the downstairs (this'll be easier in your basement.) Trace the coaxel from its terminal in the room you wanted to be connected to its point of termination. Since its not working I'm thinking it's not plugged in or there is no cable. If it's the former plug it in to your network terminal where the coax connection is or into the splitter if the latter I would remove the face plate in the room you want your connection in and run a coax to the room from an ont/splitter. Then plug in your modem and test your connection. May take a few minutes to reboot. Now if your network terminal is not easily accessible or you cant see or get to the wires it may be worth it to just have them move it. Also if you do not have a terminal in home (which you may not, uverse sometimes runs fiber to the neighborhood as opposed to fios which is always fiber to the premises) it may be as simple as screwing in a coax or as complicated as changing some poo poo around on a pole outside. In which case I urge you to have a professional do this. Hope this helps and I'm not just stating the obvious.

Thanks that was helpful. I went out back and what do we have here: A cable comes out from the ground and goes into that box. And then a cable comes out of that and goes into the wall: You can see here that two others are cut. Looks like another coaxial and an ethernet? I also checked the wall plate that I want to plug into, and it has a cable going... somewhere? So, what... is there a splitter somewhere in this house that all of these cables meet at?

the posted:Where the hell would that be? That enters the house at the laundry room. Theres nothing there. Would it be underneath the house by chance? It could be anywhere. The cheapest route is sticking a splitter in the cable jack closest to where the service enters the building, but it could be inside any of them. Or in the crawlspace/basement. Or attic. Or in a j-box in some utility room with a blank cover over it. Or no cover.
