I doubt it was enforced but I saw people using it as intended more often than not, usually with someone bored waiting in the car for them. Now that they don't exist, I've seen more cases of people who think putting their car in "park" is the same as "parking", near some spots but not in them, while their passenger runs in to get something. It's really loving annoying blocking an entire "lane" in a car park aisle. Usually crazy people with disgusting rape vans I don't want to get into a shouting match with.

This happened just this morning. I was sitting in line in the left turn lane waiting to get out of my neighborhood. The light turns green and as the line of cars waiting to turn left begins to move a mustang with racing stripes darts up the right turn lane passing everybody and turns left in front of the second car in line. As I pull onto the road I can see him moving from one lane to another passing everybody before disappearing into the distance as traffic stops at the next light. A mile up the road I pull onto the highway and not half a mile later who do I pass on the side of the highway because he got pulled over? It bought a smile to my face.

Then there's the people who, after passing 20 cars lined up in an exit only lane, decide to cut in at the last moment, because their exit caught them by surprise. It's not like the exit moves from day to day, it's the same place, same traffic, every single day. Learn where you need to be. Across the street from where I work, they tore down several vacant office buildings and are building a shitload of high-rise luxury apartments. It is absolutely ruining the roads due to all the heavy construction equipment. Also, it's like the wild west - construction workers' cars using the road as a parking lot up and down the entire thing, entire lanes blocked off. Obviously the police are turning a blind eye to all of this while the construction goes on which I don't really care about, it'd be impossible for them to keep the road completely legitimately free and clear until the construction is finished for as many workers as there are. Well, this morning on my way into work, right in front of my office building, I see a guy parked in some sort of massive construction vehicle. It had some weird apparatus on the back but also was carrying building materials - I have no idea what it was for. Anyway, the reason the truck was stopped was because he had been pulled over. The cop hadn't exited his vehicle yet, but it was absolutely delicious to see the "You gotta be fuckin' kidding me" look on the driver's face. He must have done something very obviously illegal to get pulled over in that area.

Do cops qualify as "these are the people you share a road with"? On my commute into work every morning, it's not uncommon to see a police officer sitting on the side of the highway looking for speeders, but there is one cop, that has an all white SS Camaro with white lettering on the side of the car that says POLICE and zero external emergency lights. One day, I saw this white camaro tailgating me in the passing lane, so when I cleared the vehicle next to me to pass, I got over to let this guy go on. When the camaro got next to me, it was the cop. He flicked his siren for a sec while pacing me and then dropped a gear and took off at a high rate of speed. I thought, wow, what a dick. I cleared the lane for faster traffic AND for an emergency vehicle. This morning, there was a cluster gently caress of cars pacing each other, cars in the passing lane refusing to get over, and semis all over the place. I'm doing about 68 into 60 in the left middle lane of a 4 lane interstate. I see a white camaro making some "too close for comfort" lane changes and I'm thinking, "wow, look at this jerk". He then proceeds to get into my lane in front of me and then into the left passing lane just in time for a line of faster moving vehicles to have to drastically slow down to 60. I get next to him and it's the camaro cop again. This time, he sort of paces me about half a car length ahead and then punches it to go up to about 75 from 60. Then he proceeds to drop back to 60 and creates a wall of cars that refuse to pass him in any lane which causes a lot of people tailgaiting and refusing to let others move through traffic or change lanes. This goes on for about 10 mins before I finally get over and exit the freeway. I hate that cop.

Had some fuckwit almost cause me to total out my brand-new (<200 miles on the odometer) company car last night. I'm in the middle lane of a three-lane highway (US224 @ I-77), some teenage girl driving an early-2000s Kia in the left lane suddenly realizes she's about to miss the 77N exit ramp just as we're passing it so she slams on her brakes and cuts across all three lanes without a turn signal right in front of me. It was pretty much textbook Family Guy asian driver except the driver wasn't Asian. At least now I know my car's braking abilites....

I was hauling rear end (average speed on i95 is 75, even though it's a 55 zone) and looked over to see a middle aged woman driving a black Charger with red racing stripes. Thought nothing of it... her lane slowed down more than mine so I ended up ahead. Got in the left lane, passed a few people, was about to get over for my exit and I see this charger behind me again. Then the lights came on Fortunately she didn't really care since I hadn't done anything truly masshole-like and was just warning me to slow down. That thing was well disguised, I didn't see a single light on it until they came on and never would have expected it to be a cop car, and I normally smell undercovers a mile away. That was back in December. Today I was towing a trailer with about 1000lbs of crap on it... coming up a four leaf clover onto another highway. I know the area, and traffic was moving pretty good on the interstate I was getting on so I was down a gear and fully on it to make sure I wouldn't make someone slam on their brakes. Then some self absorbed fuckwit realizes they're about to miss their exit, cuts RIGHT in front of me (like, maybe 6 feet between our bumpers) and slams on their brakes to avoid hitting the truck that's slowing down for the exit. Somehow, I avoided wrecking it, but they definitely got the horn and middle finger. To which they waved their arms like "what!!! I had to take my exit!!! "... yeah fuckhead, that's why you pull in BEHIND the guy who's trying to accelerate and can't stop worth a drat because he's towing. Idiot.

Indiana State Police have a ton of totally stealthed Chargers. (and a handful of Challengers) It's impossible to see the interior lights through the back window at any safe following distance, and there's no extra external antennas. Some of them don't even have the police specific license plates that the local police departments' unmarked cars always have. It means you have to slow down any time you see a current gen Charger, and there's a lot of those around here.

Not that the unmarked cars run license plates that are exempt or anything, but they will not have a license plate frame, except for maybe a plain black one. If the car has a dealer plate frame, its not a cop. That and the steel wheels. You can only get those black with small hubcap on the police models, but that only works on the police specific packages(Ford Interceptor/Tahoe/etc)

I've got the Beetle set up so that I can cruise on the highway pretty well (lower ratio 4th gear), but it doesn't matter if I'm going 75 and everyone else is going 65; the moment I come to pass anybody in the right lane they speed up, because there's obviously no way an ACVW could be passing them. I'm used to it after just two weeks of owning the thing, but that doesn't make it any less retarded. I guarantee that some of the people I go to pass have been cruising at 65 or 70 for miles carefree, but something deep down (I'd say "small dick syndrome," but ladies do it too) keeps them from allowing me to pass their slow asses. E: VVVVV Absolutely. I can see when I'm either slowly waking somebody up, or when they're in "mentally dead cruisin'"-zone and they're just speed matching the next bumper. Those happen all of the time. I can't tell you how many times I'd come off work at midnight and set my cruise to 65 on the Loop 202 in Phoenix and I'd pass somebody doing 55, they'd slowly just speed up and match my bumper. That's them not being aware, and happens all of the time. In the Beetle it's almost an aggressive "Oh gently caress no." Queen_Combat fucked around with this message at 19:14 on Jun 13, 2014 |

It's childish, but I think you're probably right. I would say you're just waking them up and making them realise they should go faster, but I bet in context you're not the only one passing them.

I get angry as gently caress when my car gets dinged and the one time I know I dinged someone's car (at work) I found who owned it through site security and went to see them, they couldn't care less but were pleased someone cared enough. It's just difficult to hold a car door not quite open fully but wide enough to get in, get a baby out of a pushchair, get them in safely and strap them in without hitting the next door. Simultaneously supervise another older kid getting in the other door, plus as load of shopping and a pushchair. Wider spaces are a godsend, I don't care where they are as long as they're safe to get to.
