I agree. Darmian and Candreva destroyed Baines down that side. And Marchisio was quite good, I love Claudio and it was nice to see.

Congrats, Italigoons. That was a good show.

Yeah I was totally wrong to not want Candreva, I'll admit that. Darmian was also excellent.

Also I'll take Sirigu for the rest of this if it comes to that.

Lovely bit of football, lads. I could honestly watch Pirlo and his magic passes all day. I think I maybe saw him make three boring passes the entire game. But good stuff from pretty much everyone... except your most of your back line which should be taken out back and shot.

Best match I saw so far, anyway.

I dont think he has to stop playing unless he picks up an injury, he looks he can keep running 12km a match well into his fourties.

When you have a Hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Best play Pirlo made all game was drawing that defender and then letting the pass go by him to Marchisio. Such a pretty goal, reminds me of why I love watching Italy play.

Whole time I was commenting to other Americans that England plays soccer like Americans do, just whoever is first to cross or have a shot on goal just takes it and hopes for the best. Ugly. Obviously want US to win but Italy just plays the game how it was meant to be played. Cheering them on all the way especially once US doesn't make it past the buzz saws of Germany and Portugal.

Buffon is still on track to play against Costa Rica, but De Sciglio will probably have to hope that we make it out of the group. That annoys me much more as he's the one that's keeping Paletta in the side.

De Rossi also is not training today, to Duro's happiness we might even see Aquilani starting vs. CR

Barzagli too. We're falling apart in the heat. Hopefully it's just precautionary, as De Rossi was the one keeping the defense intact.

Great, all of this is exactly what I wanted to hear. I don't mind Buffon returning to play, but I'd rather he's 100% and I think we can afford Sirigu vs Costa Rica

There's still plenty of time until Thursday though, so hopefully everyone returns back to form

Yeah the report is that De Rossi was feeling pain in his neck and that Barzagli had some minor tendonitis, so hopefully it'll be fine. Game's Friday by the way ;)

Everyone did a full training session today except De Sciglio, who apparently did some heavier work today with respect to yesterday. The press seems to think Prandelli wont risk him, but the others should be fine. Good news.

...and what about the kick in the groin?
It is good news. The team is getting healthier for a match we (in theory) should win.

I'm actually NOT taking off of work Friday to see the game. Not that anything should be taken for granted but like my brother said, "We have to go to work and accept we will win against Costa Rica."

That being said, I am streaming the game anyway.

Mixed bag today - De Scligio is out as we all figured, but Prandelli has apparently gotten sick enough of Paletta being poo poo that he's willing to try Abate on the right with Chiellini back in the middle and Darmian on the left. The bad news is that Thiago Motta might replace Verratti to give him some rest as apparently he was the hardest hit by the climate after the match. Costa Rica will do well to exploit the world's slowest midfield + Marchisio if that is the case.

is Verratti that much quicker than Motta? I know he has better acceleration, but I've never watched a PSG match and thought that Motta couldn't cover ground effectively. I think I'd rather have him in the team than Verratti at this point in their careers and that he's rather underrated, but I've mostly watched them at the club level.

Verratti has this move called "changing directions" that Motta lacks. He's also much less creative, though he can ping a long pass pretty well. We'll see.
