I got 99 problems but the British ain't one.
I like it's 2 piece more than the Omega 2 piece in terms of keeping a ship under 50% to keep GDF going, It's got boosted accuracy on the deflector as well, so that's always nice.

Go down fighting.

Also the undine rep poo poo is decent. I went balls out with all of it on a fleet Somraw and it's sufficient for murdering PVE. Also you get 3 activated abilities if you like those. I can't really recommend it as the set to go for but it's worth dicking about with if you have the dil to burn.

It's a KDF Romulan.

They would be amazingly overpowered, if it wasnt for the fact their hull resistances are absolute poo poo, and once they lose a shield facing a Scimitar is generally toast.

Yeah, pretty much. I threw both rep sets on my romulan's ar'kif on a lark, and it's pretty fun. Not top tier sure, but good enough and with plenty of click toy powers that don't take console slots. It's like flying a dyson ship except not poo poo.

Shame the turret-boosting clicky set ability is pretty useless in PVE though.

I don't really get all the hate on the Dyson Science Destroyers. On paper, the tactical one seems better than the Mobius and S'Golth in most respects, except perhaps for the fused DHCs and bridge officer slots.

kind of into it, really

I occasionally run the Fed tac one with the full Solanae gear set and my fleet AP cannons. It's not nearly as survivable as the Fleet HEC I normally fly, but there are some times when it feels more useful. I've got Gravity Well in the Lt. Com Sci slot and a DOFF or two with the related skill in it. When it procs right you can poo poo out a lot of damage rather quickly.

I've toyed with the ideas of running Cannon DMG+ consoles, but since I've got the Vuln Loc fleet +AP consoles I can't justify it and I'm not going to drop FC on them.

The fused gun is a pain and ultimately they're just fairly expensive decent science ships. The KDF and Rom versions are interesting mostly because of the dearth of science options for those factions. They're not terrible they're just not that great and having a $100 pack attached really doesn't help the impression. The hate is pretty irrational but hating on mediocre ships is half the fun of this game (the other half is flying them and still outperforming baddies).

Not sure what I need to do to get accepted to the space club (because I'm stupid). Also, the tutorial did tell me how to turn auto fire on, unfortunatly I ignored the command as I was getting smacked around by some ships at the time.

Also, does the wiki contain hints on basic play? Things like adjusting shields and power levels? I've gimped through some of the missions, but it sure would be easier if I could figured out how to redistribute shields, etc.

EDIT: Note that I changed my main character, the first one was a bit of an abortion.

Click on the center of the big circle on the HUD that shows your hull and shield health and it'll redistribute them evenly, click on one of the shields at the edge of that circle to divert shield strength to that side of the ship. Also, if you activate your tactical bridge officer's Tactical Team ability they'll do it for you.

Yeah once you're geared up and understand what makes a build good you can PVE in anything. That said there's no point in gimping yourself with a weak ship or gimmicky crap when you're first starting out. The main reason we fixate on the good ships is because the people who can tear up poo poo in a catbus daren't the people asking for ship recommendations.

Finally ground out enough pearls for the Risan Corvette and Cruiser. Because I don't really understand how the ship tiers work - both are viable for endgame/STFs, correct? Or are they more gimmick ships?

Yes, both are viable. The Luxury Cruiser is essentially a fleet Excelsior, trading some minor base HP for better turn and inertia(And the Excelsior is already best in it's class for turning and speed).

The Corvette I can't speak on effectively. I understand it's basically the fastest possible ship, and gets defence bonuses over and above the standard for going so fast. So what if it's paper-it should never be hit with how fast it can go, more so now Counter-Command is giving out engineering consoles with +defence. It's so fast the general escort recommendation for cannons and full-frontal assault goes out the window because you're likely to fly right past your target in half a second.

Unless you suffer from fetal alcohol syndrome or lead poisoning you can be as dumb as you like and still outclass 99% of the pub population.

Also just ask away on questions, questions mean you want to learn, which puts you far ahead of the average player in this game.

As to builds, apply your EVE experience, stick to one damage type, boost said damage type exclusively, avoid mixing beam weapons with cannon weapons, so on. Only thing you really need to get used to is all the clicky skills and that dual-tanking is a thing in this game, plus that exploding is pretty meaningless.

Regardless, the wiki has plenty of guides and you can ask us about it all in the channel.

So I am in the process of trying to put STO on another computer. I installed the Arc client, installed STO, and patched it. All appeared ok until I launched STO. I now have a black screen with the graphics cursor only, and the music chiming away.

Is there anyway to lower the graphics res without successfully launching the game? Or a safe mode or something?

Now that I have my dumb dinosaur power armor and am two days out from completing the dyson space set its pretty rough switching back to my alts with their green MKXI gear. At least the sponsorship thing cuts the rep grind in half.

Oh brave new world that hath such people in it...
You'll get enough trash purples as drops and from those boxes you get during your grind. Its not the power armor, but it works. Alternatively, do "Of Bajor" and "Facility 4028" a few times for Mk XI purple armor or "A Step Between Stars" for a combat suit. Not the best, but it gets the job done.

Yeah, the dyson EV suits are pretty okay free lvl50 armor, though I prefer energy damp armor over it. Ive got the EC to fit them out, they've just been collecting dust. I went about upgrading my KDF alt's crew last night and I had blown through the missions so quickly leveling they were still using MKIV and MKVI gear.

The main advantege of the Dyson EV is that: a) it saves you carrying armor and an EV suit around and b) if you grab one from the mission and equip it to a boff the game will let you grab another, letting you equip all of your boffs we decent armor/EV suits in one run of the mission.

FYI, for me the fix was as follows:

1. Launch launcher
2. Options -> Safe Mode
3. Once in game, select Esc, Settings (or whatever the screen is to adjust options)
4. Switch to windowed mode, and select DX9 instead of auto

I also upgraded the graphics drivers for the PC and still occasionally get video driver crashes, but the game runs on the slow PC and looks like Im running it in CGI mode.
