You shared it with a dick.

Don Jon bugged me, I really wanted to like it but in the end I couldn't. I don't think they meant it this way, but the message I got from it was "Bitches make you give up the things you love, true love makes you do it voluntarily". And of all things to let come between you and Scarlett Jerseyhansen, internet porn? Come on, at least make it about something important, like your bitchin' Chevelle.

I haven't seen it, but the write ups of it I've read make it sound like a movie about internet porn addiction by someone who has no idea what internet porn or addiction are. Confirm/deny?

Hibernator

The flick's not about addiction. He watches a lot of porn, and in a way that's kinda unhealthy, but addiction is too strong a word. I do think the way the film ends is a little problematic in the way Dobler suggests, but it didn't ruin the film for me.

I know what you did last summer, and frankly I am displeased.
Don Jon is about two immature people with unrealistic expectations trying to be in a relationship. The difference is that one of them grows up and the other doesn't. But it's easy to see how the film might come off as sexist.

After some googling, it looks like they're holding off until July 24 (comicon) for any concrete extras announcements. All they've announced so far is all 120 episodes, remastered in HD.

Ignore those people - it's still pervasively, extremely, and brutally violent.

Minimal changes (small amount of frames from two distinct scenes, amounting to about 3-4 seconds), but yes they are technically correct (the best kind of correct). The uncensored version was presented theatrically in the UK and Germany, so BDs from those territories should be uncensored (though most likely region locked).

I saw a forum user confirm that the Canadian BD was also uncensored. While most US and Canadian BDs are identical, some titles truly do have different rights holders and thus different home video releases, and this seems like one of those cases. Alliance/Momentum hold the rights in both the UK and Canada, so it makes sense that the Canadian release would be uncensored (it was uncensored theatrically there as well from my understanding).

So I bought the Mononoke import from a Hong Kong seller for around $40 (using points/gift card/etc.), and when I received it, got something much different than the green snap case from Japan. My copy is a standard blue case with no slipcover or anything.

Oddly enough, Amazon points out this item is 'Under Review': http://www.amazon.com/Princess-Mononoke-Blu-ray/dp/B00IUOCE0C/

I'm guessing you got a bootleg or the Hong Kong version isn't the same as Japanese release. I'd return it and buy it direct from Amazon.jp

I think it will - Amazon is really good about these sorts of things, so I'm not too worried.

And I initially balked at the price, too - but I don't really want to wait for a US release that might not be as nice, and the JP price is only going to go up with time.

Edit: I heard back from the seller:

quote:

Dear Red,

Firstly, apologies for the problems with the order. Thanks for pointing out the discrepancy, as I had not noticed that the Amazon images are different as I never fully inspected the listing which Amazon created (I added my listing via the EAN number). Unfortunately, it is the images that are incorrect. This BD is manufactured and distributed in Hong Kong by a company called IVL (who have distribution rights for Studio Ghibli, along with all Hong Kong version Disney/Buena Vista, Universal, Paramount releases). Their original stock photos for Princess Mononoke comes with the card slipcover as displayed by the images added by Amazon, but IVL never actually released the actual BD with a slipcover (they did do card slips for previous Ghibli releases during the first print, but all HK version Studio Ghibli BDs are now released without card slip cover). Unfortunately, it is impossible to get the card slip or solid green case version as a Hong Kong version.

The item you bought has the EAN barcode of 4891670637018 (the Hong Kong version) and has the Amazon ASIN assignation of B00IUOCE0C.
The Japanese green case version is another item with the EAN barcode of 4959241749796 and has the Amazon assignation of B00EODU3H4. The Japanese version does not have Chinese subs.

According to the listing page, Amazon is reviewing this item, probably because all the sellers, including Amazon, are selling the blue cover version that you received.

Since it is not what you wanted to receive and since the photos are incorrect, please open a return request and I will give you a full refund plus a full refund for the return shipping fee that you will incur in sending the item back.

Again, please accept my sincere apologies over the undoubted inconvenience this has caused you. Please note that only the Japan version (released by a Japanese company called Tokuma) is the only version that has the extra packaging that you require. If you have any further queries in the mean-time, please feel free to contact me. I will try my best to help you.

Best Regards,
Hin

Yeah hopefully to coincide with the theatrical release of Episode VII, they'll release these and they'll be the originals with no changes and they'll be able to sell them in a "see them as they were meant to be seen" campaign. I wouldn't hesitate one bit to buy them if that's how this played out.
